The Summer Book Club Introduces The Wanderer's Mark

I stood on my sister's porch, waiting for her to open the door. She had finished reading the drafts of The Queen's Gambit and The Ruby Prince. and I was here to deliver the rest of the tale. Pressed against my chest, I had the printed pages of The Wanderer's Mark. When she answered the door, I handed her the pages and said, "Good luck."
And so we begin The Wanderer's Mark. (On sale !)
While The Ruby Prince surprised me, I don't know if and how I could have been prepared for the journey...

Pitch blackness lay before them. There was no moon to light the waves of the desert. But Zarbadast shone out of the darkness—a living, breathing creature—with lights tucked among the shadows, looking like coals from a fire that had once covered the world... It made Zarbadast look like a mystery, a mesmerizing mystery...

Map of the Imirillian Continent
I posted the Aemogen map last week, so I thought it would be good to post the map of the entire continent.Seeing it makes one realize that Aemogen is going up against an almost impossible foe. But fate does not turn on sheer might alone, so we will see how The Ruby Prince and The Wanderer's Mark unfold...

Fun fact about this map: it is mostly correct. The names and places certainly are, and the proportions of the nations, but the ancient cartographer who put pen to paper miscalculated a few...

The Summer Book Club Introduces THE RUBY PRINCE
There are spoilers in this post!!! If you have not read The Queen's Gambit, you can find it .

Irony is the province of every culture, Your majesty, Basaal said, his voice turning sharp. “Not just of one’s own.
There is not a moment for breath between the ending of The Queen's Gambit and the beginning of The Ruby Prince. The final chapter in Gambit and the first chapter in Prince are simply two pieces of the same scene. You hit the ground running. Eleanor has managed to win the game...

Queen's Gambit Book Club Wrap Up

1} "Where did the idea for The Queen's Gambit come from?"
When I was sixteen, I was sitting in Mr. Clark's geology class with my writing notebook open and I wrote the words The Queen's Gambit. With that came the image of a young queen standing on a castle tower. And I knew that I would write a book with that title someday. For for over a decade I wrote other stories. Then, around 2010 (I think...?) she was there. The young queen on the tower.

This is a picture of that notebook, and my early...

Soundtrack for The Queen's Gambit

I often write, walk, think, and drive to music. This spills over into my writing, and so most of the books I'm working on have their own playlist. Some of these songs become part of the soundtrack while I am still in the first draft. Some find their way in while I am writing the second, or third, or even the seventh. A few come afterward. All of the songs either match a scene, or a setting,an emotion, or the intangible ties between characters. Maybe this is the soundtrack for you. Maybe i...

Map of Aemogen
If you've been reading The Queen's Gambit with the book club, you might now be on the battle run, so I thought it was a good time to post the map!

This map would be found in monarch's personal records on Ainsley Rise, and at the beginning of Queen's Gambit would be around ninety years old. I imagine that when Eleanor is working out matters of state (when she isn't in the garden) that she gazes at the fens on this map.
As far as the modern day creation, I sketched the map of Aemogen on 40lb w...

A Queen's Gambit Pinterest Board
I put this together over the weekend, images that remind me of The Queen's Gambit. Because pictures, pictures, pictures. And now that I'm back in the Pinterest game, I'll be adding more to it over time...

I do have an image that reminds me a bit of Wil Traveler, but I haven't put it on because I can't decide if it's too specific or not. (You know? Each reader had their own character and no imag...
