I had the story, bit by bit, from various people, and, as generally happens in such cases, each time it was a different story.

the most heartbreaking thing about this book is that ethan is only 28 years old... 28! !!!

the way people go on about how dark, dreary and depressing this book is, i was expecting something awful... call me crazy but i actually really like this so far! the writing is beautiful and i think the characters and storyline are pretty interesting.

edith wharton's writing is beyond beautiful, it's expressive and exquisite. on a hot summer day in texas, i can almost feel the dreary coldness of starkfield.

I figured I'd read this pretty little thing before my new Forster books arrive this weekend (Howard's End and Where Angels Fear to Tread) since I know I'll want to read one of those right away.
I see mixed reviews for Ethan Frome but it's my first Edith Wharton novel, so I hope I like it.
