Ep. 36 Old Soul Sojourn with Tyson Yunkaporta

Tyson Yunkaporta is the author of Sand Talk: Changing the World Through Indigenous Knowledge. Admittedly cheeky, Tyson’s goal with the book is to provoke thought and encourage conversations. In my meandering podcast with him, we end up on a virtual walkabout that weaves in and out of the book topics with our own stories and commentary. I came across his book because of a Shamanism course I am taking and I devoured it in one night! The book is as engaging as Tyson is in this conversation.

Tyson Y...

Thoughts on Self-Love

I’ve been reading a book called Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It by Kamal Ravikant, recommended to my by my good friend Joyce Slaughter of Mosaic Starfish.

This book has hit me square between the eyes, and Joyce tells me it’s doing the same for her. Now, I’ve read A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson, and Whatever Arises, Love That by Matt Kahn, among others. And for all the wisdom contained in those books, none has had quite the same effect as Ravikant’s book, and I’m only halfway ...

Ep. 35 Just for Today * Point of Departure

This episode of the Old Soul Archaeology podcast published late this week, although I can pull some web strings and back date the publish date on this blog post. But I won’t.

I decided to record this podcast just for me, telling myself what I needed to hear. Ignoring the rules of marketing and business that says content is king, consistency is king, blah, blah, blah. Since I missed my Wednesday pub date, I could have just said “Fuhgeddaboudit and waited until next week to publish the next one. ...

The Medicine of Trust

As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live. ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Trusting Yourself

What if it really were this simple? What if…it really is…this simple? What if there were no what if? It IS really this simple. Now what? Well, I didn’t say it was easy.

It’s not easy because from the moment we are born, everything we are taught says or implies that we cannot trust ourselves. But it is as simple as a decision. In the moment. Moment by moment. I trust myself now. I trust my Se...

Making Yourself a Priority: It’s NOT About Time!

In client work this last week, I had two opportunities to witness directly the fallacy I often fall into myself. That is the fallacy that we can finally prioritize our own wants and needs when, and only when, there is enough time.

One client is obviously busy, but she couldn’t see how she could fit in even 5 minutes for herself. As if such a small amount of time was insulting. She might as well have said, unless someone says I can have two hours to matter, it’s not worth it. Valuing yourself isn...

Fabulous Friday * Vulnerability is a RockStar

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.
~Brene Brown

You probably haven’t thought about Vulnerability being a RockStar.

I hadn’t. In most social situations, vulnerability just isn’t the rockstar. We have to know we’re in a safe space with others who are also willing to be vulnerable.

I was part of a MasterMind today where I bared the heart I wear on my sleeve, particularly around the idea of fear and the imposter syndrome. I was actually amazed and relieved that ...

Thoughtful Thursday * Smell the Sea and Feel the Sky

“Smell the sea and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly.
~Van Morrison

Today’s thoughtful Thursday is in memory of my Mother In Law, Betty Sue Arama, who passed in her sleep, reportedly of heart failure, earlier this week. It’s been a rough week of doing the bare minimum as feelings course through us, and as we have made ourselves available to assist other family members in their grief and tasks associated with her passing.

We rejoice that her energy has departed from a suffering body and...

Wisdom Wednesday * By What Light?

In the Upanishads, a wise sage is called upon by a powerful ruler to advise the people on what to do in dark times. The conversation is an unraveling of truths, down to a root truth. He begins however by asking, By What Light does Man go about his business? The sage responds, “By the light of the sun does Man work, go about his business, and return home.”The king asks, “And when the sun sets?”“Why, then, the sage replies, “by the light of the moon he works, goes about his business and r...
