Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Farther into Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, #1) by Zoe Archer and loving it. Kicking myself for not starting this a whole lot sooner.

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Finished Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan & really enjoyed it, in spite of the false advertising.

Starting/Currently Reading: Stolen Fury (Stolen Trilogy, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins

message 603: by Kerstin (last edited Mar 04, 2011 03:24PM) (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I finished Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, #2) by Richelle Mead and have to say that I fully agree with Josie and Ames opinion about Kiyo! Before this book I just found him a bit annoying, but after... well, what can I say, I now certainly agree with wishing a fiery death on him.

@Sandra and Vivian - I'm really enjoying Ender's Game. It's a fantastic read. I wonder why I haven't picked it up earlier.

@Sandra - Are you on Xenocide (Ender's Saga, #3) by Orson Scott Card? I'm reading it too, partly because it's an "X" book..."

No, I haven't started Xenocide (Ender's Saga, #3) by Orson Scott Card yet, waiting on it from the library. Might be a while yet, looking forward to it though. Would of liked to read these books in school but I'm a little too old *sigh* for that.

@Daffodil, glad you're liking Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, #1) by Zoe Archer I think I've got Scoundrel (The Blades of the Rose, #2) by Zoe Archer this month in a challenge.

message 605: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments @Daffodil, GTK. I've got that one to start.

@Lethal, false advertising?

message 606: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments @ Steph: It's marketed as a UF but it's a PNR IMO.

message 607: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments A bit, it felt more UF w/some romance. I do wonder how much romance will be in the other books. I'm hoping for more action, less romance with the series. But really like the David, so some wouldn't be a bad thing, for me.

Plus, PNR would mean a HEA in each book. Kinda hoping it doesn't go that far with the romantic aspects.

message 608: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Read I'm the Vampire, That's Why (Broken Heart Vampires, #1) by Michele Bardsley which reminded me of MaryJanice Davidson's books which were referred to in this. It was different seeing a parent as the main character for a change but I would've liked to see more of the kids.

message 609: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments Yeah, the kids are more background than fore in that series, Ames. She focuses more on the single parent's romance/HEA. More of the kids would be interesting though.

Sandra | 25822 comments Humming and hawing over which book to read so I don't upset Bingo, then I thought what the heck I'll read what I want to read.

So started Dark Embers (Dragon's Heat, #1) by Tessa Adams and I'm really liking it so far. You can feel the desperation of Dylan who wants to save his clan.

message 611: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Finished River Marked (Mercedes Thompson #6) by Patricia Briggs and I just <3 this series. Mercy may be my favorite female lead (but that probably changes depending on what I just read). I was only slightly disappointed that there wasn't too much of the side characters, but what you get with Mercy and Adam is so good, it more than makes up for it and thinking about the book makes me smile :D

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments Sandra wrote: "You can feel the desperation of Dylan who wants to save his clan."

I thought so too. I thought she did a very good job of bringing us right into his world and the pain of their losses.

Really looking forward to Quinn's story in #2, Hidden Embers. So glad you're liking it.

Listening to on audio Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

A book that makes you smile is a good thing. :) I loved that Stefan appeared right at the beginning and the thing that happens around 10% definitely made me smile. :)

ETA:
(response to 10% thing)

Oh, and just read Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins . So so good. There's only a few YA series that I really really enjoy, and this is one of them. Snarky humor, a feel-good vibe, and wacky characters you just gotta love :)

message 618: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments Glad you're enjoying RM, Regina! Can't wait for mine to get here! Hope my mailman didn't get lost on his trek across the big blue. ;)

GTK, Vivian. I have #1 TBR and just keep forgetting about it.

message 620: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments Absolutely! Gonna gift mine with some wings for future use. ;)

message 621: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Forced myself to put down Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, #1) by Zoe Archer , so I could read my Bingo read yesterday.

Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning Faefever was a great read. The best thing about this book is the character of Jericho Barrons. He's a mystery; is he good or bad? Is he Fae or something else? Everytime we get some hint or clue it only leads to more questions. Luckily I already have the fourth book on hand, so the cliffhanger ending won't drive me too crazy!

River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs came Saturday and I started it also. But I had to leave it home today. :( I don't like carrying my "keeper" hardback books to work with me. I've had too many accidents with leaky lunch containers and punctured pop cans to feel secure in that, so I'll be reading Warrior on my lunch hour.

message 622: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I gave River Marked 5 stars. Finished it last night around 1 am. I just love Adam and Mercy, it is such a sweet but filling book. I never want to rush through her books.

I am reading two Net Galley books right now: The Enterprise of Death by Jesse Bullington The Raising by Laura Kasischke

message 623: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Daffodil, JZB is one of the best male characters written in an UF series in my opinion. He is very interesting to read!

message 624: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Read Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson which was sad (it's about a teenage girl who'd been raped), had some great ideas but the writing wasn't the best, IMO.

Also bought and read Of Swine and Roses by Ilona Andrews which read like it was set in the same world as their Edge series. I really enjoyed it.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer in paper.
Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer on my Sony Pocket.
Glass (Crank, #2) by Ellen Hopkins in audio.

message 626: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments I finished 13 to Life (13 to Life, #1) by Shannon Delany and enjoyed it. The end definitely made up for the beginning, although it wasn't terrible (the beginning). Dare I say it had some similarities to "the series that shall not be named"? LOL! None of the "bad bits" of that one though. Plus, shifters are hotter. LOL! I also read the prequel, such as it was, could'a been a bit longer than it was, not much too it really. I wasn't sure when I was reading #1 if I'd continue to #2, until the end. Now, I know I will check it out.

Started A Taste of Crimson (Crimson City, #2) by Marjorie M. Liu which has been on my TBR Mt for just about as long as I've been reading. LOL! I have it in several challenges, so there's no getting around it. I forced myself to plug it into March challenges, just to be sure I didn't put it off until Dec '11. Only 7% or so in and remembering why I bought the bloody thing. I like the vamps in the series and had forgotten all about the vamp/were troubles brewing. Getting (or trying to get) excited about diving back into that world again.

Still trying to find the time to listen to Pale Demon (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows #9) by Kim Harrison . I want to focus my attention 100% so I don't miss anything. But, everytime I hit 'play' I get distracted by something else (ADD ... ah, pretty .... gotta make a list .... Bingo .... oh, crap!) and realize I wasn't listening. Augh! LOL! >:) I'll get it read one way or another before the month's over.

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments I am looking forward to your thoughts on Nightshade, AV. Hope it lives up to the beauty of the book itself (cover/pages).

message 628: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments Just started The Mage in Black (Sabina Kane, #2) by Jaye Wells and really enjoy it as it dives right into the action.

I'm also reading Iron Crowned (Dark Swan, #3) by Richelle Mead .

message 629: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments I like that about that series too, Kerstin.

message 630: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments AV - hope you like Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer . I almost bought it after borrowing and reading it from the library just for the pretty cover. The book itself I liked a lot too.

message 631: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I am reading the most amazing book right now AND it was free from NetGalley: The Raising by Laura Kasischke . I am a little over 1/2 way through, but it is so intense. The characters are amazing and it is very spooky. There is this horrible (but good!) feeling that something very scary is right around the corner. And I think the setting for me is so real, it is (I think) the U of W college campus, it is told from 4 POVs -- 2 male students and then 2 female college professors. But it is very effective. I actually had trouble going to sleep last night and nothing has happened yet but there is that feeling, you know?

message 632: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments That sounds really good Regina! I might have to add it to my ever growing TBR mountain.

message 633: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments It is good and so far the bad group are a scary group of soriority sisters. I know that sounds silly (it does even as I type it). But there are complex relationship issues, truly felt love, and even explicit sex. :)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I'm currently reading Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6) by Richelle Mead . Read the first two books last year, but didn't read the third until a couple of weeks ago. Once I finished it, I just had to finish up the rest of the series. I'm not done with the book, but O M G. I can't even guess how it's going to end.

message 641: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32521 comments Sounds good, Regina! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy!

Congrats, Josie! :D

:) Alyssa, enjoy! I am always bummed when a fun series comes to an end. Looking forward to the spin-off/new one though.

About to start Glory in Death (In Death, #2) by J.D. Robb

I'm probably going to start one of my BSB books ( Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger & Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins ) today too. Do I want to feel like Emo shit or do I want to laugh? Hmmm....

message 648: by Vivian (last edited Mar 13, 2011 04:55AM) (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Reading Grave Illusions (Jess Vandermire 1) by Lina Gardiner . Also a free ebook on Amazon right now. Even if it wasn't free, I'd say it's a pretty good book so far :)

ETA: scratch that. Don't bother. Not that great. 2 stars.

Still trekking through Juliet by Anne Fortier . I like it, but am struggling to get through it for some reason.

message 649: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I really enjoyed Burning Alive for a PNR, I gave it 3.5 stars. I liked the story arc, I read that some people were bothered by the heroine, but I don't get that (but then again I liked Mac in Fever ;) ). One of the set ups to the story is similar to the set up in CL Wilson's Lord of the Fading Lands -- a race of people are dying, the women are dissapearing, nobody is fertile and the race needs a mated pair to help the men support the burden of their power/acts and to fight. But I liked how it was set up better in Burning Alive (as compared to the CL Wilson series, which I didnt care for).

@ Vivian thanks for letting us know, I had downloaded that book. And sometimes good books leave me struggling and I can't figure out why.

I am currently reading:

Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin Among the Living (PsyCop, #1) by Jordan Castillo Price

And listening to the audio of The Way of Shadows (Night Angel, #1) by Brent Weeks
