really liked it
This novella was difficult to read, not in the sense that it was hard to follow or poorly written, but because a lot of the things Amiko does are so absurd, particularly towards her mother and Nori; and the most painful thing is that she does some of these things with love and good intentions, but because she doesn’t understand unspoken social rules, she sends the completely wrong message and upsets the people she cares about further. I’ve seen comparisons of Eto Mori’s COLORFUL to a favourite novel of mine, Mizuki Tsujimura’s Lonely Castle in the Mirror, as well as comparisons of Makoto to Houlden Caulfield. I’ve never read Catcher in the Rye in its entirety, so I can’t make any comments on that count, but I can see some similarities with Tsujimura’s beautiful novel.
