Since then, the film has become one of the most financially successful midnight movies of all time and has a large international cult following. Many TV shows start their new seasons during the fall. Read a book with a word in the title or subtitle that is the same as a word in the title of one of your favorite television shows (past or present). For example, one of my favorite shows is Doctor Who, so I could read Doctor Zhivago or The Girl Who Played With Fire. Articles (a, an, the) and conjunctions (but, and, or) may not be used. Help Thread
September, October, and November are the 9th, 10th and 11th months of the year. Read a book in which the numbers in the page count, when added together, total 9, 10 or 11. For example, a book with 253 pages would equal 10 (2+5+3 = 10). General rules for determining page count of ebooks, audiobooks, and large print books apply (see rules #5 and #7). Required: State the number of pages in your post. Readers of alternative formats (ebooks, audiobooks, and large print books) must link to the mass market paperback or other edition used to establish number of pages.

September 27 is Fun and Fancy Free Day- Read a book of your choice

Help Thread
Whenever I go on a trip, I end up coming home loaded down with new books because I always experience something that I wish I knew more about.
For this task, read a nonfiction book on a subject you were inspired to learn more about on a vacation or trip you’ve taken.
The trip could be recent or long ago, and it could be a day trip or a long vacation. For example, a few summers ago I went on a short trip to Amish country in Pennsylvania. I could read The Riddle of Amish Culture. This past summer I went to the Grand Canyon so I might want to read Ranger Confidential: Living, Working, and Dying in the National Parks (because I was inspired to learn more about being a park ranger by visiting a park). I took a day trip to the beach, and got into a debate with friends about when lobsters are “in season -- I could read The Secret Life of Lobsters: How Fishermen and Scientists Are Unraveling the Mysteries of Our Favorite Crustacean.
REQUIRED: State the vacation or trip you took and its connection to the book you read.
20.2 - Rookie On Top - Barbara's task: Calling All Animal Lovers
Help Thread
I've always been an animal lover and have had pets as far back as I can remember. Dogs when I lived with my parents and cats (and fish, to entertain the cats) since moving out. I can't imagine life without my critters. Unfortunately pets don't live as long as we do and I've lost my share over the years. September 9th is National Pet Memorial Day so while you're thinking about your lost pet, choose one of the following options and read one book to bring a smile back to your face.
Required: Please state the option you chose and any other required elements when you post.
Option 1: Dogs and cats are such loving and beautiful animals. Read a book with a cat or dog on the cover. Required: Include the cover when you post.
Option 2: Didn't you ever wish that your pet could talk? Read a book where an anthropomorphic cat or dog is the main character. For example, where a cat or dog talks or generally acts human, like in Into the Wild, Dog on It, or The Art of Racing in the Rain. Required: Explain the connection if it isn't clear in the GR description.
Option 3: To a good number of people, pets are vitally important to our happiness. Read a book where the main character has a pet (cat or dog only) that is integral to the story. Required: Explain the connection if it isn't clear in the GR description.
20.3 - Best Review - Paul's task: Homage to Comic Books
Help Thread
Thanks to everyone who voted for best review ! Since the book that I reviewed was a graphic novel (the adult version of a "comic book"), I thought I would use that as the theme for this task.
Read one book from one of the two options below.
OPTION 1:
Read a non-fiction book about comic books or the comic book industry.
OPTION 2:
For this option you will need to . Read a book that matches the die roll, as indicated below.
REQUIRED: Indicate the number you rolled when you post. For options 1 and 6, be sure to include the additional required elements as well.
1. Youth [homage to Archie Comics]. Read a book where the protagonist (the main character) is in high-school or younger. Maximum age is 18 years old, but if they are still attending high school the age does not matter. For the purposes of this task all Harry Potter novels are valid.
REQUIRED: Specify the name of the protagonist and his/her age or indicate that they are still in high school.
2. Romance [homage to Romance comics, such as "Young Romance"]. Read a book with the genre "Romance" listed on its ŷ home page.
3. Science Fiction / Fantasy [homage to EC Comics and their many SF titles]. Read a book with the genre "Science Fiction" or "Fantasy" listed on its ŷ home page.
4. Humor [homage to the Dell Line of comics, such as "Little Lulu"]. Read a book with the genre "Humor" listed on its ŷ home page.
5. Mystery [homage to "Marvel Comics" (later Marvel Mystery Comics), the first title published by Timely Comics in the Golden Age]. Read a book with the genre "Mystery" listed on its ŷ main page.
6. Classic [homage to the Classics Illustrated line of comic books]. Read a book that was first published before you were born. REQUIRED: Either specify your birth year or some general statement to indicate that you were born after the publication date of the book (ex.: "I was born in the 60s" or "I was born after 1967," etc).
20.4 - Author! Author! - Sarah the Librarian's task: Family Celebrations
Help Thread
Fall is a busy time of year for my family - we have celebrations in each of the three fall months. So, in honor of my family, choose one of the following options:
1: My brother - My older brother's birthday comes first, in September. Though he is no longer with us, we still celebrate his birthday in our own special ways. He was a unique character with very special interests, including Bob Marley (the legendary reggae musician) and art (he was a phenomenal artist). To celebrate my brother's birthday, read a book featuring a main character who is either a musician (composers will work, too) or a visual artist (a painter, sculptor, photographer, etc.) - fiction or non-fiction will do.
2: My mother - Next up, in October, is my mom's birthday. My love of reading comes from her - I remember her reading a lot when I was young. For a long time, her favorite authors were Stephen King and Dean Koontz. So, celebrate with my mom by reading a book by one of these two authors - any book will do (as long as it meets general SRC requirements). Books written by Stephen as Richard Bachmann will work, too.
3: My parents - Shortly after Mom's birthday, we celebrate my parents' anniversary. This year will be their 28th. Read any book with "Romance" listed on its main genre page.
4: My father - Last but not least, we celebrate my dad's birthday right before Thanksgiving (or sometimes on Thanksgiving) at the end of November. He's a huge sports fanatic, knowing all the obscure trivia for seemingly every sport ever played. We also had a tradition of going to see the latest animated movie in theaters together on Thanksgiving day. Honor my dad by reading a non-fiction book about sports (any sport, but his favorite is baseball) OR a book with "Fairy Tales" - usually "Fantasy>Fairy Tales" - on its main genre page (since so many of those animated movies are based on fairy tales).
REQUIRED: State which option you chose when posting.
20.5 - Bigger is Better - Marscha's task: Love to Dance
Help Thread
I love ballet and I'm always looking forward to september, because that's when all the dance classes at my local dance school start again after a long summer break. So this task is ballet themed.
Choose ONE of the following options and read one book that fits the task:
Option 1: Read a book in which the main character is a dancer or a dance teacher. Example: Tapped Out
Option 2: Read a book with one of the following words in the title: ballet, dance, dancer. Plurals and possessives are fine, but no other variations allowed. Example: Dance Upon The Air
Option 3: Read a book by an author whose initials can be found in BALLET. All the author's initials have to be in the word ballet. Examples: Lora Leigh, Ann Brashares
Option 4: Read a book with a ballerina on the cover OR read a book with ballet shoes on the cover.
Example:

Required: State which option you chose, and if it isn't obvious explain why the book fits the task. If you chose a cover option please include the cover in your post.

Help Thread
Doctor Who is my favorite television show. To say that I'm obsessed with it is an understatement. The Doctor is a time-traveling alien who travels through time and space saving the world from all sorts of catastrophic bad guys and events. Next year, the show celebrates its 50th anniversary. In the show's 50-year history, the Doctor has met some amazing people and visited some pretty cool places. Your task is to choose one option from my list of favorite episodes. Trailers for each episode are provided if you click on the title of each episode in case anyone is interested.
Required: State which option you chose and include any other required information when you post.
Option 1: - The Doctor meets Agatha Christie at a garden party and we learn about what "really" happened when Christie went missing for ten days.
For this option, you can read any Agatha Christie novel, any book about Agatha Christie, or any book with "mystery" listed as a genre on its main page. Examples: Murder on the Orient Express, Duchess of Death: The Unauthorized Biography of Agatha Christie, The Hound of the Baskervilles
Option 2: - The Doctor ends up in London during the blitz in World War II and he tries to help a little boy find his mommy. Sounds great until you realize that the little boy has a gas mask grafted onto his face and all he can say is "Are you my mummy?" Its terribly creepy.
For this option, you can read any book, fiction or non-fiction about World War II or any book that was originally published in the 1940s. Examples: The Book Thief, The Diary of a Young Girl, Jeeves in the Morning
Option 3: - The Doctor visits an abandoned 51st-century library. Turns out the whole planet is a library. That's my kind of planet. The Doctor meets Professor River Song, who knows everything about him and he knows nothing about her. River Song becomes one of my all time favorite characters. And by the way, the shadows in the library eat people.
For this option, read a book with the word "river" in the title or a book that takes place on a river. Or you can read a book about books. Plurals and possessives work as will books that contain the words "River Song" or "Riversong," but no other variations are allowed. Examples: The Bridge Over the River Kwai, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Shadow of the Wind
Lists that may help out: Rivers and Books About Books As always, be wary about the lists. Not all of the books fit the task.
Option 4: - Without spoiling too much of the plot for those who haven't seen the episode and may want to, the episode is about the Doctor's "love affair" with his TARDIS. The TARDIS is his time machine/spaceship and its one of the only constants of this ever-changing show. It is a beautifully written episode by the wonderful Neil Gaiman and it makes me cry.
For this option, you can either read a book by Neil Gaiman, read a book with the word "wife" in the title, or read a book with "romance" as a genre on its main page. "Wife's" and "wives" in the title will also work, but no other variations are allowed. Examples: The Graveyard Book, American Wife, P.S. I Love You
Option 5: - "Blink" is my favorite episode of any television show ever. It is also one of the scariest episodes that Doctor Who has ever done. There are statues and when you turn away or even blink they get closer and closer to you. If they touch you, you get taken out of your time period and get put somewhere in the past. It doesn't sound like much, but ask any Doctor Who fan what their favorite episodes are and this will probably be in their top five.
For this option you can either re-read your favorite book of all time or read a book that has "horror" listed as a genre on its main page. Required: State that the book is a re-read if choosing that option.
20.7 - Shorter is Sweeter - Sam's task: The Show Must Go On
Help Thread
London has had a lot of focus in recent months with the Queen celebrating her Diamond Jubilee and hosting the 2012 Olympics. All of which has made me very proud to be a Londoner, however, one thing that seemed to be affected by the Olympics, despite London being full of tourists were the amount of people going to see West End shows. I live just 30 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the West End and I love being able to jump on the tube to go and see a musical.
So in order to celebrate London’s West End & the many fantastic musicals I am asking you to pick one of my top 5 musicals and read one book that fits that option.
Required: Please state which musical you chose when you post.
1. Wicked - I have seen this show at least 3 times now and love the twist it puts on The Wizard of Oz story. The musical is based on the book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire which has been shelved mainly as fantasy. For this option select a book that has been shelved as Fantasy on its main page.
2. The Lion King - This has always been a favourite of mine, from the songs to the costumes to the staging it gives me goosebumps every time. One line everyone must know from this musical be it from the show or the film is ‘Hakuna Matata means no worries. For this option read a book with a word in the title or sub-title of at least 3 letters, that can be anagrammed from the words HAKUNA MATATA and/or NO WORRIES. Ex: All I Want Is Everything - anagrammed word = "want" - W from worries, AN from hakuna, T from matata
Required: Please state the anagrammed word when you post.
3.Legally Blonde - I only went to see this musical as my eldest daughter was desperate to see it so I took her rather reluctantly during opening week. OMG! It was full of fun, laughter and all things pink. I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy it, let alone it become one of my favourite musicals. The main character, Elle Woods is a blonde sorority queen who goes to Stanford Law to win back her boyfriend so in Elle’s honour read a book that is either shelved as a chick-lit or as a legal thriller on its main page. These links may help you: Chick Lit and Legal Thrillers
4. We Will Rock You - I only went to see this after my daughter was chosen to play the female lead of Scaramouche in her school production. I was blown away by the whole concept of the show and how the music of Queen was used throughout. I was equally blown away by my daughter’s performance so for this option I am going to focus on my favourite songs performed by Scaramouche in the show. Please read a book where the title or sub-title features one or more words from one of the following song titles: I Want To Break Free, Somebody To Love and Who Wants To Live Forever. The words I & To cannot be used for this option.
Required: Please state which song you chose when you post
5. Miss Saigon - Unfortunately this show closed in London back in 1999 but I was lucky enough to see it a second time in its last few weeks. Such an emotional show! Lea Salonga played the female lead, Kim in the original London cast and she was born and grew up in the Philippines. As the show is set in Vietnam and Salonga is from the Philippines please read a book that is set in one the following countries: Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore or Vietnam.
Required: Please state which country your book is set in if it isn’t obvious from the books ŷ main page.

My family and I spent so much time watching the Food Network, I’m amazed I actually finished the summer reading challenge! For this challenge you will read two books. You may choose any two options, but you can't do the same option twice. In other words, any mix of task options will work, as long as you don't use the exact same option twice...so no using 4A twice, but 4A & 5A is fine.
1. Cupcake Wars (my five-year-old’s favorite he likes to play with the cupcake pans & spatula while this show is on):
A. Read a book with a cupcake on the cover.
B. Read an anthology of short stories or novellas. These can be by multiple authors or a collection by the same author. Collections of both fiction and non-fiction pieces are fine.
2. Chopped (this show makes me so tense but once I start watching, I have to see how it ends!):
A. Read a book with a knife on the cover. (Any cutting blade, including swords will work!)
B. Read a book nominated for any season of the SRC group reads that did not win. The easiest way to find the old SRC group reads nominations is to go to Polls and scroll down to see which books were voted on in the past. Required: Please state which season and category your book is from when you post.
3. The Next Food Network Star (I’m a total Justin fan!):
A. Read a book with a star (5-point star OR celebrity, but not stars in the sky) on the cover. Required: If using the celebrity option, please identify the celebrity when you post.
B. Read the next big thing by choosing a book from the following list: Most Popular Books Published In 2012 Required: In your post include what number the book was on the list when you chose it.
4. Restaurant: Impossible (my husband’s favorite, any Wednesday night activities have to be scheduled around this show)
A. Read a book with an obviously-muscled man on the cover.
B. Read a self-help book. The genre Self Help must appear on the book's main ŷ page.
5. Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives (I swear I gain weight just watching this show):
A. Read a book with bad cover art but with a rating of 3.5 or higher. A "bad cover" is pretty subjective. As long as your book cover isn't on any "prettiest book cover" lists and you could argue its case for ugliness, it should be fine.
B. Read a book about travel, a road trip, or where the main character goes on a long journey (does not have to be by car).
6. The Aarti Party (I know there are so many celebrity chef shows on Food Network, but Aarti’s my fave!)
A. Read a book with a person smiling on the cover.
B. Read a book set in Asia or by an author born in Asia. For the purposes of this task, we'll use the following list of countries: Required: If the setting is not mentioned in the the book's GR summary, please explain how your book fits the task. If the author's birth place is not stated in their GRs bio, you must include a link to an outside website that provides that information.
Required: State which options you chose when you post. For all cover options, please include the cover in your post.
25.2 - Immersednbooks's task: Sharing the Love
Help Thread
Most of the time you can read the books you enjoy and love and still complete the tasks in SRC. However, there is always the one or two tasks that make you read something you normally wouldn't. Well that happened to me in a previous season of SRC. I picked up On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta and fell in love with her books. She has now become my current favorite author. So this task is inspired by Melina Marchetta... Please pick TWO categories and read one book from each.
A. On the Jellicoe Road won the Printz Award in 2009. Please head to this list: and read a Printz Award Winner or Honor book. Required: Please state the year that the book won or was honored.
B. Melina Marchetta is an Australian born writer and most of her books are set in Australia. So read a book where the author is from Australia or the book is set in Australia. Required: Please explain if not obvious on book/author GR page.
C. Inspired by the titles of Melina Marchetta's books, read a book with the word: Road, Saving, Rock, Son, Exile, Looking, Piper, or Gully in the title or subtitle. Possessives and plurals will work, but no other variations.
D. I loved On the Jellicoe Road so much I have read it a couple times and I convinced my sister to read it. She too fell in love. Re-read a book you liked so much you convinced someone else to read it. Or read a book someone has convinced you is worth reading. Optional: Who did you convince to read it and did they love it as much as you? Was it as good as you remembered the second time? Or who recommended the book to you? Do you agree?
E. Read a book with the genre Realistic Fiction listed on the books main page. This page might help: Realistic Fiction, but remember the genre must be listed on the book's main page.
F. Read a book where a word in the title or subtitle is depicted on the cover. The picture must be of a tangible object, not a person, color or place. Required: Include the cover wehn you post and point out the title word pictured. Examples: On the Jellicoe Road has a picture of a road on the cover

REQUIRED: State which categories you chose when you post.

Help Thread
I raced Tropical Storm Isaac to finish the Summer SRC before we potentially lost power. Floridians live with one eye on the weather map during storm season! Please read two books:

Book B: Read a book which has all the letters from the word STORM in the title. You may use the subtitle, but may not use the series name. The letters may be in any order. Please indicate the letters in your post.

25.6 - Chaitra's task: Reading for the Video Game Junkie!
Help Thread
Mid fall, on 16th October, my dear husband - the video game junkie - turns 30! It's been a tradition for me ever since we've been together, to buy him video games for his birthday and then complain year-round when he plays them to the exclusion of all else. :D So, in honor of the husband's big three-oh, my task is to read through some of his favorite video games.
For this task, pick two books from two different options. You may read the novelizations of any of the mentioned games, provided you choose them from different options.
Required: Please state the options you choose. If the option involves a cover, please post the cover. If the choices are not obvious from the GoodReads description, please state the connection.

Halo 3 & Mass Effect 3: Read a non-fiction book about space -or- a fiction book which features aliens -or- read any book in a series (identified as such on ŷ) with at least three published books at the start of the fall challenge (the published books must exclude short stories/novellas published in anthologies).

I have a fun fall planned! Join me by reading one book from two of my activities listed below.
The National Bookfest: I have attended the last three of these and have found I enjoy the experience much more when I have recently read work by the authors.
Read a book written by an (Please be aware of SRC rules regarding children's books, page requirements, and early reader restrictions)
Fantasy Football: It may not be as physical as the real thing, but it is a lot of fun. Read a book with "fantasy" genre on the main page.
The World Series: Each one is different, read book #1 from a new to you series. The book must be identified as (Series title, #1) on ŷ.
My Wedding Anniversary: I am celebrating my 11th wedding anniversary, the traditional gift for which is steel or pearls and morning glories are the flower. Required: State which options you chose when you post.
25.8 -- Mstan's task: The Long, the Short, and the Diacritical
Help Thread
Read two books for this task. You can choose A+B, B+C or A+C, but not the same option twice.
*ŷ will be used to determine which category the author's name belongs to, so if his/her full name is entered on ŷ even if he/she is commonly known by his/her initials, (B) wouldn't work. Please ensure that the ŷ page for the book you read and link to in your post contains the necessary features of the author's name.
A - Read a book by an author who has a LAST name which is at least 10 letters long -- e.g. Fyodor Dostoyevsky (11). All 10+ letters must come together with no other characters or spaces in between (so hyphenated names and names like Van Lustbader would not work)
B - Read a book by an author who uses at least one initial in his/her name, e.g. M.T. Anderson, S.J. Bolton or Matthew F. Jones.
C - Read a book by an author whose name contains a , e.g. Junot Díaz, Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Åke Edwardson, Maj Sjöwall, Zoë Ferraris
Required: State which options you chose when you post.

30.1 - Ms. Anderson's task: How Do I Say This...?
Help Thread
We all know how important communication is--without it, we wouldn't have anything to read! to determine which methods of communication you're going to explore. If you roll doubles, you will do the same option twice. Remember, the 100-page rule applies to everything!
Roll 1: Talk to Me, People!
The spoken word is arguably the most obvious method of communication. Read a play. Examples: Hamlet, Waiting for Godot
Roll 2: A Picture's Worth
Early writing came in the form of cave drawings and pictographs. Read a graphic novel, an illustrated book, or a book with photographs. The 500+ page rule regarding picture books and newspaper comic strips applies. Make sure to say where the pictures are if it isn't obvious! Examples: Every Thing on It, Batman: Hush, Vol. 1, To Hell and Back
Roll 3: To Whom It May Concern
For many, many years, writing letters was the only way to keep in touch with people who lived far away. Read a book, fiction or nonfiction, that is a collection of letters. Diaries will NOT work. Examples: Ella Minnow Pea, As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child and Avis DeVoto
Roll 4: Mr. Watson, Come Here
During the 19th century, some interesting methods of long-distance communication were invented, including one we all know and love: the telephone. Read a book by an author whose initials are found in any order in B-E-L-L and/or P-H-O-N-E. Examples: Beauty Queens by Libba Bray, Sisterland by Linda Newbery. If the author uses a middle name or initial, all of their initials must be found in B-E-L-L and/or P-H-O-N-E.
Roll 5: [email protected]
We're all here communicating with each other online about something we all love: books! Because tech is awesome, read an ebook or a book that includes emails, blog/Facebook posts, or instant messages in the text. Remember--all ebooks with no print equivalent must be cleared in the proper thread! Examples: ttyl, Ophelia Joined the Group Maidens Who Don't Float: Classic Lit Signs on to Facebook, My Life Undecided
Required: Please include the link to the ebook if using that option or explain how e-communication was used in your book if it is not explained in the GR book description.
Roll 6: Roll 6: Lost in Translation
If there's a lot of ways to communicate, there are more languages in which to do so! Read a book originally written in a language other than your native tongue. If you're multi-lingual, read a book written originally in a language you don't know. Examples: The Count of Monte Cristo (French), The Center of the World (German), Death Note, Vol. 1: Boredom (Japanese)
Required: State the language in which the book was originally written and what language(s) you speak.
30.2 -- Sheila/Kathy G's task: ŷ - Good Friends
Help Thread
The two of us met here on the SRC and even though we will probably never meet in person we have become good friends. We have discovered that we have A LOT of things in common. One thing that we don't have in common, however, is our favorite book genres. Sheila likes mysteries while Kathy prefers fantasies. We have decided we would like to share our love of these genres by having you read a book from each of our 150 books to-be-read-soon lists.
For this task you will read 2 books:
Book 1: Choose a book from Sheila's 150 mystery books to-be-read-soon shelf
Book 2: Choose a book from Kathy's 150 fantasy books to-be-read-soon shelf
We hope you enjoy our task.
30.3 -- Donna Jo's Task: Back by Popular Demand
Help Thread
Find two authors who are related by blood or marriage and read a book by each author. This is not a jointly-written book. The books should have a single author--no co-authors, whether related or not. If the relationship between the authors is marriage, the marriage need not be permanent nor does the book have to have been written during the marriage. (In other words, the book(s) could have been written before, during, or after said marriage.) This list might help:

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got way too many books on my shelves at home. I’m not even sure how they all got there perhaps the book gnomes have been leaving them, or perhaps I’ve been shopping in my sleep. Anyway, I’m hoping to cross a whole bunch of them off my list during this challenge, and it occurred to me that I could start with my own task. So here’s what I did: I grabbed a random stack off my TBR shelf and chose task options to fit them.
For this task, please choose two of the options below and read one book for each. When posting, please state which options you selected. And please also note: your books don’t have be the same as mine, although you are certainly free to read one or two off my list.
1. Resistance by Anita Shreve Read a book with Historical Fiction on its main genre page.
2. London by Edward Rutherfurd Read a book with the name of a real-life place where people live in the title or subtitle. This could be a country, state, province, city, town, autonomous region, crown dependency, etc.
3. Dingley Falls by Michael Malone Read a book whose author’s first and last names begin with the same letter. Authors with middle names, initials, or hyphenated names won't work for this one. Two initials only, same letter.
4. The Magic Circle by Katherine Neville Read a book that has Adventure listed on its main genre page.
5. Sixpence House: Lost In A Town of Books by Paul Collins Read a book with Books About Books on its main genre page (can be fiction or non-fiction).
6. Three Junes by Julia Glass Read a book with a number in the title or subtitle (not series title). The number may be written out or in numerical form. Cardinal numbers only, no ordinals (so 3 will work, but 3rd won't).
7. Elfland by Freda Warrington read a Big Book (over 500 pages). General rules for determining page count of ebooks, audiobooks, and large print books apply (see rules #5 and #7). Readers of alternative formats (ebooks, audiobooks, and large print books) must link to the mass market paperback or other edition used to establish number of pages.
30.6 -- Keltie Lee's task: Reading through Disneyworld
Help Thread
This September I am going to Disneyworld for the first time. In honor of my trip I am going to let everybody read their way through the Magic Kingdom.
Pick two different lands and read a book from the corresponding genre for each option.
Option 1: Fantasyland
This one is pretty obvious, read a book that has fantasy listed as a genre on its home page.
Option 2: Adventureland
Again fairly obvious, read a book that has adventure listed as a genre on its home page.
Option 3: Frontierland
When I think about the frontier, I think about old westerns. So for this option read a book that has the word "historical" listed in one of its genres on its home page. Ex: historical fiction, historical romance, etc.
Option 4: Tommorowland
For this option, read a book that has science fiction, a genre that represents peoples different ideas for the future, listed as a genre on its home page.
Option 5: Liberty Square
Liberty Square is most known for the Haunted Mansion, so for this option read a book that has gothic or horror listed as a genre on its home page.
Option 6: Main Street
For this option, you get a freebie of sorts. Read book that is considered fiction, because that is the main genre people read. For this one, fiction does not need to appear as one of the genres listed on the book's home page, but the genre non fiction CANNOT be listed as a genre.
Option 7: Toontown Fair
Even though this land is recently closed, I would still like to remember it. Toontown is the most youthful land in the Magic Kingdom, so read a book that has Young Adult listed as a genre on its home page.
Required: State which options you chose when you post.
30.7 -- Sassafrass's task: Title Train
Help Thread
For this task, you are going to read two books. The last word in the title (no subtitles or series titles) of the first book must match the first word of in the title of the second book. Plurals and possessives are ok but no other variations count. You can either count articles (a/an/the) or not, however it works better for you.
For example: You could read Cutting for Stone and Stone of Tears
or
You could read Mothers and Other Liars and The Liars' Club (ignoring article, plural/possessive)
30.8 -- Laurie ME's task: Fall Holidays
Help Thread
Chose from two (2) different options and read one book for each of your choices. Books can be either fiction or nonfiction.
1. Mayflower Day (September 16): Read book about the Mayflower or another ship (such as the Susan Constant, Godspeed, or Discovery) during the same time period (the 1600s) that helped transport the New World settlers from the ‘Old world to the ‘New; or, read a book about someone immigrating from a country that is separated by an ocean from the country they are relocating to (so the Carribean to America, Europe to Australia, or India to America would work but Canada to the US or Europe to Asia would not). Examples: Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War, Life of Pi, Netherland, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Interpreter of Maladies
2. Miniature Golf Day (September 21): Read a book about golf (miniature or otherwise). Golf can be the major focus of the book or can be in the background. 3. Wear Something Gaudy Day (October 17): Read a book with a brightly colored cover. There should be at least 3 bright, brilliant colors on the cover and bright colors should make up a majority of the cover.
Ex:

5. Look for Circles Day (November 2): Read a book with a circular object (not letters or numbers) on the cover. The whole circle doesn't have to be depicted, but enough so that the circle can be seen. Required: Include the cover and state the circular object when you post.
6. King Tut Day (November 4): Read a book about a King, an Egyptian, or a mummy; or a book set in Egypt; or a book about an Egyptologist, archeologist, or anthropologist. Ex: Crocodile on the Sandbank, The Mummy, Submerged: Adventures of America's Most Elite Underwater Archeology Team, Henry VIII: The King and His Court

Some of us dressed up, some of us didn't, but it was a lot of fun and it's when my husband and I first decided to start dating. We have been married for 21 years and 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' holds a special place in our hearts, and Halloween is a favorite holiday in our house.

When I was in Europe last year an American fellow-tourist asked me why so much was heard about Sydney and so little about Melbourne. So, to redress the balance, let’s take a tour of Melbourne. The is a free bus which stops at 13 locations in and around the city.
Read one book each from 2 different stops. Preferred: Because the bus is free, try to read only books you didn’t pay for for this one (books you borrowed, got as a gift, or were free downloads, for example).
Required: Please state the two stops that you chose when you post.
Stop 1: Arts Precinct
Read a play. Standard SRC 100+ pages rule applies, but you may read more than one play to meet page requirements.
Stop 2: Federation Square
The tourist information centre is here so get some information by reading a non-fiction book.
Stop 3: Sports Precinct
This is the stop for the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) where they play cricket and Australian Rules football, AAMI Park where they play soccer, rugby league and rugby union and Melbourne Park where they play tennis and netball.
Read a book about one of these sports or which features someone who plays one of these sports (fiction or non-fiction).
Required: If the ŷ summary of the book does not include a mention of the sport, please explain the connection.
Stop 4: Chinatown Precinct
Read a book set in China or in Chinatown of any city.
Stop 5: Melbourne museum and Carlton Gardens
Dig up a fossil by reading a book that has been on your TBR list for too long.

Stop 11: William Street

These streets are Spencer, King, William, Queen, Elizabeth, Swanston, Russell, Exhibition, Spring, Flinders, Collins, Bourke, Lonsdale and La Trobe. Read a book with one of these street names in the author’s name. Variations are allowed as long as the entire street name can be found intact in the author's name. Ex: Kingson, Williams, etc.
Stop 12: Southbank and Yarra River
This stop is on Queen’s bridge. Read a book with a bridge on the cover or the word ‘bridge in the title, subtitle, series name or author’s name. I will accept variations but all of BRIDGE must be included.

5.9 - Colder AND Bigger!
Help Thread
When water freezes, it expands in volume by 9%. Read a book that is ninth in a series, contains the number 9 in its title, or has a nine in the total number of pages.
For the series option, the book must be listed on ŷ as 9th in a series.
For the title option, either the numeral 9 or the word Nine will work. You may also use "9th" or "Ninth" as the title word. However, you cannot use other numerals/number words that include nine - for instance, 99 Coffins: A Historical Vampire Tale would NOT work.
For the page number option, this refers to the actual number 9 in the number of pages, not to the sum of the digits in the page number. A book with 259 pages would work, but a book with 333 pages would not. Required: State the number of pages in your post. Readers of alternative formats (ebooks, audiobooks, and large print books) must link to the mass market paperback or other edition used to establish number of pages. See Book Formats and Page Numbers Explained in Rules of the Challenge .
