Brave New Worlds: 75 Recent & Upcoming Dystopian Fiction Books

Posted by Sharon on March 1, 2025

Dystopian visions of the future have long been a popular subset of speculative fiction, and they have an interesting habit of migrating into other bookstore aisles, too. You can find dystopian elements threaded into literary fiction, mystery-thrillers, horror, even romance. (Trust us, we're watching closely to see if the termdystomancetakes off.)

For today’s collection, we’ve assembled a broad selection of new and upcoming titles that feature dystopian visions of various kinds. The books gathered here have release dates from the beginning of 2023 through the end of 2025.

Futuristic sci-fi stories are one of the ways that, as a culture, we work through our anxieties and fears—technological, political, ecological, microbial…the list goes on. Root around a bit and you’ll see just how dystopian fiction has branched out in recent years. As you'll discover, turns out we've got a lot to be anxious about these days.

Click on the book cover images for more details about each title. Use the Want to Read button to flag any books and place them on your digital shelf.

GR never includes the synopses on the page when they make these kinds of lists. They're there for quick, easy viewing. All you have to do is hover your mouse over the book and a window pops up with the synopsis, or you click/tap the book and go to its page to read it, and then hit back in the browser to return to the list. It's not hard.
