The Shadow Rider Re-Read Wrap-up

description

I’m doing series preparing for the release of on Mary 5th. I invited readers to join me and wanted to talk about my experience, invite you to talk about yours and do a general wrap-up of the Shadow Rider re-read before I start reading Shadow Keeper.

Reading one of my books is like visiting an old friend. With Shadow Rider I love the feeling of family and community. I put so much into the research and set-up of the Ferraro family, knowing they would have a sort of mafia feel, but they’re not mafia. And I knew they would have to be a tight-knit family because of what they do.

I come from a big family so creating the closeness and camaraderie between the siblings was one of my favorite things when writing Shadow Rider. Going back to read the book again I’m still pleased with how the family came together, with Stefano at the helm and the complexities that cause them to rely so much on each other in so many ways.

My top three favorite scenes in Shadow Rider are-

#1. The very first scene when he sees her and they first interact. I love how they were both true to themselves and especially loved the chemistry they have.

#2. I love when all the family, including the cousins, come to hear her out and she realized they are there for her. The family would protect her. SHE was part of the family now.

#3. I really loved the scene in the nightclub with Francesca and Emme. Those three horrible women accost Francesca in the bathroom and Emme comes in all badass and puts them in their place. She stuck up for Francesca and that meant something to Francesca. Then, Val comes in and Francesca can see that something about Val makes Emme feel vulnerable and Francesca is there to support Emme.

This is part of the reason I love doing the Kindle Notes & Highlights. I get to see what scenes or sentences the readers liked. You can see all ten of the reader-chosen passages and my notes about writing those passage HERE

Here are the top three on Kindle Notes & Highlights. Be sure to go and read my behind the scenes explanation of the passage or feelings about the passage and the comments from readers!

My Kindle Notes & Highlights
Shadow Rider (Shadow Riders, #1)
by Christine Feehan

PASSAGE #1
The door opened and a blast of cold air swept into the shop, chilling her further. She turned her head and froze. She had never in her life seen a man more gorgeous or more dangerous. He was tall, broad-shouldered, tough as nails and totally ripped. His hair was jet-black and seemed messy, but artfully so, as if even it refused to disobey him.

PASSAGE #2
“Buy some shoes and wear the fucking coat. Put him in a good mood for a change.

PASSAGE #3
Former Shadow Riders often took jobs as greeters when they retired because all were born with the ability to detect lies.

What are your favorite scenes in Shadow Rider? Did you do the re-read with me?

Lethal Women: Amaryllis and the GhostWalker Women

Some women are born warriors. Some become warriors. Without a doubt the series has a lot of very strong, courageous, intelligent women that I am proud of.

description

Did you know there are three types of female “GhostWalkers? There are those who are soldiers and were physically enhanced just as their male counterparts were. Marigold “Mari Smith is a sniper who was forced into Whitney’s breeding program. She started out as a soldier. So did Jaimie Fielding and Rhianna Bonds.

Some were orphans who Whitney did experiments on like Lily, Flame, Briony, Tansy, Zara, Shylah and even Violet.

Some were created in the laboratory like Bellisia, Pepper, Cayenne and others. They were genetically altered and had their DNA spliced from different animals or even insects.

description

These are just examples, each woman has her own story, but fits into one of these categories.

Regardless of where they came from or how they got into the program, each has her own set of abilities and is just as dangerous as any of the male GhostWalkers.

Amaryllis was one of Dr. Whitney’s orphan girls who he’d spliced a variety of DNA into. Her ability as a healer was unusual and a great gift and made her a target. She had to make some hard decisions in order to save herself. It took courage. It took stealth. She had to be self-reliant. All just to escape Whitney. Being around Malichai, loving him, put her in danger. She had to decide for herself if that danger was worth staying with him. Everything about being with Malichai was a push-and-pull. She needed him in a way, wanted him, felt a connection that was unlike anything she’d ever known. She felt cared for. But, she knew he was a dangerous man. Being around him put her in the crosshairs of Whitney’s men. Staying meant potentially being discovered and taken back to the lab. It was complicated right up until he needed her. And then, she knew what to do. I loved her for that.

description

The women of the GhostWalker program had varying levels of aggression. Some, like Zara (Covert Game), could kill, but really wanted to have a normal life, a family, and didn’t want to kill anyone. Her strength was in her intelligence and her loyalty. But, there was never any doubt that she could kill someone if she had to. And that she’d be willing.

description

Some women had no problem whatsoever taking someone out if they perceived them as a threat, like Bellisia (Power Game) or even Shylah (Toxic Game).
Which of our lethal heroines do you like best? Which one would you like to be if you could be a GhostWalker?

Lethal Game Man Down

description

Leaving a man behind is the very last thing any GhostWalker, or anyone in the military, wants to do. Soldiers will risk their lives for one another. They’ll risk their lives to go back for a soldier who has been hit or otherwise left behind. Time and time again the GhostWalkers have proven this to be so. Even in Toxic Game when there was a chance Draden was infected with a deadly virus, they didn’t give up on him. When Malichai is wounded in , his team brings him out under heavy fire, risking their lives. This single event will change Malichai in ways he, his team, his family, could never imagine.

Malichai is told he has to take time off to recuperate and he finds himself in San Diego, California at a bed & breakfast. But, some men just attract danger and Malichai is one of those men.

description

Even though what he finds causes him to call in his team, it’s not enough. They need more help, fast. And just like his team would never leave him in a dangerous situation alone, the GhostWalkers are more than just one team.

I created the GhostWalker creed long ago when I wrote Shadow Game. It represents the GhostWalkers and tells everyone what they can expect. Even in the creed they swear never to leave a man behind.

The GhostWalker Creed:

We are the GhostWalkers, we live in the shadows
The sea, the earth, and the air are our domain
No fallen comrade will be left behind
We are loyalty and honor bound
We are invisible to our enemies
and we destroy them where we find them
We believe in justice and we protect our country
and those unable to protect themselves
What goes unseen, unheard, and unknown are
GhostWalkers
There is honor in the shadows and it is us
We move in complete silence whether in jungle or desert
We walk among our enemy unseen and unheard
Striking without sound and scatter to the winds
before they have knowledge of our existence
We gather information and wait with endless patience
for that perfect moment to deliver swift justice
We are both merciful and merciless
We are relentless and implacable in our resolve
We are the GhostWalkers and the night is ours

description

Malichai finds himself in dangerous territory right at home. His brothers-in-arms will come to help him. But in the end, his decision has to be made entirely on his own. How big of a sacrifice will he make, now that he’s finally found love, to save thousands of innocent lives?

What do you think is the most important part of the GhostWalker creed? What else do you feel heroes promise us whether they say it or not? Who is your favorite GhostWalker hero so far? Male or female? Or both!

A Good Day at Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ!

description

As you know, I do all of my blogging here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. I’ve been blogging here since 2016, sharing things about writing, books, personal things and talking about things I love. I love the ASK THE AUTHOR feature where readers can ask questions. One of the benefits to this feature is my ability to mark an answer as a “spoilerâ€ so readers are warned ahead of time and won’t see the answer unless they click on it. I participate in the Kindle Notes & Highlights feature which is a way for me to discuss what readers found interesting in the book. All of these features invite communication and relationships which is exactly what I want with my readers.

I was contacted by a wonderful woman from Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ who asked if I’d like to participate in the Kindle Notes & Highlights program. I was told that the program helped interact with readers and I was on board with it!

I was invited by Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ to come to San Francisco to meet their staff and participate in an event with two other authors. As you know, I don’t travel very much anymore, but San Francisco is a drivable distance for me, so I said “yesâ€.

description

I knew there would be a Q & A session and we’d be asked questions posed by Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ readers. My editor, Cindy and my publisher’s Deputy Director of marketing, Jin, flew in from New York to be there. My team came with me and I met the other two authors who’d be attending.

Everyone was so kind, inviting and fun! I felt like I left there with a group of new friends! The staff there was so welcoming I wished I could have met more of them.

The other two authors were Casey McQuiston and Jasmine Guillory. wrote the novel, which I read and loved! Casey is young, sweet, intelligent and full of energy. Plus, she’s a dog lover! She’s also a terrific writer. I’m looking forward to her next book.

description

is a fellow Californian and wrote The which was fun and who has an amazing hero I fell in love with! Jasmine has a sweet disposition that makes you like her immediately. I’m now totally hooked on her books. I look forward to the end of my workday when I can sit back and enjoy the circle of friends and what’s going on in their lives.

All three of us were put up on a platform in front of a live audience and interviewed by the amazing Mimi Chan of Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.

description

Questions like “Why is Malichai recuperating in San Diego when the team has homes in the bayou, and does this mean team 3 is keeping an eye on him?â€ sent in by Gail via the ASK THE AUTHOR program on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. There are other questions I was asked and those will be shared via ASK THE AUTHOR.

The attendees and staff had their own questions plus they included a “Speed-round of questions and talked about how all three authors were “risk takers in romance.

The day seemed to rush by, all of it filled with fun, laughter and thoughtful questions and answers. I feel like Jasmine, Casey and I all bonded and that the entire Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ staff are my new-found friends.

You can see some of the videos that were taped HERE

The Love of Books: Celebrating Romance Week on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ!

Share The Love Theme

description

It’s Romance Week and I thought it would be fun to find out more about what you love! I’ll share my favorite books, couple, movies and songs throughout the week and would love to hear what yours are!

Before we get started I hope you'll check out the article I contributed to-Starter Kit of Reads for Romance!

The Love of Books

I’ve been reading for as long as I can recall. My first romance book was-

by Gene Stratton-Porter.

The first romance I ever tried to write was-

It was a mystery. The love story was really more of a crush story since I was only ten when I wrote this story. LOL

My favorite classic romance is-

Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

A romance novel I would recommend is-

There are two that I’d recommend.

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1) by Helen Hoang
And one I read just recently Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

My favorite romance couple from a novel I did not write is-
Eve and Roarke from JD Robb’s In Death series. I know so many people love this couple and I’m one of those people. They are such a romantic and well-developed couple.

Why I love the romance between Malichai and Amaryllis because-

There’s this connection that clicks into place when you find that person who completes you. This couple have that.
One is strong in a way the other needs.
Malichai needed his own “Nonnie. Someone who’d take care of him and be happy doing it. He needed to belong to someone he could trust completely. He needed someone to fight by his side.

Amaryllis needed something Malichai had in abundance, family. She wanted to belong. To have friends. She’d been denied things like tenderness and trust. As they learned more about each other, she found those things in Malichai.

They were a romance puzzle in a way. There were blanks that needed to be filled and together, each supplying the other’s missing pieces, they were a complete picture.

If You Could Ask Me Any Question About Lethal Game

I’m super excited to share that I’ve been invited to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ in San Francisco! I’ll be there Tuesday February 11th and while I’m there I’ll be answering questions sent in by readers on Ask the Author! If you’d like to send in a question for me to answer you can. Just sign in to your Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ account and go to this LINK
description

On the 11th I’ll be answering those questions related to Lethal Game or the GhostWalker series.

description

I’ve never been to the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ headquarters in San Francisco and I’m very excited and honored to be invited. I’m also very excited to have the opportunity to meet bestselling authors and who will also be there!

Last week when I was in the for the Lethal Game virtual signing I found Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston and The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory and of course I had to have them!

description

I just read Casey’s Red, White & Royal Blue and loved it! The characters are so well done and slow-building romance is sweet. You love them both so much you can’t wait for them to realize they love each other. It’s not an easy path and I liked the thoughtfulness the author puts into the story.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Today, I’ve started Jasmine’s The Wedding Party and so far I’m really enjoying it, too. It’s very well-written and I’m already hooked!

The Wedding Party (The Wedding Date, #3) by Jasmine Guillory

Lethal Game comes out on March 3rd and we’re leaving the bayou for San Diego, so we’ll have a change of scenery. And if you’ve watched the already you know we may be seeing someone from the other teams. Maybe more than one someone. Who knows? Okay, I know. I’m wondering who’s excited about potentially seeing other GhostWalkers?

Please send your questions to ASK THE AUTHOR before Feb. 11th!
