Been reading too mainstream lately, man! Thought I'd go with something no one else seems to be reading atm.

Update #1: Nearly dnf'd it before I started 'cos it was so hard to get the first volume out of the tightly packed box set. Man, they really jammed 'em in there!

Update #2: Anyone know how to stop my non-review from popping up every time I update?

'One of the most terrible moments in a boy's life [...] is when he discovers his father and mother are human beings who share a love that he can never quite taste. It's a loss, an awakening to the fact that the world is here and there and we are in it alone. The moment carries its own truth; you can't evade it.'

This quote is probably overshared at this point but my care factor is minimal. Iconic:

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

He tells us "The vision of time is broad, but when you pass through it, time becomes a narrow door." And always, he fought the temptation to choose a clear, safe course, warning "That path leads ever down into stagnation."

Added physical to audio now. It's just too good!

Loving this on re-read! Probably wouldn't recommend the audio if it's your first time but if you're already familiar with the story, it's great! Trying to fathom why I would've dropped a star last time... At this point, I'm thinking past me must have been a real star-pinching Scrooge!

1. ...the Baron noted the line of [Lady Fenring's] neck - a truly lovely flowing of muscles - like a young boy's.
I really hope this feral dies a slow and painful death!

2. Count Fering turned to his lady, said: "Ah-h-h-um-m-m, a resourceful um-m-m-m young man. Eh, mm-m-m-ah, my dear?"
A whole chapter putting up with this blabbering idiot. How do you even voice that? Painful to read!

"The Fremen were supreme in that quality the ancients called "spannungsbogen" - which is the self-imposed delay between desire for a thing and the act of reaching out to grasp that thing."

So.... 'The Fremen had impeccable self-restraint'
Word economy is everything.

Raviteja Good luck Jonathan!
I dnf'd it last year after pushing myself through the first part. I plan to resume it next week and finish it before the movie comes out.

Rebecca Hey! Don't copy me!! "Thought I'd go with something no one else seems to be reading atm" LOL ๐Ÿ˜‚
Updates 1 and 2 are already looking promising.. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Jonathan O'Neill Thank Ravi! Weren't feeling it when you last read it? Look forward to having you on board the Dune train, mate! Choo choo!! ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿš‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Jonathan O'Neill Sorry Rebecca! Some odd person peer-pressured me into reading it! ๐Ÿ˜ I thought I had more willpower but clearly not!
Re: The updates. Plenty more idiocy where that came from ๐Ÿ˜…

Tracey Oi loads of people are reading it on book tube channels I follow. Enjoy it. ๐Ÿค“

Tracey Ahh I see being facetious. Read it and remember Fear is the mind killer...

๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„

Isabella Ah yes, the book I loved and hated at the same time ๐Ÿ˜‚. If there is one book I still cannot decide my opinion on, it's absolutely this one

Jonathan O'Neill Yeah, Tracey, just the usual frivolous, idiotic nature of my updates. Thanks! Enjoying it so far and already came past that fantastic quote! :)

Jonathan O'Neill Isabella, this kind of manic to-ing and fro-ing between like and dislike isn't healthy, I hate to see you like this! Hence, I think you'll require re-read!

Nataliya I read it last year, thinking the movie would be coming out then. So that was quite mainstream :) Now with the movie actually coming out, Iโ€™m afraid itโ€™s even more mainstream, my friend ๐Ÿ˜†

Amrita Goswami I haven't reread this in years! I barely remember it; maybe I'll join you in this flouting of mainstream reading ๐Ÿ˜

Raviteja Jonathan wrote: "Thank Ravi! Weren't feeling it when you last read it? Look forward to having you on board the Dune train, mate! Choo choo!! ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿš‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚"

I found it very draining. Reading some 15 minutes made me put the book down and do anything other than reading for the next hour. It felt very hazardous for my reading habit.

This time, I hope to fare better. Would be glad to join you in the Dune train XD

Jump on board, Amrita! There's room for eeeveryone on the Dune Hype Train! *Sings "[We're] on the [hype] train!" in whiniest Axl Rose voice possible* ๐Ÿ˜„

Hope you fair better this time, buddy! :)
