message 1: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Greetings all. I am now ready to take submissions for the second group book which we hope will be out later in the year. I already have some and there are others promised so I hope it will be a great selection.

Wanted - short stories, poems, true life stories. I'll only put in recipes if I think it's a bit short but it's looking like we can go without.

Send me a PM if you have something to contribute - you don't need to be a 'real' author. New writers are welcome too. I will let you have my email address when you are ready to submit and we'll go from there.

Any questions, just ask.

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments If I had one iota of talent in my body when it comes to writing or telling stories I would gladly contribute. But sadly I don't. However if you need any other type of help in getting it all together then I will gladly volunteer myself to help in anyway I can.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Judging by who I know has promised contributions, I think we have a best seller in the works.

message 4: by Robert (new)

Robert Clear (robertclear) | 27 comments Sounds like a great idea. I'm not really one for writing short stories, but I'll be interested to read the final product.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Have you got a copy of the first anthology yet Robert?

It's really rather good.

message 6: by Kath (last edited May 29, 2012 11:42AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Darren Humphries is submitting something - he's the 'right hand man' when it comes to actually formatting it and publishing it too.
Mel Comley has a story for us.
One of the Andrews has offered one.
Amos/Cassidy are interested in writing us one.
DD has sent me a story.
I have a couple of shorts from one of our Ians (that's not how it sounds!)
Harry said he'll do us a poem. I must remind him. I don't think everyone reads this thread. We need to spread the news eh?

Submissions in by end of September should do it.

Edited because I remove my own typos so I will do it for others!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'll link to here in the morning thread, shall I?

message 8: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Aw, I liked the recipes :(

message 9: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I have plenty of satire news items and articles on my blog - is it something you would be interested in?

message 10: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm sure we would Michael.
Yes please Patti.
Maybe we can still add a recipe or two - just for Elle!

message 11: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I don't mind the extra length just for a few little recipes :D

It was fun to try them out - especially the mug cake!

message 12: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've used the syrup sponge a few times.
And studiously avoided (while laughing myself daft) Cornelius' curry recipe!

message 13: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Lol! Yeah I didn't risk the curry either :-)

If any help is needed Ignite then please give me a shout. I am no writer but if anything a else needs doing then please yell xx

message 14: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You can nag your favourite authors to produce us a little story or a poem, depending upon their proclivities! I'm sure they can't resist a requeat from you.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments What about Emma's cover talents, Ignite?

message 16: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh certainly. I'd forgotten about that. Save me looking for an oak tree to sit under with my kindle for a photo!

message 17: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I want to add something but I don't know what... Maybe something will happen between now and September that I could write about. Oh!! That gives me an idea.

Would it make the book too personal if we added wee snippets about the various get togethers we've been having. People who have met up could write a line or a short paragraph about a particular aspect of meeting someone form the group (if you know what I mean?) but keep it in the third person (is that what I mean?) that way it would advertise our group as well as making the book that little bit more special for ourselves or would it not work?

I hadn't seen the first anthology, but thanks for the link Patti!

message 19: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Yep, I am up for (and would look forward to ) looking at cover designs for the group. And in fact getting quite excited about it. I have a few projects on the go at the moment (one of which is an esaay that desperately needs finishing) and then will start bashing round some Oak Tree ideas. If the group is happy for me to do that, that is.

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Patti (Stir Crazy) wrote: "What about Emma's cover talents, Ignite?"

Thanks Patti for the recommendation :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I will try and dig up some poems, and maybe try and finish one of the shorts I have started.

Recommendation? I believe I volunteered you! Teehee!

Haha, true :-) fanks all the same x

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ah bless. I just know you'd enjoy getting your creative juices flowing, is all.

:)

Tis very true :-)

message 26: by Kath (last edited May 30, 2012 01:57AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well Emma me love, the proposed title (after a great deal of GRUKAKF silliness on the old Group Book thread, is A Splendid Salmagundi. Wikipedia says -

Salmagundi (sometimes abbreviated as salmi[1]) is a salad dish, originating in the early 17th century in England, comprising cooked meats, seafood, vegetables, fruit, leaves, nuts and flowers and dressed with oil, vinegar and spices. There is some debate over the meaning and origin of the word.[2] The French word "salmagondis" means a hodgepodge or mix of widely disparate things.

That should give you plenty of inspiration!

PS I think it was Janet that came up with that name.

message 27: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments That's amazing!!!

I love that name

message 28: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Aw, I love it :-). I will get brain storming some ideas soon. Shoot, just remembered I forgot me sketch books when moving to my friends today. Am heading back towards home later so will pick them up then!!
I really SHOULD be doing my essay though :-(

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Emma! Essay first!

Plenty of time for the cover. Then you can work on it with a clear mind and enjoy it properly.

Great title. :)

Where the heck is Janet, anyway? Did she say she was going away?

message 30: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The cover won't be needed till October Emma - get that essay done! (Pretty please!)

I don't know where Janet is Patti. I haven't got her, honest!

message 31: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Okey dokey, I will be good and get my essay done and the plaque I am designing for my local Cricket Club. Then I will be all over the Salmagundi, teehee, I already love that word though :-)

This is bugging me. I'm going to message her.

message 33: by Patti (baconater) (last edited May 30, 2012 07:49AM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Well I'm dope.

Janet is fine. :)

message 34: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Worry-worry. Patti's our mummy!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Well, yeah.

I care about you lot. :)

message 36: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ah. It's reciprocated chuck.

message 37: by Harry (new)

Harry Nicholson (harrynicholson) | 209 comments Is there a theme to the anthology? I could look into my files for something to fit.

message 38: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments No Harry. We intend it to cover just about anything. As varied as the group!

message 39: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Ignite wrote: "Ah. It's reciprocated chuck."

Is that chuck that's been deep frozen for the journey and then reciprocated when it gets to the supermarket?

... and you get a ding round the ear with?
Nope; a different one!

message 41: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've just had a wonderful poem from Harry - and he might find us another one or two. Thanks Harry.

message 42: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yay!!

This is going to be like a bumper edition. Perhaps we'll have enough to keep some over for the 3rd book.

message 43: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Jud! I love a woman with ambition!

message 44: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Ignite wrote: "Jud! I love a woman with ambition!"

I love a woman with naked ambition ... actually I don't need the ambition.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Darren you're a man of simple tastes!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm wondering if a separate poetry anthology may be warranted.

We certainly have some extremely talented poets in our group.

I admit I've never really been much for poetry in the past, but our poetry thread has astounded me.

I now get all excited when I see there has been a new post there.

message 47: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I started it to share some of my favourite 'published' poems. It kind of expanded!
I think we are better mixing them with stories. It's more like the group - a right old mixture!

Rosen offered a story too. It's really going to be good!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh yay Rosen! Love her stuff.

Yeah you're right about mixing it up, ignite.

It's really going to be fantastic, isn't it?

message 49: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I hope so!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments C'mon you.

Show some confidence!

Oh hey, been meaning to ask. How's Jenny? Please give her our love.
