Although a slow start, I have grown a connection to most of the characters now, but not all of them. Louise Erdrich's writing is beautiful with sprinkles of humor that helps distract the reader from the sadness of the story. And there is a lot of that. The story is heavy with this lingering sadness that seems to permeate everyone and everything. It is like a toxin you can't see or smell...

It took me until 30% to begin to connect with this story, and I think I may need to read that portion again to truly understand more about these characters. Who, by the way, I'm having serious connection problems with. Maybe there's one character I like. OR do I just feel incredibly sorry for her?
