Dear Jacqueline, recently i read the book "beneath the meth moon" and i really enjoyed it. I am a translator from a country that is not a member of Bern convention so unfortunately copy right means nothing . I am very interested to translate this story in order to give some role model to young people. so it would be grateful if you could give me a permission for translating this great story. Hello, I'm visiting your Authors Page after reading 'beneath a meth moon', and I want to say thank you for this story. I was wondering how did you get into Laurel's head and heart so intimately? Everything is so deeply felt, Laurel really came alive for me. Also, what's the recommended age for this book? Looking forward to discovering your other books!
Jacqueline Woodson Thank you -- I got there through lots of research and lots of rewriting. The book is recommended for ages 12 and up. Thanks for reading it.

Jacqueline Woodson I don't know. My publisher does my advertising. Best to write the best book you can possibly write and write because you LOVE writing. The rest will come.

Hello! I'm a librarian in Sofia, Bulgaria. We are using your books "The other side" and "Each kindness" to help facilitate discussions about friendship, doing the right thing, being inclusive, etc. The students have really enjoyed both books. And in "Each kindness" they were wondering if the little girl Chloe was based on yourself when you were a young girl? They thought Chloe looked a lot like you!
Jacqueline Woodson Ask the students if another person has ever been unkind to them. Then ask if they've ever been unkind to someone. If the students are honest, all hands will go up with each question. At some point, all of us are Chloe or Maya. So Chloe and Maya are both based on all of us. I think Chloe looks more like my son when he was young than like me! xoJacqueline

I've followed your career for years. When I was first starting out as an author, I'd see your stuff and I was so envious. "Who is this ol' Jacqueline Woodson, anyway?" I've learned exactly who she is and I've grown up enough as a writer to know it is better to feel inspired than envious. I hope to honor the legacy you've created for fantastic, meaningful story telling about girls of color.
Jacqueline Woodson Envy and doubt are two of a writer's worst enemies. The children's book writing world is small and the world of children's book writers of color is even smaller -- hence, we all need to support each other.My hope is that I'm writing now to make a way for your stories later -- So write them! Finish them!! Make them fabulous! The world is waiting! x

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Jacqueline Woodson I love everything about being a writer. Right now, the best thing is winning the National Book Award and being able to work in my pajamas!

Congratulations on winning the NBA award! What comes next for you?
Jacqueline Woodson I'm not working on anything right now. Brown Girl Dreaming took over three years and more than 31 revisions (I stopped counting!) Right now, I'm happy to be a good mom and partner and just be in the here and now for a while.
