I suppose I shall start with our lovely protagonist and resident faerie expert, Emily Wilde. I LOVED Emily. I find it so unique and interesting that she is the expert, as opposed to being clueless or entirely new to the world of faeries. She is dedicated to her work, and the author SHOWS us just how much that affects other areas, like her social life, etc. Also, this might seem like a silly detail, but I really appreciated that she was made to be 30 years old, an age that one could conceivably be an expert in any given subject. Sometimes, the 16 year old battle strategist or expert (better than any adult in her field) is just a little too far fetched for me personally.

WENDELL FREAKING BAMBLEBY. Where do I even begin talking about this man?? He鈥檚 FUNNY wow I was laughing out loud every time he spoke. His mannerisms were hilarious and he complemented Emily鈥檚 temperament PERFECTLY. He is a fantastically written character, adding so much levity and humor to the rigid quiet of Emily Wilde.

Oh GOD THE BANTER!!! Every moment of dialogue between Emily and Wendell had me riveted. Their friendship and working relationship was so fun to read and it played so naturally into an eventual romance. The chemistry was delicious and I can鈥檛 wait to see how their relationship develops further.

And I haven鈥檛 even gotten to the story itself yet, which was, of course, FANTASTIC. I could visualize every detail of the setting she described in vivid detail, from the snow covered mountains to the glistening lakes, so I was fully absorbed in the setting of the story. The world of faeries was so rich and it truly felt as though we were on this journey of discovery with Emily. I also appreciated the footnotes and references to faerie lore throughout the book.

This was an absolutely wonderful story鈥� my annotations of the book are excessive, particularly where the 鈥渇unny鈥� tags are concerned. I don鈥檛 know how I鈥檓 going to survive the wait until the next book. ...more "
