Rhysand being the foil to Tamlin is a bit heavy handed right from the beginning lol It’s clear SJM wants us to see there is very clear differences between the two and she does kinda force you to root for Rhysand. The parallels between the two are quite interesting tho.

I remember when this first came out a lot of ppl trashed how SJM fucked over Tamlin’s characterization to make it easier to like Rhysand but honestly? It’s not much different than the Tamlin we see in ACOTAR it’s just that now he doesn’t have to hide anything to get out of the curse.
