"If someone from LA says the went to Joshua Tree and saw the same nonnative owls in a canyon on repeat and there may have been 3 or 2 (or who knows how many!?) of them flying around, take everything after with a grain or two or two thousands of salt. Especially if they leave the hike super happy after talking about the end of the world, and they don’t know why! Ugh. Reminds me of some people I’d like to forget." Feb 18, 2021 08:54PM

Albert Camus
“To be happy, we must not be too concerned with others.”
Albert Camus

Ousmane Sembène
“Real misfortune is not just a matter of being hungry and thirsty; it is a matter of knowing that there are people who want you to be hungry and thirsty”
Ousmane Sembène, God's Bits of Wood

Erica Jong
“There is nothing fiercer than a failed artist. The energy remains, but, having no outlet, it implodes in a great black fart of rage which smokes up all the inner windows of the soul. Horrible as successful artists often are, there is nothing crueler or more vain than a failed artist.”
Erica Jong, Fear of Flying

John Updike
“You do things and do things and nobody really has a clue.”
John Updike, Rabbit, Run

Paulo Coelho
“Playing the part of a charitable soul was only for those who were afraid of taking a stand in life. It is always far easier to have faith in your own goodness than to confront others and fight for your rights. It is always easier to hear an insult and not retaliate than have the courage to fight back against someone stronger than yourself; we can always say we're not hurt by the stones others throw at us, and it's only at night - when we're alone and our wife or our husband or our school friend is asleep - that we can silently grieve over our own cowardice.”
Paulo Coelho, The Devil and Miss Prym
