We have been often told not to "judge a book by its cover', but how many of us have often fallen victim to a pretty cover.

Well, time to let those eyes roam for May's Cover Hunt Challenge.

Duration: May 1, 2010 - May 31, 2010

Categories:

Read 3 books whose that has a single male on the cover.
Read 3 books whose that has a single female on the cover.
Read 2 books whose cover feature a couple.
Read 2 books where there is no person or human image at all.

Easy enough? Be sure to post the covers for proof.

To post covers, click on the upper right hand of the text box (add book/author), search for your book, at the bottom, select 'cover' instead of 'link, and then click 'add'.

You may post your list anytime, but no reading before May 1.

Kelley Anne | 286 comments Intriguing idea! I'm going to have to turn the "covers" view on my bookshelf and do some hunting!

Quick question, when you say "profile" that means they can't be facing front, right? Do they have to be facing to the side, or can they be facing backwards?

Good question. I edited the categories to make it easier. Doesn't matter what pose they are in.

Nita (gillnit) I'm in, but I do have a question, Yz. Where would you put Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward ? I was going to put it in the single male category, but you do see a females hands on his chest, though no other part of her. So do you suggest single male or couple category? Thanks!

Hmm....tough call...but I'm leaning to couple.

Need to decide on the books.

Ok, I have a question though. Some UK and US covers are different and some aren't even on the goodreads website, so if I pick a book that doesn't have the cover, can I put the link to the UK site so you can see? The reason I ask is that the Sookie books were reissued with TV character tie ins.

Gem, check again, as I went through and added a bunch of pics - as the books were out there, just without covers. =)

Ecstasy I didn't realize that the nightwalkers spun into this series, Shadowdwellers. I enjoy her books, but they aren't Showalter, Ward, Cole to me. The world was new and intreguing. The two protagonists definately had chemistry and connected. Sometimes I think she over describes the characters when they are talking- she gives to much intention detail. It is also up there on the sex content. Not erotica, but if you find Ward uncomfortable, this will put a blush on your cheeks. (especially her discovery of sex school)
A Quick Bite I actually saw a lot of folks here reading this series last month and put it on my "to try" list. I really enjoyed it. I liked how it was so different from what I had been reading. It is a sweet little love story, unlike the impression the descriptors gave me. Almost YA in style- very low on graphics. Not intense in any way.
Ecstasy (Shadowdwellers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank , A Quick Bite (Argeneau, #1) by Lynsay Sands , The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld, #5) by Gena Showalter (out May 25),
Read 3 books with a lucious lass on the cover.
Tempting Danger I saw this on some of last month's reads and gave it an impromtu whirl. Jeez. What a delightful surprise. It is so weird that all the common threads are there...Lupi, magic..indians...family and pack... yet it is wholey unique. It would qualify as a PNR, but it reads more like a UF- more Mercy Thompson. I guess Cat and Bones are together at the end of book 1 right? Still. I am glad there are LOTS of books in this series. It's been a while since I have had a series like that to enjoy.
Kiss Of Death This is the eighth book in the Morganville Vampire series. Basically, Michael is invited to go to Dallas to a recording studio. All 4 are allowed to go as long as Oliver chaperones, ensuring a return of course! The normal life/death morganvillesque calamady ensues. I did enjoy the progression of love for the couples. It was nice to see them each think somewhat about the future. Both were portrayed well for their young (in my opinion) if experienced lives. Did it leave me as satisfied as Sookie? No. Did I enjoy reading it? You bet. But if you are new to Morganville, start with book 1.
Kitty and the Midnight Hour I have been saving Kitty Norville, knowing that this was going to be a series I sunk my teeth into. It did not dissappoint. For the first part of the book I was truly disturbed by her attitude about how her alpha was treating her. Then I got how the author was using that insight to show character change/growth. Frankly, after Laurell Hamilton I have to open my mind to thinking/values way outside my comfort zone so it didn't just dawn on me that the author intended it the way she did. (hopefully that was obtuse enough to not spoil it for anyone)
I have already downloaded book 2 and I am a few short clicks from starting it on the heals of a well written #1.
Kitty Goes to Washington I totally get why so many people are hooked on these books. Apparently I am going into a Kitty Norville coma this week. How many of these books are there? 8? 9??? Jeez. I hope I remember to pick my kids up from school and feed them :)
Kitty Takes a Holiday Grrr. Loved the story. Hated who she hooked up with. Maybe it was because she kept wondering about the guy's best friend! I know people sometimes wonder "what if" when things don't follow a romantic path that might have, but I couldn't help but think eww. when ever any of them reflected on it. Don't get me wrong. I loved the book. I whipped through it and I am climbing into the tub with the next in the series. I just hope I don't spend another book ewwing the relationship part. :)
Kitty and the Silver Bullet
OK. Ben grew on me. This may have been my favorite in the series so far. Not so much for the relationship-although it was much easier- but for the political and family dynamic/struggle. Great new characters to look out for and loved the resolution to some 'problems' from book one.
Ill Wind The TV rights to this were sold, but Caine says she doesn't know that it will ever go anywhere. I can see the lure. Really unique world to discover while a story of adventure and romance unfolds. I did enjoy it, but didn't rush to book 2. I will some day. Just not today.

Lover Mine Having waited for so long, I was ready to be disappointed. There was one little thread of the story that was addressed frequently during the book that wasn't resolved-obveously it is going to 'come out' later. Other than that the book was beyond my expectations. It was sooo well written, and given that both of the main characters were already familiar, oh so satisfying! This and Z's story are probably now my faves.
Dead in the Family Don't you just LOVE ya some Sookie! The only problem is that it is just Never enough. I swear to you, CH tried her hardest to hit all those we love and really delve into each and every one of their familial ties- while still threading some mystery in there to be solved- but all I wanted was MORE! Really. Enough of the 300page books. After a year don't we deserve a 7 or 800 behemoth?
Damien This is such a traditional romance series. The waxing prose, the flow of the storyline, the secondaryness of all else but the romance...
If you are in the mood for one of those lovey-dovey romances with a paranormal twist- this is one to try. Every now and then, I am in the mood for just that. It doesn't hook me like a book where the romance is secondary to a larger story. I prefer snarky humor to run rampant and the mushy gushy love prose to be a small dash of salt on the story. That being said, the Nightwalkers world is unique. There is in fact a battle with an evil of sorts that throughout the books works to bring each of the isolated species of nightwalkers together to work in cooperation for peace.
Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris , Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward , Damien (Nightwalkers, #4) by Jacquelyn Frank , Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead (out 5/18)
Read 2 books with covers void of homeo sapien action.
Shiver
Well. Just...Damn.
Typically, I don't particularly thrill to young adult books. Mortal Instuments- unbearable. Hunger Games- Can't get past the horrifying plot line even knowing there is a HOA at the end.
Wicked Lovely, HON, VA, Beautiful Creatures- good. I enjoy them, but I don't salivate over them.
Yah. Ok. I am a Twihard. I admit it.
Now. Wow. Am I a Shivhard? Shiv-a-holic?
Seriously, tears are rolling down my old wrinkled face. I am WAY too old for this, yet...
Yah. Just... Moved.
My Soul to Lose
This is a prequel to the Soul Screamers series that you can get as a free ebook. And frankly it should be free. The only reason I will read book one is because it has high ratings with a fairly large # of readers. Enough for an avid reader to give it a try (especially starting with the 'try a sample for free' button on the kindle app.
My Soul to Take So with the mantra: Fair is fair, I went ahead and read the actual first book in the series... and it was good. The whole premise and execution were novel to me. I won't give it away, but when she was 'revealed' I had a 'duh' moment. (really, how did I miss that?) The end surprised me. A rare treat in and of itself. I am glad I read it, but I have to say- the next book's teaser did nothing for me. I enjoyed the world building, but not sure I am along for the ride. Mostly because it is YA and they just don't hook me as well.
