Thanks

Sara, I would like to join you, Megan, and Lorraine for your buddy read of "Crossing to Safety." It's been on my TBR for years.

Paula W Well, okay then. I guess we can keep Midnight on the buddy read list. There is more interest than I originally thought. August it is!

Michaela | 386 comments Aprilleigh and I will read The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel in July. Everyone else invited too, but even if not, would you please add it to the buddy read schedule, Sara?

Lori, Terris and I were going to read it at the end of August but I don't think anyone got around to putting it as a buddy read so I may be in for July 15th If my schedule ever clears up.

Yes, I had Crossing to Safety down for August, but I think I can join the July buddy read. It should be a good "pre-discussion" before my book club reads it for our September meeting. I'm glad there is this much interest. I'm excited!

Just a note that there is a July thread for Welcome to Hard Times by E.L. Doctorow and that anyone is most welcomed to join. It has been a long while since the initial discussion of this plan to read, so I wanted to make sure the information was out there.

Sara , I would like to join this buddy read in September . Just enquiring - would it be possible to create the thread in the beginning of September itself ? I am a slow reader , so I could start in the beginning of September , while you , Lori and Carolien could join in the middle of September ? Also , since Rabbit Run is scheduled for October I am hoping to finish Blue Castle in September .

message 583: by Sam (new)

Sam | 994 comments On August 15, I am anticipating the release of Patti Hartigan's August Wilson: A Life and it prompts a desire to finish the century cycle of Wilson's plays, with titles viewable under the author's goodread site: August Wilson. I wish to start my read in September and have not decided on whether to read the plays in publication or chronological order, but want to read one or two per month. Is there interest from anyone to read along?

Sounds interesting, Sam. I have read five of the century cycle books (#1, 3, 4, 5, & 6) and am interested in reading the others -- sometime. I'm not sure (though they are short) I can fit more into my reading schedule this year. If you get a "buddy read" together I may be able to chime in or read one or two with you. Good luck and enjoy!

Following up on my earlier post, I am requesting a buddy read for an August Wilson Century Cycle Marathon starting in September with Jitney. This was August Wilson's first written and published play of the Century Cycle and a good introduction to Wilson for anyone considering joining in. Subsequent plays will follow either the written order or the chronological order depending on the will of whoever joins to read and we will read one play per month.

Great! These plays are quite short and shouldn't take much time. I am looking forward to the later impact when I've read and digested a few.

I was going to say that I wouldn't be able to join now because I'm too behind this year but I am still interested in reading it at some point.

message 599: by Sara, Old School Classics (new)

Sara (phantomswife) | 9011 comments Mod
I'm sorry, Sue, it did. I hadn't realized you weren't queried before it was taken down. The consensus was that we still want to read it, but that the timing just wasn't going to work for us, so it is tabled for a while. I'm glad that works for you, because I would feel very guilty if you had been planning it for so long and then just found it removed!
It put myself a reminder to ask again in January.

message 600: by Lori (last edited Aug 31, 2023 12:59PM) (new)

Lori Keeton | 1448 comments Sue, yes, I mentioned to Sara about not being ready for it- I can’t find a decent priced book. I believe we decided to push it to next year hopefully

Sorry Sara. I didn’t see your response. I definitely hope we can read it next year!
