Yeah, we rarely have three of each anyway.

December
Rosewater
Ancillary Justice

Yes, definitely. I own several group books that I have yet to read, and I like to do it with others when possible.
I wish there were something we could do to increase participation. We get many new members every year, so in theory there should be plenty who would want to read past selections. I don't know how to tap into that potential, but it seems a worthy goal.

IMO, I think the VBC component has spiced this up a bit, too, so thanks to those who call in, or try to!
Next batch of rereads starting soon! Who is reading one or both of these? Anyone want to be Necromancer/Cleric of the Month, and reanimate/revive some of these threads? :)

-What is “VBC? 👀 🙏🫥
-I’m sure there is a semi annoying way (ŷ is not very user friendly imo) to find all the books that are free on KU. However, as an incredibly lazy person, is there already a KU thread? I have yet to find any of these options on KU & I’m wondering if this is on purpose? 🧐 Is KU “The Walmart of e-Books? Am I a bad person?😬🫣
Comment:
-This seems complicated and very involved, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading the last 3 pages of this thread. 😂
-Honestly, the level of thought going into the choices & options is solid! I am just like, “I have like 20 of these on my TBR & some copies. What’s my deadline? Cool where’s the thread link? Excellent! Done.
Concern:
I’ve been a deadbeat member (I blame the app) & I’m coming in hot with the side-busting. 🤭
Don’t mind me. But also, I’m nervy to jump in bc I feel like I’m creeping in on a private conversation.😳
I’m scared to read Uprooted- but ready to rip the bandaid off. 😅
I have newly discovered the mobile desktop version of GR, and that makes reviving threads easier. Will people get annoyed if I start reviving the ones I want? 😈 This is a safe space right? 😉💜
Hi Miss Garceau!
First of all, super glad to have you! You're definitely not barging in, you're invited!
KU is fine, there's a LOT of content there, some gems and of course a lot of other things that you have to comb through. No moral judgment whatsoever for participating :)
Basically, our group is structured around the idea that there is no wrong way to love reading science fiction and fantasy, and we try to accommodate all the different avenues people would like to take for their own enjoyment. Everything here is "whatever sounds fun" from official reads to the games we play. Pick and choose what feels good to you! And for sure! We call posting in older threads "necroposting" and it's HIGHLY encouraged!!
Here's a quick recap of the things our group offers:
-Members vote on polls every month for which two books they'd like to read. We have 1 fantasy book and 1 scifi added evey month, with official threads, moderated discussion and so on.
-Some members engage in buddy reads, where they go to the buddy read thread and ask if anyone wants to read [a book] with them, and if people are interested, we start up another thread for people to chat about that book together.
-We also have a virtual book club (VBC) every month where anyone who wants to join a Zoom call (audio and video completely optional!) can come talk about a book we all pick together. The options for a VBC book are either the books of the month for that month or the 2 re-reads for the month (basically like an official club buddy read system). Everyone is welcome, and we do a deep dive on whatever book members agree on :)
Hope that helps! Looking forward to seeing what interests you!

One of this month's rereads is very likely going to be the Virtual Book Club pick this month. The date is November 20th, so you have two weeks to read these books!
November 15:
Rosewater >> First impressions | Final thoughts & Series
Uprooted >> First impressions | Final thoughts
And don't forget to vote for 2023 rereads!
