Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Us too. We are pulling out our flashlights bc the lights are flashing. Here is a picture of the storm from space

My son tried to make off with my light for my kindle in case the lights go out while he is a sleep and I had to stop him. There is a limit to what I will give up for my kids. Kinda kidding. They can have my food and water but I need to be able to read.

Sandra | 25802 comments That storm is massive!

And doesn't it look soft and fluffy from space. LOL.

message 303: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments Wow! That picture is amazing! Ya'll stay safe!

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Wow! That satellite image is awesome!

Hi Cayman Islands! I see you down in the bottom right corner...we have a date in 26 days, just as soon as I can get out from under this SNOWPOCALYPSE!

Another thing about living where I do--when you live on a dead end street with only 15 houses, in the boondocks, you're low on the totem pole for restoring power when it goes out. That's why we have a generator. I love my little Genny--she's a real peach. ;)

message 305: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25802 comments Just make sure the Cayman Islands are still there before you fly. ROFL!!

message 306: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Oh wow. I never thought about that in terms of priority.

The bizarre thing is there is alot of thunder and lightening. Settling down to read.

message 307: by Laura Lulu (last edited Feb 01, 2011 08:38PM) (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Yep, there's a priority to it--get the areas with the most people first. Then, when they say how many people are still without power, they have a lower number. When ours goes out with a thunderstorm, it's out for at least 5 hours. We had an 8 hr one and quickly got the genny after that.

And that's my other word of the day, after snowpocalypse--thundersnow. It's actually a word. They kept mentioning "thundersnow" on the forecast & I glommed onto it. When it was happening a couple hours ago, the kids & I were singing "Thundersnow!" to the tune of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck". Good times. ;)

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments Half done with Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward What a great story so far.
Started reading Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead and Night Star (The Immortals, #5) by Alyson Noel and Matched (Matched #1) by Ally Condie is waiting in the wings when done with the others

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Read Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami . As a story, eh, but beautifully written!

Finally started Jaz Parks #1. I have a feeling I'll enjoy this series :)

message 310: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments SNOWMAGEDDON! That's another word for you. I suffered from that in December, apparently we were only one more day of heavy snow-fall away from a national emergency. Love thundersnow. Stay safe, peeps :)

Kerstin | 862 comments Stay safe guys!

message 312: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Second snow day here! It is crazy.

I finished Mind Games by Carolyn Crane and really enjoyed it. I am now reading: Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber and still trying to read Lady of Light and Shadows (Tairen Soul, #2) by C.L. Wilson (it is good, it isn't the book it is me!) and re-reading Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward by listening to the audio

message 313: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Monday afternoon we got about 2" of snow followed by lots of freezing rain. Tuesday when I stepped out of the house, it looked so light and fluffy, like you would just be able to sink into it. Then you stepped out on it and didn't even leave a footprint behind, let alone sink into it. It looked like snow, but was actually ice. I told eveyone that it was like a giant snowcone. LOL. Left work early Tuesday and had yesterday off, but had to come in today. Not much happening though, phones are pretty much dead. Luckily, most of the snowfall went to the north of us. We only missed it by about 30 - 50 miles. Local news had people e-mail in nicknames for the storm. Favorite seems to be Snowzilla. Others are Snowtorious B.I.G., Snow.M.G. (it took me a minute but think OMG)

Finished: No Mercy (Dark-Hunter, #19) (Were-Hunter, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon & Cockatiels at Seven (Meg Lanslow, #9) by Donna Andrews

Read: Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh I'm with Laura-Lulu, in that I prefer her Psy-Changeling series, hence why it took me an extra year to get around to reading this. However, this was pretty stupendous. I was captivated from the moment I picked it up. I did think that the ending was a trifle anti-climatic after the tremendous build up throughout the book about the dangers of Lijuan's court. Looking forward to Consort and will try not to wait a year before picking it up. No promises though, my TBR is out of control. LOL.

Currently reading: Mona Lisa Darkening (Monère Children of the Moon, #6) by Sunny & Colters' Woman (Colters' Legacy, #1) by Maya Banks

message 314: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments The US snowstorm and the Australian cyclone made the news over here. Poor Queensland. Apparently Chicago received 20" of snow overnight! A friend living in Boston, MA said they'd received over 70" since December! That's over 5ft. Taller than me!

I'm currently reading Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez . There's zombie cows!

message 315: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments LOL @Daffodil -Snowzilla, Snowtorious B.I.G. and Snow.M.G. -Love it! I thought the ending to Kiss was anticlimactic too.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I just finished The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins and OMG... I feel like my brain has glazed over and I have been turned to mush and pulled every which way but I love it. That is what a great book does to you. My first 5 star book this year. Going to continue with the series right away. Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins is next, then Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins . After that I will continue my ARC of Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver from netgalley.

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments Yeah, Mother Nature is not a happy camper right now for sure. You guys stay safe.

Daffodil, especially, ice is 10x worse than snow. And no eating the yellow snowcones. LOL!

Glad you enjoyed HG, AV! Yay!

Just finished Scent of Shadows, a bit strange, not bad. Off to pick what's next.

Internet is down for some reason. So, no mass bingo updates at the moment. Not something easily done on my iPhone. I'll catch everyone up with stamps and such once its back up.

Sandra | 25802 comments Really jealous now, I got 6 books from BD today and guess which one wasn't among them *sigh*

message 323: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments @ Steph: I tried reading Scent of Shadows once and never made it past the opening scene. It was a library book, so I returned it when it was due without attempting to finish. A lot of people seem to like the books, so I've been thinking about giving it another go.

Still reading: Mona Lisa Darkening (Monère Children of the Moon, #6) by Sunny There's just something about this cover art that I love.

Steph (angel4492) | 32508 comments WOW! Everyone is reading such great books! Love them all.

Bummer, your postman still hasn't delivered AC, Sandra. Maybe s/he's reading it .... LOL! (PS: "Australia" is playing on AFN, made me think of you. :) Ahhhhhh, Hugh Jackman is delectable eye candy! Add the Aussie accent and I'm jello.)

Regina, I'm looking forward to starting that series. I'm assuming since you jumped into #2, you are really enjoying it.

Vivian, me too - putting off Jaz for others. Glad we have a few add'l months on that one. :)

The Scent of Shadows was definitely different. I'll continue onto #2 before deciding if I'll read the whole series or not. Kinda on the edge after #1.

I'm listening to Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning and have Archangel's Consort (Guild Hunter, #3) by Nalini Singh , which arrived yesterday sitting here calling my name. Hope to crack (figuratively, no spine cracking for me) it open soon.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I am enjoyiing the Disillusionist series. It isn't going to be my all time favorite UF series, but I am rating it high bc each book is so much fun (so far). I was explaining the premise to my husband and he thought it was the silliest thing ever. It is such an odd premise, but I am liking it so much.

Yay, Inga! Enjoy! Sad to see that series end. But, looking forward to Eternal Rider (The Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione .

message 338: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Just finished Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward . So good, I think my fav one so far, very sad in places though :'(

Just started Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane . Really excited about this one!!

message 339: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I just re-read Lover Awakened by listening to it and I loved it more the second time around.

I am temporarily giving up Lady of Light and Shadows (Tairen Soul, #2) by C.L. Wilson , I am just not in the right frame of mind and I realy don't like any of the characters. The big surprise/revea didn't excite me. So time to take a break. I hope to come back, I hate to DNF.

I am reading Claimed By Shadow (Cassandra Palmer, #2) by Karen Chance and I am listening to in audio City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare and I am supposedly also reading this book, but I may set it aside to (I must be in a foul mood or something!): Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber

message 340: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I'm still reading Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez , it's not really my kind of humour but I'm still going to finish it.

I've read Lucien's Gamble A Novella From Bad Boys Ahoy! by Sylvia Day , a Kindle freebie which involves a character from a previous freebie Catching Caroline. I lurrrrved it! 5 stars. Well worth reading.

Also read Noble Intentions (Noble, #1) by Katie MacAlister , read through the night to finish. The humour may not be to everyone's taste but I had many a laughing fit. I'm impressed with the writing especially of the dialogue. It's not perfect but 5 stars just for making me look like a hysterical mad woman whilst lmao for hours.

I agree Ames, I gave Noble Intentions (Noble, #1) by Katie MacAlister 5 stars too. People be aware that it is a historical, no paranormal content, but definitely funny.

Gave it 4 stars, no doubt you'll see the review in your feed. Was tossing up between 3.5 and 4 and decided on 4.

@ Vivian, I started Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin on 31/1 am about 50% and have read a lot of books since, I must pick it back up but it just isn't exciting me. So I do understand.
