He [Podalirius] applied a formenting salve to the suppurating foot. The moment the preparation touched the wound, it foamed and fizzed. Philoctetes screamed and fainted. When he awoke, his foot was whole and the pain gone.

In retrospect it seems a little harsh to exile Philoctetes on Lemnos for ten years(!) because of said wound. Or maybe you just had to wait that long for a doctor's appointment back then.
