Didn't get as much reading done on holiday as hoped - but lots of thoughts on this book so far :-)

Truly, a flawed but fascinating novel. Ambitious, original with a distinctive style - but some glaring weaknesses too. I've enjoyed it a lot - but it's also driving me crazy! Desperately needed a good editor :-)

Lots of elements in play, but in danger of becoming disjointed...

A hard-edged, oppressive, military sci-fi, with some sharp ideas and a whole platoon of questions to be answered already...

Adam Welcome back. "Didn't get as much reading done on holiday as hoped." I'd take that as a sign that you had a good holiday and I hope that you did. I would feel immensely guilty if my book got in the way of that.

It was only a mini-holiday. We spent Sat/Sun at my wife's grandparents - Sat was my son's 1st b'day and Sun was his Christening. Then we went down to my parents for Mon-Fri to see friends & family. Because the weather was so good we did a lot of long walks in parks and such - was brilliant!

Generally, very nice and busy time, just didn't get much chance for reading! I'd thought I might have at least an afternoon or evening to just kick back with a book, but there were far too many people who wanted to see us (and the birthday boy) for that - which is lovely, don't get me wrong.

Nice to be home, though :-)
