Ready for a new read in 2023? Need to reduce your Want-To-Read Bookshelf too?

This game is a fun way to choose your next great book. Let someone else do it for you! Here’s how to play:

1. Look at the latest message. Browse through their Want-To-Read list and select a book.
2. Reply to the message with your book choice, tell why you chose that book, and indicate you are ready for your new assignment too.
3. Check back for the next message, which should provide your book assignment.
4. Read the assigned book and repeat steps 1 to 4.

Remember, only post when you are ready for your next read. This game is a great way to find new books that you might enjoy, reduce your own TBRs, and make new GR friends too.

Ready, set, relay!

Answer: Click on their name and look in their bookshelves under "to-read". It's usually the 3rd shelf listed.

Question: Why can't other GR members see my bookshelves?
Answer: Your Account Profile is set to "private", allowing only friends to view your bookshelves. To play in this relay, you must update the setting to allow all members access.

So let's start this 2023 relay with last year's final message, from JoJo_theDoDo. Here's her request:

"For my next read please pick from my Hardback Books Shelf: /review/list... "

***Remember, don't reply unless you are ready for a new book assignment too.***

message 4: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) (Thank you for this. I'm not done with my December assignment but I look forward to participating here again this year.)

Please read Their Eyes Were Watching God next. I read this a long time ago, but its a book that I still remember pretty well and really liked. I hope you will too! (I would really like to hear what you think about it after!)

Whoever is next, I would love a book from my Want-to-read shelf :)

Lindsay, hi!

I looked on your shelves and chose The Secret Life of Violet Grant (Schuyler Sisters #1). It seemed like an interesting story to me, and I'm definitely going to research if I can find that book around here to read as well. Good reading!

Whoever is next, please pick my next read from the shelf "Available now"

Hi Renata, I think I changed the settings for the right way now to participate in the challenge. Thank you for pointing that out!

Please choose from my want to read list!

message 23: by Killian (new)

Killian Holmes | 3 comments Hi Rebecca! I chose for you Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I actually just read this book recently myself and would enjoy hearing your thoughts on it!

I would love for someone to pick a book for me as well!

message 24: by Lena (new)

Lena (lenaw) | 88 comments Hi Emma.
For you I chose Homegoing (/book/show/2...) It was one of my favourites last year and I hope that you’ll enjoy it, too.

Please choose from my „bookcase unread shelf. Thank you!

message 25: by Lina (new)

Lina | 182 comments Hi Lena,

I chose The Whale at the End of the World for you :) I hope you will like it as much as I did when I read it last year - I would love to know what you think about it afterwards!

Please choose from my to-read list (the short one - not the longlist)

message 26: by Pixiegirl105 (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Finished Night Film. I have to say the author leads you down an interesting path.

At Lina, I choose The Handmaid’s Tale. I liked the book (have not seen the series only the movie).

message 27: by Book_Fairy (new)

Book_Fairy (book_confessions_of_a_fangirl) | 5 comments I would pick Lord of the Flies I know it's not the lightest of reads, but it was truly life-changing. Especially, if you have it in physical form and really delve into it.

I am ready for my next book.

message 28: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (riareadstoomuch) | 186 comments Hey Book_Fairy. For you I choose What If It's Us. I read it a couple of years ago, and I really liked it.

To whoever is next: please pick a book from my physical tbr

message 29: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I finally read the YA SF novel The Consequence Girl which was recommended to me last year. I enjoyed it a lot, so thank you to whomever picked it for me.

Miriam, The Secret Garden is one of my all time favorites from when I was a little girl. I hope you enjoy it too!

Whoever picks for me, please choose from my on-deck list here: /review/list...

message 30: by Ellie (new)

Ellie Hohman | 22 comments Hi Cheryl,
Sorry, I hadn't read anything on your on-deck list, but I had read one of them on your x-new list, and I really liked Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao!
Whoever picks mine, please choose one from my want-to-read list!

message 31: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ellie, x-new is not a shelf I want to read from. You don't need to have read a book from my shelf, or even see anything that looks interesting. Run a random number generator if you must, but please pick from my on-deck shelf:

/review/list...

Ellie, your profile is set to private and so I cannot see your shelf to pick a book for you.

message 32: by Renata (new)

Renata (renatag) | 1405 comments Mod
Seems like some confusion here. Ellie must pick from Cheryl's "on-deck" shelf. Ellie must also update her profile from the current private setting. Next pick will then be for Ellie, by a random member, not Cheryl.

message 33: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Perfect!

message 34: by Ellie (new)

Ellie Hohman | 22 comments Sorry about the confusion! In that case, you should read The Errant Prince next! I just fixed my profile, so I am ready for my next book! Sorry again!

message 35: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 37 comments Hi Ellie,
You have so many great books in your to read list! However, I choose Sorcery of Thorns for you. I read it last month and really enjoyed it, I hope you do too!

I am ready for my next read I’d love a book from my ‘own this have not read yet or ‘pick for me shelf but am happy to read anything in my want to read book list.

Thank you!!!!!!

message 36: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 87 comments Lindsay, for you I pick All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I read it last year and loved it! Very well written and heartbreaking.

For my next book, please choose from my owned-tbr shelf. Thanks!

message 37: by superawesomekt (new)

superawesomekt | 264 comments Brittany, for you I choose Gods of Jade and Shadow. I thought the setting was quite original—I look forward to hearing what you think of it.

For my next read, please choose from my acquired-2021 list

message 38: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia | 664 comments Hi Superawesomekt,

From your list, I picked The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ search function appears to be down, otherwise I would've added the link. I'll try to edit it in a bit if they correct the issue soon).

I haven't read this book myself, but I've heard great things about it from friends.

For my next read, please choose from this shelf: /review/list...

message 39: by Ellie (new)

Ellie Hohman | 22 comments HI Cynthia,

From your shelf, I chose The Cruel Prince, which I read last year and I really loved the characters and the plot. I would recommend that you read the whole series, as I think that the books keep getting better as the series goes on. I hope you like it!

For whoever picks my book next, please pick from my to-read list!

message 40: by Keya (new)

Keya | 6 comments Hi! I just joined the group and Ellie, I would love to pick a book for you :)

And that would be...Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover, I listened to the audible version of this book and it was so good!! A beachy summer read with a neat plot twist in the end that left me shattered. I hope you enjoy it as much.

For whoever chooses my next read, please choose from my 2023 tbr, here is the link:
/review/show...

Superawesomekt, for you I choose The Benefits of Being an Octopus. I haven't read any of your books, but I think octopuses are fascinating creatures, so hope you like it.

message 47: by Lina (last edited Apr 01, 2023 05:13PM) (new)

Lina | 182 comments Roevardotter, for you I pick Book Lovers by Emily Henry - I would love to read it together with you soon and talk about it!

Pixiegirl105 Thanks a lot for picking The Handmaid's Tale for me! I finished it a while ago and really liked it (5 stars!). I am so glad you made me finally pick up the book (I have no idea why it had to wait so long on my shelf after I bought it - it really didn't deserve that treatment...). I hope I get to watch the series soon!
My review, in case you are interested in a more detailed description of my opinion: /review/show...

Whoever picks next: I would prefer for you to pick a book from my short 'Want to Read' Shelf. But if you can not find a book there that you like, my 'longlist' works as well. Thanks!
