It still brings a whimsical style to a light academia setting full of magic, action and friendship, along with plenty of new characters to love and hate.

The new protagonist is Haruko Tanaka, a tech girl and gamer that desperately wants to be a magical girl and change her dull country. When she鈥檚 offered that chance and enters a school for kids with magic, she finds herself wrapped up in a world full of adventure missions, friends and enemies, and much more! I love Haruko, she starts out shy, but slowly breaks out of her shell, doing her best with a growing determination to improve her bland country. She鈥檚 very much a magical girl lead, binding her group of friends to not give up, even when things look bad. I really loved Suvi, June, and Nyx, all with distinct personalities and backstories, all mixing together into a perfect cupcake as they bond together. Not to forget the adults and teachers who guide the group along the way, as well as the enemies, fleshed out as well.

The story moves along at a steady pace, with the school being a constant setting, there are several segments that take the story across the country, and kept me on my toes as I wondered what was next. The world building gets expanded, exploring a side of the Regime that was mostly out of view in the first two books of The Dream Chronicles, showing that things aren鈥檛 exactly as they seem at first. The prose is easy to read, with some sense of lyricism as we explore this other side of the story.

While this is book three of the series, this is a good starting point for The Dream Chronicles, with Haruko taking the lead, and it鈥檚 also great for those that have read Awakening Dreams and Shattering Silence, and important for the series as it leads into the finale of the series.

Really enjoyed this adventure and a great starting point for new readers and adds complexity for returning readers. Highly recommended for both Middle Grade and Young Adult readers.
