"reading this in our current moment feels way too real. that 'interrogation' scene gone so effortless downhill, unnoticed until way too late, was chilling. enjoying the setup of the premise so far." Apr 16, 2025 02:43PM

"my favourite wuxia story/pairing. my Chinese isn't nearly solid enough to read wuxia novels but paired with a dictionary and my immense familiarity of this story (I have watched the '95 version countless times growing up), hopefully that will be enough to allow me to tackle this. i've owned this series for years now. maybe 2025 will be the year - it's going to take a lot of work." "admittedly i did start a chunk of this on the train ride back yesterday but - there's still a lot of this to be considered a 2023 read, esp bc my pace has slowed down tremendously. this is my own copy for yrs, only reading now. always a timely topic with the culture of this sport. hockey being the hope + life blood of the town is done v well, nervous for the inevitable fallout. I want Amat to be okay." Jan 01, 2023 09:28AM

Hanya Yanagihara
“...things get broken, and sometimes they get repaired, and in most cases, you realize that no matter what gets damaged, life rearranges itself to compensate for your loss, sometimes wonderfully.”
Hanya Yanagihara, A Little Life

Arundhati Roy
“That's what careless words do. They make people love you a little less.”
Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things

Catherynne M. Valente
“I will not let her speak because I love her, and when you love someone, you do not make them tell war stories. A war story is a black space. On the one side is before and on the other side is after, and what is inside belongs only to the dead.”
Catherynne M. Valente, Deathless

Virginia Woolf
“I am rooted, but I flow.”
Virginia Woolf

Jane Austen
“I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan. Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others. Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice, indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men. Believe it to be most fervent, most undeviating, in F. W.

I must go, uncertain of my fate; but I shall return hither, or follow your party, as soon as possible. A word, a look, will be enough to decide whether I enter your father's house this evening or never.”
Jane Austen, Persuasion
