it was amazing
Sometimes, novels that are made up of many short stories don't work. The connections never hold. The lines are tenuous. With North Woods though, the through line is the woods, a beautiful valley in Massachusetts that so many called home. Also, by moving through the generations and different owners, the stories of the past effect the present. It's not just a story that ends, but a story that informs the next one. Holy shit, this is a stupid book. And not even stupid-funny. It’s stupid-tiresome. Like if you need to follow your book title with “a comedy,� then maybe it’s not funny. Maybe if it were funny, people would laugh when they read it and be amused.
