Heidi So jealous Bluemoon. On a side note, my hubby asked me last night if I would be ok if he watched baseball(Go Cubs if he is around - Go Twins for me :) Anyhoo, I was all like "Oh...ok", but I was thinking "Sweet, now I can read all night!". I cranked out 250 pages of the monster book known as The Hunger. Yeah for me!

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments heidi - how are you liking Hunger??

message 154: by Melle (new)

Melle | 1 comments I just read The Dead Tossed Waves and I would definitely recommend it!

Becca | 1608 comments I'm glad you liked it Bluemoon! I thought the author did a really good job.

message 156: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Laura - I'm liking Hunger as much, or more than book one :)

message 157: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Bluemoon - you and I are always reading the same books around the same time!

message 158: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments OMGoodness! Can I just say I read and totally recommend Graceling. I can't believe how good this book was for being her first novel! I'm stunned. I loved it.

message 159: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Move it up your list. I'm glad I did.

message 160: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments lol, Gone is like #98 on my tbr pile. I'm sure I'll like it if I ever get to it.

message 161: by Ann (new)

Ann Bluemoon wrote: "they said to read Gone before Graceling or else I won't like Gone as much...."

I think they said to read Poison Study before you read Graceling (they are kind of similar), because Graceling is a better book. I loved them both, though.

message 162: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I didn't think they were really similar. I thought they were both pretty distinct stories from each other. They are similar in some ways, but very very different in the majority of the stories.

message 163: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Graceling is excellent, especially on audio. I have Fire on hold for me (audiobook) at the library. Hope I like it as much as Graceling. It seems that people liked one or the other more, not equally.

message 164: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments Fire is okay... but nothing at all like Graceling (imo).

My point exactly!

Ashley Mayer (ashleymayer) | 125 comments I just finished Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink and I loved it! I couldn't put it down!!

Ann Becca wrote: "I didn't think they were really similar. I thought they were both pretty distinct stories from each other. They are similar in some ways, but very very different in the majority of the stories."

By similar I meant that both are fantasy books with strong female characters. In one book the main character is an assasin, in the other, the main character is the king's food taster, but both are forced to kill people, whether in self-defense or to protect other people. Both also take place in other worlds that resemble medieval times w/ a magical twist.

I HIGHLY Recommend this book, very different from my normal genre of mysteries and forensics, and I give it high marks : 0 Plus we get a strong female character

message 169: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I just finished I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak and highly recommend the audiobook version of this book. I loved the narrator :)

Good to know Bluemoon :)

Nicole Callinicos | 1 comments A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle Series #1) by Libba Bray

this book is really good it is an easy read even tho the 1800s setting threw me off sometimes it is also becoming a movie coming out this year(2010) and i strongly recommend it

message 176: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments Oh wow, Nicole, I have no idea they were making A Great and Terrible Beauty into a movie. I'm going to have to look it up.

I'm curious to see what they do with it. Should be...interesting.

I actually heard that the movie was nixed for now.

Laura | 114 comments Oh, thanks for the update, Michelle. I just checked Libba's blog entry from last year where she gave the explanation. Maybe they'll do it in the future.

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments I just finished The Book Thief on audio and loved it!!!

Who was the narrator??

message 181: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Laura wrote: "I just finished The Book Thief on audio and loved it!!!"

Yeah!!!! I am so glad you loved it too. Don't you think the audio book made it even better?

message 182: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Laura - the narrator for I am the Messenger is some Australian actor (the book is based in Australia where Markus is from). It is way different from Book Thief, but they are both great on audio.

I hope so, Laura! But only if they do it right. I love that series!

You were right on the mark on The Book Thief, so I am going to order this one from the library on audio as well!

Absolutely! I am not sure if I could've read it since I usually do not care for war related topics. But with 'death' narrating, it made it very interesting.

message 186: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I just finished Nobody's Princess. It was cute and interesting to see Helen in this light, so I would recommend it to someone looking for a light-hearted fast read. I'm going to read the next one, Nobody's Prize, but I hope it's a little less juvenile and faster-paced.

message 187: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments just finished Will Grayson, Will Grayson. I liked it a lot. It took a bit to get used to the writing style but once I did it was great.

message 188: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I haven't read the last one yet (The Last Olympian), but I look forward to getting it from the library when it finally comes available. I enjoyed the series too so far. They've been very quick reads that are completely enjoyable.

message 189: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments YAY Bluemoon! Now you have to read Hunger !!

message 190: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Graceling! Read it next, then you'll add Fire to your seconds list. I liked it just as much as Graceling, but be prepared for a totally different female protagonist.

message 191: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I just listened to The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice, #1) by John Flanagan and totally recommend it. John Keating was the reader, and he was awesome! I enjoyed him just as much as the guy who read HP.

message 192: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments Bluemoon wrote: "So Fire is just a complimentary book to Graceling right? it's not a continuation of it..."
Correct - totally different characters...

message 193: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments It may even be considered a "Prequel" to Graceling, but they are two completely different stories. I would recommend Graceling first simply because if you read Fire first you'll know the background of one of the characters in Graceling that is supposed to be sort of a surprise.

message 194: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Yup it is a companion book - set in the same world, but a different time.

message 195: by Laurence (new)

Laurence (lovetoreadnyc) I just read Hush, Hush but do not recommend it. I was disappointed and expected so much more. I was constatntly waiting for something to happen...the chemistry between the main characters just did not work for me. oh well. Starting Fallen tonight. Hope it is better :-)

message 196: by Susan (new)

Susan Ohhh I loved Hush Hush! Cant believe I have to wait until November to read Crescendo(Book 2)!!!

message 197: by Emmy (new)

Emmy I have read Sabriel almost every summer since I was 12 and I love it! I recommend it to everyone!

I love these books as well! They are great!

message 199: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I just finished The Giver (The Giver, #1) by Lois Lowry . All I can say is what an incredible book and beautiful story. I usually don't read the books with deep meaning and powerful messages. Maybe I should do it more often. I highly recommend that anyone who hasn't read this book do so as soon as possible.

message 200: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 7 comments Oh my goodness, I have trouble keeping up with you ladies (and gentlemen?) and you're reading!
I'm in complete awww!

Whoever is listening to Golden Compass as an audiobook, it's a GREAT audio. That was my first try with audio, and I couldn't have been happier with the experience. I recommended it to someone who didn't understand why I was so upset with the movie version, and he liked it too. If you like that one, there are two more in the trilogy, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.

I requested Gone from the library, and then realized how many pages it was and sent it back because I didn't have enough time to handle that many. Is it really worth checking out?

Haddix has a new series out called the Missing, with Found being the first book and Sent being the second.

I feel in love with Fabelhaven and Graceling, and now have the sequels in my very large TBR pile. I have the whole day off work tomorrow, and will hopefully be able to whittle it down some. oh yeah, and then I have the remaining three Percy Jackson's to read.

I've heard good things about the Ranger's Apprentice series, so hopefully will get to that by the end of the year.

And Bluemoon, you spend entirely too much time on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. How can you be in soo many groups and contribute so much?!
