I don't know. My publisher does my advertising. Best to write the best book you can possibly write and write because you LOVE writing. The rest will come.

Ask the students if another person has ever been unkind to them. Then ask if they've ever been unkind to someone. If the students are honest, all hands will go up with each question. At some point, all of us are Chloe or Maya. So Chloe and Maya are both based on all of us. I think Chloe looks more like my son when he was young than like me! xoJacqueline

Envy and doubt are two of a writer's worst enemies. The children's book writing world is small and the world of children's book writers of color is even smaller -- hence, we all need to support each other.My hope is that I'm writing now to make a way for your stories later -- So write them! I'm not working on anything right now. Brown Girl Dreaming took over three years and more than 31 revisions (I stopped counting!) Right now, I'm happy to be a good mom and partner and just be in the here and now for a while.
