I remember reading a sort of Mills & Boon book which was about a Englisher who gone back home after her parents death she had given birth to a child by an Amish Man well they fell in love & while they never got the child back as she had it adopted she did in honour of the father make sure it was adopted to an Amish Family it must be 25+ years ago

I never found another Amish novel, i then found Plain Truth & as i read it i realise i seen it as a film then i guess in the last 6 years or so i found Amish authors & have been reading them ever since plus since getting a Kindle i have even bought books i had read as i don't have space to keep book i have had to get rid of them so now i can keep them & reread them when i want to
Hugs Janice

Janice (lostfamilies) | 111 comments Here is a question for you all who have Kindles

The Amish books which are very short say 22 pages do you buy them

Myself if a book is less than a generous 100 pages or longer i won't consider buying it especially if it one that is a series as i feel that i be better off saving my money & buying something that is much longer i say 200 plus pages long

Do any of you feel like this or is it just me

Hugs Janice

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 1126 comments @Janice: I like novellas because I can read the quickly and they are usually cheaper than full-length books. I usually focus on the authors I like, (i.E. Becca Fisher, Daisy Fields, and Sicily Yoder), and ignore the ones that seem to have a darker plot. Hope this helps.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 1126 comments I'm 80% done with A Little Bit of Charmon my Kindle. It is good. Review to come.

message 1362: by Janice (new)

Janice (lostfamilies) | 111 comments Thanks Natalie
It not that i wouldn't enjoy them but when i can pay between £0.77p - £2.05 for such a short story i feel as i am not getting my money where if i buy a book for anything from £0.49 upwards i got 4 books just yesterday for £6.12 so they was £1.53 each some books that are trilogy or more in one bundle i have paid more but then it could over 800 pages so you have a good story that gone in to some depth so that the other point if they are that short the story is over before it really began

Carole Jarvis The One Year Book of Amish Peace Hearing God's Voice in the Simple Things by Tricia Goyer Not fiction, but a wonderful devotional by Tricia Goyer that draws wisdom from Amish culture and lifestyle. Highly recommended!

Rachel Sisters of the Quilt The Complete Trilogy by Cindy Woodsmall 12/12/13
I really loved this trilogy of novels. They are well-written, and the character development is very well done. They were also quite entertaining.

Rachel started The Fiddler (Home to Hickory Hollow #1) by Beverly Lewis this morning

Rachel The Fiddler (Home to Hickory Hollow #1) by Beverly Lewis 12/28/13
Beverly Lewis has long held a high place among my favorite authors of Christian fiction, and this particular novel has been one of the more unique Amish novels I've ever read because the plot is so highly original. I also enjoyed the characters, and they were portrayed well, but they didn't truly grow and change over the course of the story even though the two main characters made life-changing decisions. I found myself wanting to know a great deal more about the characters once I reached the end of the novel. Overall, I found the novel very good, and I greatly enjoyed it, but I found it somewhat lacking even though I will call it a new favorite.

Rachel The Bridesmaid (Home to Hickory Hollow, #2) by Beverly Lewis 12/29/13
Beverly Lewis has long held a high place among my favorite authors of Christian fiction, and this particular novel is very good. I enjoyed the characters a great deal, and they were portrayed well, and in contrast to the first novel of this series, they grew and changed more over the course of the story. I still wanted to know more about the characters and their story, but I didn't feel deprived of story pieces as I did with the first novel. It's definitely a new favorite and five-star novel.

Jessica Strack (netsiren) | 75 comments Goodness! I think we need a "What are you reading in 2014" to replace this thread! It has over 1,000 post! For slackers like me that's a lot of catch up reading LOL.

Ok I'm finishing up 2013 reading "A Revelation in Autumn" by Wanda Brunstetter.

Jessica, I will never catch up, either! And I probably read one Amish based book a month! But then again, I just started reading these posts about 2 months ago.

Rachel The Guardian (Home to Hickory Hollow #3) by Beverly Lewis 12/31/13
Beverly Lewis has long held a high place among my favorite authors of Christian fiction, and this particular novel is good. It is written well, and the plot was unique as was the first in this series. I found the characters interesting, and they grew and changed during the course of the story but not as much as was the case with the second book of the series. It is a new favorite, however, and I enjoyed it.

Amber Shaw | 6 comments I just got done reading Courting Cate (Courtships of Lancaster County Book #1) by Leslie Gould.
I loved it, yes its the same girl meets boy falls in love type of story. But for some reason I love Amish Love Stories.

I'm hooked on the series so now I gotta buy the other two to this series.

message 1385: by Janice (new)

Janice (lostfamilies) | 111 comments I also enjoy Amish books as well I would recommend Seasons of the Heart series by Charlotte Hubbard as it not just a boy meets girl it has a nasty bishop you need to start at the beginning of the series or it won't all fit in
Hugs Janice

I started listening to my "Z" book for the A-Z Reading Challenge this morning on the way to work. I was a tad startled when the words came flying out of the sound system. Apparently I didn't remember that Z Is for Xenophobe was sci-fi -- that was a wake up!
