Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments @ Moss -- I recently read The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley . This isn't one of Ashley's paranormals, but it was an excellent read. If you like historical romance, it's well worth the time.

You might also give J.D. Robb's In Death series a try. Futuristic mystery/police procedurals and supernatural beings. First book Naked in Death (In Death #1) by J.D. Robb

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments @ Moss I just recently read/listened to 3 pychological thrillers set in Dublin and written by an Irish author. I LOVED them.

In the Woods by Tana French The Likeness by Tana French Faithful Place by Tana French

I have also heard really good stuff about this book, which is also a psychological thriller:

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

message 954: by [deleted user] (new)

@Daffodil: I've been trying to get my hands on the Ashley book for the longest time, but all the booksellers I use aren't coming through. Arg so frustrating and doubly so now that you've recc'ed it. Will try harder, it does look like lots of fun. Thanks!

@Steph: a psychological thriller might just do the trick too! I loathe Donna Tartt, she's so freakin Boston elite. But I've got the first French book on my next BD order. Thanks mate :)

message 955: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Moss I actually discovered Tana French bc Stacia Kane rated her books 5 stars. That is what led me to her. :)

Its funny you use the phrase "palette cleanser" because I just said the same thing the other day! I started the October Daye series Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire A Local Habitation (October Daye, #2) by Seanan McGuire An Artificial Night (October Daye, #3) by Seanan McGuire Late Eclipses (October Daye #4) by Seanan McGuire . A straight forward UF with a good heroine. Its a nice break from vampires/werewolves/PNR.

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments Welcome, Judithe. I'm lookin' to read more dragons too. So, I'll be hoppin' over to check out Sandra's shelf as well. :)

Moss wrote: "@Steph: a psychological thriller might just do the trick too! I loathe Donna Tartt, she's so freakin Boston elite. But I've got the first French book on my next BD order. Thanks mate :) "

That was Regina, actually, but thanks for the shout out. ;)

Welcome to the group, Christen! It's always nice to have a good UF when the HEA are givin' ya a cavity.

I'm really enjoying Tessa Adam's 2nd Dragon's Heat book: Hidden Embers (Dragon's Heat, #2) by Tessa Adams . It's got my emotions all over the place --- super hot and sexy dragon love one minute and super sad dragon loss the next. I'm so happy to see #3 is due out later this year. She's spoiling me with releases so close together. Gonna have serious Dragonstar Clan withdrawal if she can't keep up this pace. ;)

I'm also liking The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld, #7) by Gena Showalter so far, but I can tell that I'll need a "palette cleanser" book after these two hot PNRs.

I'll probably jump back into John Cleaver since I only have two other April books (both PNR) TBR and plenty of time to get to them later.

Sandra | 25800 comments I'm hanging on to Hidden Embers (Dragon's Heat, #2) by Tessa Adams until closer to the 3rd books release. There was enough loss in the 1st book. LOL.

Reading Scoundrel (The Blades of the Rose, #2) by Zoe Archer for RRRC challenge and its a good change of pace from the paranormals, only a slight touch of magic in this series.

Regina wrote: "Moss I actually discovered Tana French bc Stacia Kane rated her books 5 stars. That is what led me to her. :)"

Whoops, sorry, thanks Regina! for the recs. I'm excited that Stacia Kane likes her, given my kind of stalker-ish obsession with her Downside Ghosts characters.

message 960: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments Yeah, there was, Sandra. More in Hidden as well. :( But such a good read. Really excited that #3 will be out this year.

I'm reading John Cleaver #2 Mr. Monster (John Cleaver, #2) by Dan Wells for Fantasy Baseball trilogy-read.

Still listening to The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld, #7) by Gena Showalter as I have time.

Soon to pick another read for our upcoming bingo shelf. ;)

They're won't be any characters left if they keep bumping them off. LOL.

About to start Another One Bites the Dust (Jaz Parks, #2) by Jennifer Rardin for Bingo and various other challenges. Yay!

message 962: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments Seriously! But, in this one they mentioned something like 20,000 or 2,000 (dang, can't remember which - but, quite a bit) of the town's population were part of the Dragonstar clan. So, lots left, even if we haven't seen them much yet. :)

message 963: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25800 comments OK, I'm guessing 2,000 cause Dylan was worried they'd all be dead soon in Dark Embers (Dragon's Heat, #1) by Tessa Adams

message 964: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments I wasn't sure, so I looked it up. This is what was said, "Phoebe had told her last night that the population was close to twenty thousand and that just about everyone was a member of the Dragonstar clan." Think that means they are all dragons?

message 965: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25800 comments That or mates, maybe. Still 20,000 is a lot. So OK they can kill off a couple. LOL.

CyberAlmu | 302 comments Good morning, ladies!
I'm enjoying some days off in the north of Spain, coming to my cousin's wedding. Gorgeous landscape, very green. And the house lays between the mountain and the sea.

I brought with me many books but I'm actually not getting too much time to read. Whenever I get the chance and grab a book, I'm overwhelmed by the sounds of nature, the wind, the birds, the crickets.. I don't get any of this in Madrid..

So, I'm currently reading Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews . Oh my, Kate is so much fun!! And her+Curran are the best!

I try to keep up with you but I the Internet here is practically nonexistent.

Sandra | 25800 comments Enjoy nature and the wedding CA, and of course Kate & Curran. LOL!

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Currently Reading: Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville, #2) by Carrie Vaughn & Frost Moon (Skindancer, #1) by Anthony Francis

Both are BSB possibilities & "Frost Moon" is a buddy read I'm doing with AH. FYI, "Frost Moon" is free at Netgalley right now. The publisher/author is automatically accepting requests, which is how I got my copy. Apparently from what AH told me, there's no expiration date, so it's like a freebie.

message 969: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I believe it is free on Amazon too ....... oh I guess not anymore. I had gotten it free from Amazon awhile ago.

Josie | 1967 comments The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting I read it today all in one go, start to finish. Just when I think that I'm going to give up on YA after some of the crap I've read (you know the ones I'm talking about...), a book comes along that reminds me why I still go to the YA section. Such a great book IMO. It kind of reminded me of the Dream Catcher series a little (but better I reckon). Chilling but sweet at the same time, a nice balance :)

So it's good? I just bought it today. Now I'm excited to read it.

Hope everyone continues to enjoy their good reads!

message 984: by Kerstin (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments LOL! I was just teasin' ya. Like I said, I really should vary my reads, but I never stray too far from the paraworld.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Finished Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers, #4) by Lisa Kleypas and Navarro's Promise (Breeds, #24) by Lora Leigh on Saturday.

Had Easter dinner with the extended family a week early on Sunday, lots of yummy food!

I have since started Deadworld by J.N. Duncan The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker (Strangely Beautiful, #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber and Weddings From Hell by Maggie Shayne . I was going back and forth between the first two, picked up WFH from the library last night and started reading the Jeaniene Frost story. I also picked up Pale Demon from the library, so now I don't know which way I'm going. LOL.

message 990: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Daffodil you are busy! Scandal in Spring is one I have on my Kindle but just haven't gotten to yet, for some reason I am not racing to read it.

@Kerstin -- thank you! I started Year of Wonders, I now realize what she lost (in terms of loved ones) and it breaks my heart. :(

Criss Cross -- is soooo good! I wish it wasn't so short though.

I cannot wait for Downside Ghosts #4. Love that series.

message 991: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments It was quite a heartbreaking story, Regina. If I remember correctly I shed a few tears.

message 993: by Anita (new)

Anita (a1momgram) Big thanks to I think its Steph and Sandra who where talking about the Tessa Adams books. I was looking for a dragon book for a chalenge and nothing was catching my eye until these. So ordered the fist one and finished it in just over a day. Could have finished in a day but couldn't help but watch DWTS ahh Maks. Dark Embers (Dragon's Heat, #1) by Tessa Adams Hidden Embers (Dragon's Heat, #2) by Tessa Adams starting the second one today.

message 994: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Anita the covers are beautiful.

So I plowed through Criss Cross (PsyCop, #2) by Jordan Castillo Price Striking Sparks (PsyCop, #2.1) by Jordan Castillo Price Many Happy Returns (PsyCop, #2.2) by Jordan Castillo Price Mind Reader (PsyCop, #2.3) by Jordan Castillo Price

I gave up on Year of Wonders due to the emotional distress factor, I can't deal with painful and tormenting death of young kids right now. But the narration was beautiful and the writing was just gorgeous. I started the audio of Dragon Bones (Hurog, #1) by Patricia Briggs and I was bored, so I deleted it off my iPhone (an overdrive checkout) and am now listening to Elantris by Brandon Sanderson and it is really good so far.

I am still reading A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin

But I need to read some netgalleys, first reads and early review from librarything books. I have these to all read for review from those three places in the next week!

Oh Mexico! Love and Adventure in Mexico City by Lucy Neville When You Dare (Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor, #1) by Lori Foster The Boys from Little Mexico A Season Chasing the American Dream by Steve Wilson Stranger Here Below by Joyce Hinnefeld

I think I will start with Stranger Here Below.

Are you feeling better Regina? It's good to see you reading again!

I've been in a terrible slump over the last week or so, and I blame Stacia Kane. Ever since I finished the Downside Ghosts books everything has seemed pale and fizzless by comparison. So I went ahead and ordered all her Megan Chase books, and started Personal Demons (Megan Chase, #1) by Stacia Kane today, and while it's VERY different so far from the DG series, it's still really good. So am a happy camper, for now.

Also finished A Mermaid's Kiss (Daughters of Arianne, #1) by Joey W. Hill a day or two ago and whew, that was one really challenging book.
