Edwina Book Anaconda | 260 comments Happy New Year and Happy Reading!

I seem to have a lot of books that either start with the word A or the letter A.
I also seem to have a lot of one word title books, so ...

A - Read a book that starts with A - either the word or the letter.
1 - Read a book with a one word title.

The goal is 12 books for the year, you can do either A or 1 or both.

Challenge begins Jan. 1, 2022 and ends Dec. 31, 2022.
Come play in the stacks with me and chip away at your Mt. Toobie!

Nancy Brady (minesayn) | 160 comments I'm in, Edwina; I can't seem to ignore your challenges. I will try to accomplish both of them although I haven't a clue whether I have the books on my shelves to accomplish it.

A-Read a book that starts with A--either the word or the letter.
1-Read a book with a one word title.

The goal is 12 books for the year for each.

A-
1. A Sense of Danger by Jennifer Estep
2. A Train to Moscow by Elena Gorokhova
3. A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James
4. A Christmas Snow by Jim Stovall

1 Word title
1. Landline by Rainbow Rowell
2. Room-Maid by Sariah Wilson
3. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
4. Horse by Geraldine Brooks
5. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

Penny | 14 comments I'm in (again) and I've gone through Mt TBR and am listing these to read from longest in possession fitting the criteria, to shortest according to 'A' AND Single word titles combined:

1. Artists in Crime - Dame Ngaio Marsh [READ]
2. A Compromising Position - Carole Matthews [READ]
3. A Street Cat Named Bob - James Bowen [READ]
4. Carol - Patricia Highsmith [READ]
5. Spectacles - Sue Perkins [READ]
6. Eucalyptus - Murray Bail [ABANDONED AT PAGE 112]
7. All That I Am - Anna Funder [READ]
8. Are You Dave Gorman? - Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace [READ]
9. Dearly - Margaret Atwood [READ]
10. Agatha Raisin and the Potted Gardener - M.C. Beaton [ABANDONED AT PAGE 100]
11. Exposed - Dutchess Community College [READ]
12. Payback - Margaret Atwood [READ]
13 (or the new 6). Coraline - Neil Gaiman [READ]

I'm not sure if I'll read all of these first and then get back to trying to clear Mt TBR in a more orderly fashion, or if I'll sprinkle them throughout the year. My guess is the first option! BUT I WAS WRONG. I'm doing the sprinkle thing but in order...AND NOW THAT IS WRONG TOO. What a year...Now it is October 8th and I'm back on track again. 3 to go!
Now it is October 24th, just 1 to go for me now!

NOVEMBER 10: I'VE FINISHED!!!
Edited 21 November: Apparently my abandoned ones on the list don't count, but I have finished my reading of the ones I chose to read at the start of the year. Life is too short to keep reading bad books and I can't go looking for others right now. The fun has gone now too. Thanks.
Edited 20 December: Found another one word book, read and added it.

You might as well sign up for the Alphabet Challenge, also.
It's allowed to use the same book for more than one challenge so you will probably all 3 with one book anyway.
LOL

I've got six books to go still - one thing making it hard is having moved house and not being able to find all the ones I decided to read for this challenge. Hoping to find some more soon amongst the huge piles of boxes in my office :D

Penny,
I just noticed that you have 2 books marked as "Abandoned,"
sorry but you have to finish the books for them to be counted.

Well, then I give up. My books were pre-chosen at the start of the year when I had access to them. I've got too much stress going on in my life and poverty as well. Have fun everyone.

Edwina Book Anaconda | 260 comments The Challenge was for 12 books, and I managed to read 14.
Whoop! Whoop! That's 14 less books on Mt. Toobie.

I have 4 Challenges posted for 2023.
Come play in the stacks with me and get those books moving!

Just a reminder - please check the year of the challenge to make sure that you are signing up for the right one. I have marked all of the 2022 challenges as Closed.

Also, you may count paper books, ebooks, audiobooks, and library books. You must finish a book to count it as read.
