Allie Riley I've not even tackled it once. Is it as difficult as they say?

Paul Short answer: yes! (In my opinion.) But I've read it through at least 4 times, and, for what it's worth, I wrote a short blog post with suggested guidebooks to use to help unpack the text. For it is a brilliant work. . Good luck!

Kris Allie, I agree wholeheartedly with Paul. It's an amazing book, and there are so many different ways you can approach it. The language is amazing - anyone who loves words can connect with the text. I used The New Bloomsday Book: A Guide Through Ulysses and Ulysses Annotated: Revised and Expanded Edition my first time reading it -- I think even just pairing Blamires with Ulysses is a good approach.

Jan C I agree with Kris on New Bloomsday and the Annotated. They were well worth the expenditure. And I read it with a group from the local library.

Kris We do have a group read of Ulysses just underway at /group/show/... if you'd like to join in!

Ken Isn't there a new version of this? (Seems there's ALWAYS a new version of this, though.)

Kris I haven't heard of one, Ken, but I could easily have missed it.

Czarny Pies Joyce worked on the French translation of Uysses for over 5 years. The French translation might he considered the last thing did on the novel.

Thanks, Kris. I just joined. Now all I have to do is find where my book is.

Oh, yeah. I read about the French translation:
