""Ivan, and the labor camp, where women had become old at thirty, had formed within her a hatred of age, a terror of that inescapable fate overtaking her own body, her own mind. Old people had consciences, and complexes, and they feared the future, because annihilation was rushing upon them."" — Feb 02, 2025 10:38AM

"Interesting picking this up and reading this around the when the dramatic film about the 1972 Munich Olympics hostage situation, from the eyes of the sports new team who got it live, is being released. I saw a screener for it. And this book mentions it as a learning exercise for Metropolitan Police in London for preparing for such an occurrence and in going about negotiations here. Also, as a parallel to Tehran." — Jan 16, 2025 01:19PM

“With our defenses down and our civilized propriety turned off while we slept, he thought, our demons came out and romped around, revealing our desires. Then came early neuroscience, which took out all the dark and naughty romance of psychoanalysis and replaced it with the cold no-nonsense attitude of the physical workings of the brain.”
