it was believed that [frigidity] occurred far less among "uncivilized races." .. a convenient position aligning with racist stereotypes of an insatiable "savage" sexuality� Also inseparable from this are white anxieties about "race suicide.".. Not only was frigidity a threat to "civilized" white society, but also to the promise of continued racial dominance, and it therefore warranted pathologization.

Roubaud became concerned with how frigidity would be treated by medicine. As he and many others understood it, those diagnosed with frigidity needed to be persuaded to adopt "normal" desire and sexual habits, by whatever means this persuasion required. In Roubaud's advocacy, we can see the seeds of what would eventually develop into conversion therapy.
