Memory Road | Purina: Guadalupe River - Ride The Slumber Rapids Involuntarily with a Snake.
After working at KVET/KASE News in Austin, I tried ‘movin-on-up, and landed at KIKK in Houston. As you might expect, I didn’t always grab the brass ring. In the holiday spirit, find your muse and share it where you can!
Being a writer is the best part of my life. I’ve written broadcast news for the radio since I was fifteen, three novels on Amazon, thousands of lines of computer code and even written a hundred or more snappy jingles (radio/TV singing commercials). After a half-century, experience has taught me to use stellar equipment and hire superior support talent, tempered with a hefty dose of humility.
Back in the '80s, digital audio was in its infancy. This is the sound of a Neumann U47 used for the voiceover and the singer. The music is entirely a Synclavier creation which plays digital samples from a memory deck on a piano-like keyboard.
I read the voice and wrote and produced this spot at Cook Sound & Picture Works in Houston. I hired a Cook Synclavier master keyboard player and a talented singer and went off to the ad races.* What great fun! I think it was circa 1989.

“Ole Smiley won a national Silver Microphone award for “best production never aired. I did it on spec for Purina. Unfortunately, they never used it. Purina had an ad agency with a hard lock on the creativity door. I still think this spot would sell beaucoup dog chow! I wrote several episodes with the alter ego, Ole Smiley. In one, he went up Vail Mountain in Colorado and took down an albino snow bear. “That’s my dog!
I’m content now to write books. I hope they somehow bring excellent memories to my readers. Thank you for being a fan and a friend. Happy holidays. Enjoy.
* Note: I created this ad as an 'audio-only campaign for radio. TrailerHouse Productions added a sample video for this demonstration only.

Memory Road Ever Ridden the Rapids on the Guadalupe River?

Being a writer is the best part of my life. I’ve written news for the radio and even jingles (radio/TV commercials). Experience has taught me to use great equipment and hire superior talent.
Back in the '80s, digital audio was in its infancy. This is the sound of a Neumann U47. The VO and the singer both. The music was made entirely with a Synclavier which played digital samples from a piano-like keyboard.
I read the voice and wrote and produced this spot at Cook Sound & Picture Works in Houston. I hired a Cook Synclavier master keyboard player and a talented singer and went off to face the big league. What great fun! I miss those days. I think it was circa 1989.

“Ole Smiley won a national Silver Microphone award for “best production never aired. I did it on spec for Purina. Unfortunately, they never used it. Sometimes when I’m in a slump while writing my next novel, “Murder on the Moon I look back at past works to get a smile, if nothing else. They’re not all impressionable, but you have to find your muse where you can.
I’m content now to write books. I hope, in some way, they bring excellent memories to my readers. Thank you for being a fan and a friend. Happy holidays. Enjoy.

authoralliance:Author IntegrityWhen we began INSONA Author...

:
Author IntegrityWhen we began , we were looking online for help to self-publish a book. We saw a lot of scams and websites that considered authors to be a target. We found the industry to be overwhelmingly confusing and sincere aid for do-it-yourselfers in short supply. We made it our mission to put those shortfalls down and done.
Although we do offer paid services to our writers, it is not our primary goal. We’re here for those book entrepreneurs who want to do all the work themselves and want it done right, with best-in-class advice. We’ve learned that some people want to delegate all or a few of the book-making tasks to a professional. We’re here for you in either case and we never share your private info.
We’ve made our tips and search engines free for life for you by promoting industry-leading sponsors with a measured degree of integrity, validation, and vetting. Your INSONA account is free for you to use as long as you choose to remain active.

Daunting Author Duties: Whereto Begin?
Oncewas the day when authors simply wrote books and then an army of publishingprofessionals took over. Editing, cover art, illustrations, formatting, and theessential-but-dreaded marketing projects are now the sole duty of themodern-day self-published author. Authors now do the work themselves or hiresomeone to complete each task. That’s good in that you keep more of the profit, but ‘the harsh in it is that you need to learn to do a lot of things you may notbe interested in doing. And worse, there are a lot of things that you maybehaven’t even thought of yet.
Forexample, most people don’t know that every version of a book needs a uniqueISBN. A paperback needs an ISBN, a hardcover needs another, an eBook needs one,and an audiobook needs its own, too. They all must be unique and each one costs$125 unless you buy a multiple-ISBN package. And of course, as a self-publishedauthor, you also manage the budget.
Youmay ask if self-publishing is the best way forward for you. The fact is that inthe 22nd century the traditional publisher who will give an author an 'advance’check for a manuscript and then do all the investment and work, is becomingobsolete, or at least on the extinct list. If you are not already famous, getting an old-school publisher is more and more unrealistic every day. To makematters worse, dozens of scam artists and companies will gladly take your cash, and before you ever sell a book, charge you thousands of dollars to do a jobfor you. Oh, and the end product may or may not be what you expect. Plus, you’ll likely end up under someone else’s IMPRINT along with millions of othertitles. An imprint can drastically affect how search engines display your bookwhen readers search the internet for you, your book, or your genre.
Optionally, somecompanies will provide you with an editor or artist, or other professionalindependent contractors, but they usually require a commission and/or acontract, and you never work directly with the person providing the product.More often than not, you never even speak with the independent contractor whois indirectly working directly for you. That can put a great deal oftime into communication of ideas or changes. Then to top it off, the companythat holds the contract gets the lion’s share of all costs paid by the author. That can feel abusive, a tragedy to someone new to the industry. So where doyou begin? How can you keep control of how your book looks and feels or where areader can get it?
Well,if you only want to put out eBooks, you can do everything on Amazon and limitmost of your external fees by using their cover art creation and fileconversion tools which are free. However, if you ever want to sell booksthrough bookstores or your website, you’ll need to jump through dozens ofhoops. It’s even daunting just to make a list of all there is that can take youto task.
First, remain calm and take your time. You absolutely can get it all done. When youresearch a line item on your list of tasks, stick with the leaders in theindustry for a voice of authority. Two significant sources of information andgenuine help are and . IngramSpark is a worldwide printing anddistribution company with an impeccable reputation for hardcovers, paperbacks, and eBooks. Bowker is the industry standard for obtaining ISBNs, imprints, barcodes, QR codes, copyrights, and more. Both companies offer valuableinformation and “Recommended Essential Reading materials for all authors.Do yourself a favor and inhale all you can read before spending a dime or doinganything else.
Here’sa great place to begin. Find an abundance of information and potential projectpartners, vetted for integrity, and free.

authoralliance:Why Most Authors Use Microsoft Word? You would...
:
Why Most Authors Use Microsoft Word? You would never even attempt to write a book on a cell phone orscant mobile app if you are a serious author. Most professional authorscreate every draft they write with the “Microsoft Word editor. Software featuresand continued support drove the digital market in the 1990s and MS Word became broadlyadopted by a majority of writers because it had the most options for the bestvalue.
Now MS Word is duly the industry standard for mostprofessional editors because they use the Word “Track Changes feature. TrackChanges allows for an editor to make manuscript document changes and provide marginnotes for an author rapidly and then give the author the option of acceptingthe change or not. Track Changes also provides a record of who makes a changeand when, which is handy for multi-edit or multiple editor tracking. If youwant to accommodate an editor and their time, consider the software they preferto use and ideally use that same kind and version. It can not only save themtime, but you too, and that ultimately means dollars for your editing budget. Ifyou don’t yet know who your editor is, you can bet on MS Word as a well-vettedsoftware choice.
Regarding the idea of writing a book on a cell phone or mobileapp, yes, it might be possible to do, but you’d have to be crazy to try. Withthat in mind, when you choose a book project management software and teamconsider . is fullyfunctional on any mobile device, but the site powers up some highly visionaryauthors and best displays on a large-screen monitor.
Being an author requires a great deal of knowledge and informationfor many technically diverse areas of expertise, as well as a superhuman, mind-numbingability to sit and write for hours. Serious authors need a full-sized display withbroad functionality for minimal stress on the eyes. We recommend visiting ourwebsite with the latest version of Windows and Google Chrome with the browserwindow fully expanded.
