Kahlua is a stronger flavor. There's just something about the concept of putting coffee and a liqueur together that always struck me as wonderful. Had to give it all up, though.
About a year after I'd quit drinking, my wife and I went to Hawaii for a few days and stayed with an old friend stationed there at the time and his wife. I hadn't mentioned to him that I wasn't drinking anymore - not a big secret, it just hadn't come up. They met us at the gate as we got off the plane and he hung a lei made of Kahlua miniatures around my neck - his face when I told him I'd quit was priceless, wish I'd had a camera. Turned out he'd gotten a bottle of Irish Mist for us to share that night, too. Oh, well, just more for him...

Oh so sad for your friend - he thought that he had thought of everything and was so pleased to surprise you with your faves. But I am sure that he got over it when you gave him the reasoning behind it. I am more of a wine drinker with an occasional beer with pizza...so not much of a whiskey drinker. It does seem to be coming back into vogue though I noticed.

If "5 favorite people" had been a category, this friend would probably have been on my list. We've been friends since 9th grade, almost 40 years now. Until a few weeks ago I'd have said he was my oldest friend. Recently, though, I got an email via Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ that turned out to be from a guy who was my best friend in grade school!

Very true in most families..I often wonder how that happens when the parents are exactly the same.

It is always great to hear those kind of stories. Now we can get back to favorite things and I think you should have listed your stepfather...he sounds like quite the guy.
We also have an Off Topic forum too.

My favorite people in history are people that I think I would enjoy spending time with talking and arguing. So I would include Voltaire, Ben Franklin, and Mark Twain as starters. A few mad geniuses like Beethoven, Mozart, or Stalin would be worth spending time with also.
It sounds like you had a fun time. John, see if you can tackle the whole list it would be interesting...just do a cut and paste and add your own faves.
Did you go skiing in Wyoming and Utah...hiking or just a family vacation. It must have been very pretty there this time of year.
I am not sure if I would want to spend much time with Stalin or possibly Voltaire...they were pretty unpredictable. And with the former..it may be hazardous to your health.

Your choices are interesting too James..which Queen Elizabeth? Now Leonardo Da Vinci might be tempting and even Michelangelo but I don't think I would change my guest list. If I were to change one it might be FDR for Leonardo...I also wanted to ask John Adams but I tried to pare down my list (smile).

Feel free to expound on all of your favorite musicians and artists...many folks have.
I never heard of a 45/90 Stearns either so I had to look it up:
Now that had to be before your time..but I can see that you are into vintage automobiles from your response to number 10...have you restored a 45/90 Stearns?
Very interesting answers Harry.

Unfortunately, only one 45/90 has survived and it is not in my possession. But if you read Ralph Stein's description of that last one, if you were a gearhead you would want it. By the way, a Chadwick Great Six is up there with the Sterns. The American Automobile
Sounds good Harry, one other thing we have a rule to add the book cover, author's photo when available and the author's link.
The goodreads software is powerfully populating when this is done.
Ralph Stein
In the case of the book above, the cover was available, the author's photo was not and the author's link always is; so your citation should look like the one above.
Too bad the 45/90 is not in your possession.
