Rachel Swimming Lessons by Mary Alice Monroe 6/26/13This was a good novel mainly about mother-and-daughter relationships, like the first novel Beach House. It's well written, the characters are well drawn and interesting. I really enjoyed it and learned a bit more about sea turtles again.

Rachel Until We Reach Home by Lynn Austin 6/28/13
This was a well-written and engaging historical novel. The characters were well drawn, and I enjoyed seeing them overcome obstacles and mature both as persons and as believers.

message 1122: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden 6/30/13
This was a suspenseful and interesting historical novel. The characters were well portrayed, and I enjoyed learning something about early Naval intelligence and about opium smuggling and consumption in America.

Rachel The Last Empress (Empress Orchid, #2) by Anchee Min 7/6/13
This was an interesting historical novel. It was very well-written, and I really liked the characters and how they were portrayed. I enjoyed the look into Chinese history.

Natalie, I did the same thing! :) I think they should've numbered them. I read the third one first, but I would have preferred to read them in order.
I was so confused :/

Rachel Xone of Contention (Xanth, #23) by Piers Anthony 7/8/13
The Xanth novels are a hilarious fantasy series about a land of magic and its inhabitants and occasionally some people from or in Mundania (the real world). One of the reasons I find the Xanth stories so funny is because Xanth is a land of puns. Even though I've only read a few of them and mostly random ones out of order, I've loved all of them, and this one was no exception. They are well written, the characters are well drawn, and the plots are a lot of fun.

message 1137: by Rachel (new)

Rachel The Witches of Eastwick by John Updike 7/11/13
I found Updike's writing style to be a little slow and ponderous, and there wasn't all that much of a plot. It was a decent historical fantasy but nothing to write home about.

Natalie wrote: "Finished Plain Pursuit and Plain Promise last night. So good. Don;t read them out of order like I did."
I am planning to read the first one of this series next. I too like to read series books in order. I am getting a little frustrated at the library they will some times only carry some ebook copies of some series so I have to be really careful before I start a series to make sure I can get the books in order.
