Lori (tyme2read) Book #2 done. Sold by Patricia McCormick I give it 4 stars. It was well written. It was a hard topic to read because you know there is truth to what is going on in the world. My heart broke for this young girl many times.

ETA: Sorry forgot to put that this was for the "book in foriegn country" category.

message 102: by Kelly (new)

Kelly RAley (kraley) | 101 comments Book 2 Done. A Hole in my Life (Printz winner and male POV) was very well-written. I would recommend this book to late HS teens, at-risk teens, and aspiring writers. It does talk about drug use and a fairly brutal description of prison. I really liked it, but it does come with caveats.

message 103: by N.L. (new)

N.L. Riviezzo (nlriviezzo) 3/12 Read

Printz Stolen
New Afterlife
Series Bite Club
Debut Angelfire
ALA Stealing Heaven
On Foreign Soil Demonglass
Verse You Are Not Here 3/2 3 stars While I like verse novels a lot, I am not a fan of this author's verse style. Found the MC to be too angst-ridden and self-absorbed for the main plot to have merit. It is hard to mourn the loss of someone when one is much too wrapped up in their own head.
Male POV Invincible
Always the Bridesmaid
Historical Father of Lies 3/9 3 stars A retelling of the Salem Witch Trials, interesting but I didn't care for the author's writing style for some reason unknown, I found it awkward to read.
Paranormal Once in a Full Moon
Urban Fantasy Darkness Becomes Her 3/9 4 stars An interesting take on Greek Mythology, vampires, witches, warlocks & shapeshifters with a dystopian element. One of the best dystopian-oriented books I've read this year.

εїзÓË«V²¹²Ô±ð²õ²õ²¹Ó˫εїз Marie Alvarez (yabooksrvw) This is my list of reads for the challenge:

1. Speak (Printz winner) --- 4/5 stars
This book is so realistic it makes you think, "What if this happened to me?" I loved this book and the movie wasn't so bad either. I just wish it had a little more so it wasn't so obvious.

2. Evercrossed (published in March 2011) --- 5/5 stars
I have to say, I really loved this book. It's sad, but in a good way. Elizabeth Chandler really knows how to write good books. The whole series was good and well written.

3. Matched (Book in a series) --- 4/5 stars
This book overall was pretty good. Some parts I wish were explained a little better, but i liked it anyway. Just thinking that this is a future based book makes me wonder if something like this could actually happen. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

4. Angelfire (Debut Novel) --- 5/5 stars
I loved this book... it was so well written and it had so many action scenes that I couldn't put it down...I think out of all the books I have read I finished this one the quickest 'cause it was so good!

5. The Summer I Turned Pretty (ALA for YA) --- 4/5 stars
This was a pretty good book. I liked the story, but it felt like I knew what would happen from the very beginning. I had actually seen this book but it hadn't caught my attention all that much. If it wasn't for this challenge I don't think I would have ever read it.

6. Goddess Boot Camp (Foreign Country Setting) --- 5/5 stars
This story is set in Greece so I knew I would love it because I love Greek culture...it's a great book with a lot of drama.

7. Flirt Club (book in form of letters) --- 4/5 stars
This book is about 8th graders but I feel like they are actually juniors or seniors in high school by the things they say in there letters...but I guess thats truly how our culture is nowadays!

8. So Yesterday (Male P.O.V.) --- 3/5 stars
This was a pretty good book. It could have had a little more added to it but overall I liked it. I've read a few books in a male P.O.V. and most of them have been good. Maybe I should start reading them more often.

9. The Secret Hour (Group Pick Nominee) --- 4/5 stars
I liked this book. Well I like most of the books I read. But this book I felt went a little too fast at some parts and I wanted to know more about each of the characters. I guess if there were a few more details I would have liked it even more.

10. Lock and Key (chick lit.) --- 5/5 stars
I loved reading this book...it just makes me think about how many people actually go through the types of things the main character goes through. Out of all the books of Sarah Dessen I have read, I have to say that this one was my favorite. Her books are never disappointing.

11. Desires of the Dead (fantasy) --- 3/5 stars
I loved the first book in the series, but I felt like this one was a given from the beginning. I wish it had me guessing from the beginning, but it didn't. It's not a bad read, but I'm pretty sure it could've been so much better!

12. A Kiss in Time (fantasy) --- 5/5 stars
A retelling of sleeping beauty in modern times. I loved this book. It was a cute love story with a lot of twists compared to Sleeping Beauty.

I'll put a C next to the ones I'm currently reading
Yay, I finished my list...
3/19/11

message 105: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (snugshelf) Finished
2. Wither - Lauren DeStefano

I realllly liked this one, but looking back now, it may not have been as good as I originally thought. I definitely got really into the story though. And I can't wait to read the sequel.

message 106: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (maezyreads) Book #7 Read.

Angelfire (Angelfire, #1) by Courtney Allison Moulton

This is the authors debut novel and I really liked it. I would compare it a bit to City of Bones (Mortal Instruments). I will definitely read the next one (it is going to be a series).

4.5 stars.

message 107: by Cassie (last edited Mar 10, 2011 03:14PM) (new)

Cassie This challenge sounds exciting! I truly enjoy making lists, so this should be a lot of fun.

If you're trying to pick a book from the debut list, I would like to recommend Dirty Little Secrets. The writing is decent, but the topic is one that doesn't get touched often. And from experience, I can say that this book touches on the emotions of such a life very well. I don't know of many who have read this book, so thought I'd put that out there ;)

One other thing, is it ok to list two books in the same series?

message 108: by Cassie (last edited Mar 14, 2011 05:09PM) (new)

Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott

I liked it. Not all of it was written in letter form though. Hope it was still ok for that category.

4 stars.

Tatiana (tatiana_g) I just finished Eon: Dragoneye Reborn Eon Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman - 4 stars. Great fantasy for those who don't like them too romancey.

message 112: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (maezyreads) I made a change to my books for #10. I just can't bring myself to read Mockingjay quite yet. I just don't want the story to end. I know I'm odd. LOL

I changed it to The Agency - A Spy in The House (Mystery). A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1) by Y.S. Lee

I'm trying to read a different genre then I normally do i.e. fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal. So a mystery it is. =)

message 113: by Lori (last edited Mar 12, 2011 02:51PM) (new)

Lori (tyme2read) I just finished The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams It was another hard topic to read. I was often angry while reading this. I give this book 4 stars for being able to get my emotions so involved in the book on top of my imagination.

this books was for "ALA's Best Books for Young Adults"

I am reading books that have been on my shelf for a while waiting for me to pick them up. And, like Michelle, I am trying to read some books that aren't vampire related, lol. I tend to get swallowed up by a genre at a time.

message 117: by Lori (new)

Lori (tyme2read) Well, you will probably have it done before comint to visit next month then, lol. Though I still have lots you can read while here, lol.

message 118: by Tatiana (new)

I can't wait to read the next one. 4 stars.

Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins

Oh my!!! I LOVED it!! It was hard to remember what happened in HexHall seeing as I read it when it first came out but there are a number of reminders at the beginning. Well I think I liked this one more then the first one. Though I'm totally ticked. The ending is a cliffhanger....big time. grrrrr. LOL

I love your idea of reposting your list! I was wondering how I should go about updating and this is just perfect. Also, if you want to keep all your title links you should try copying your list while in "edit" that way all the code for the links are in the new post. :)
You can just ignore the rest of this...

Anyways, I just finished American Born Chinese which is a great graphic novel (although it's being read as a Printz Winner) that has been on my shelf for quite a while. The only problem I had with the book was my own expectations, picking it up after soaking in how praised it is and anticipating reading it for so long only ended up leaving me a little disappointed, but just a little!

Here's my current list:
1) American Born Chinese - Printz Winner, 07.
2) Steel - March
3) The Ruby in the Smoke - (Sally Lockhart Trilogy #1)
4) The Iron King (Iron Fey #1) - Julia Kagawa Debut
5) Along for the Ride - 2010 Best YA List

message 129: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (maezyreads) Ok I've finally decided what book to change to for #5. I was going to change it to Graceling but I've been wanting to read books I wouldn't normally read. So, I am going to read Along for the Ride. This will be my first Sarah Dessen book. =)

message 139: by Lori (new)

Lori (tyme2read) Well, the only good thing about my husband coming off the night shift and now snoring all night is I got another book finished!! in the wee hour of this morning I finishedImpulse which was for the book in verse part of the challenge.

I gave it 4 stars. It took a little bit to get used to the stile of of writting but I ended up really enjoying it. I liked seeing into the minds of the 3 different characters. I will definately be reading more Hopkins books.

message 140: by Debra (new)

Debra Driza (debradriza) | 11 comments Ohhh, this sounds like fun! Plus, it will motivate me to vary my reading a little more than I usually might--always a good thing.

I'll try to put together a list over the next few days. (also, this is my first post here, so if I'm doing it wrong, let me know--thanks! :)

message 141: by Michelle (last edited May 13, 2011 06:09PM) (new)

Michelle (meowchelle7) Oops, I joined this a little late! Oh well, I'll try my best!

1. Printz Honor Book: Looking for Alaska

2. New Release, May: Nocturne

3. Series Book: Where She Went

4. Debut: Choker - 4 stars. The ending really caught me by surprise. Even though some parts of this book were just gross and haunting (eh, what do you expect when the name of the book is Choker?), I still, for the most part, enjoyed it.

5. ALA's Best Books, 2005: So Yesterday - 2 stars. It was quite a weird book. Interesting characters, but barely any plot.

6. Foreign Country: The Magician's Nephew - 5 stars.

7. Written in verse: I Heart You, You Haunt Me - 3 stars. This was a cute, short read. Since it is written in verse, it goes by very quickly, but it also gives you a good message. I just felt that the majority of the book was like a broken record. Ava can't bear to be without Jackson. She misses him. It's all her fault. Repeat.

8. Male POV: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

9. Club Nomination: Ella Enchanted - 3 stars. This is a classic. It gives off an inspirational message and is a must read. I much rather prefer the movie, though.

10. Science Fiction: The Hunger Games

11. Fantasy: The Silver Chair - 4 stars. Another classic. This book is very inspiring and gives a very powerful message. I love Narnia. xD

12. Paranormal: Cryer's Cross - 5 stars. A very intriguing book. Got very addicting near the end. Very haunting...

This'll be fun!

5) ALA's Best Books for Young Adults lists. Pick any year. The Monstrumologist by Yancey, Rick.

6) Read a book set in a foreign country. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

9) Read a book which was nominated for a month's pick in our group, but never won. Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs
