An angry alien, an innocent woman, and a treacherous bargain
Accused of a crime she didn’t commit, Kara runs. The abandoned farmhouse she stumbles across seems like the perfect refuge - until a very large and very angry green alien appears. When he reluctantly agrees to let her remain, she finds herself unexpectedly drawn to the lonely male behind the grumpy exterior.
After being betrayed in the worst possible way and spending three years rotting in a jail in Port Cantor, all ±á‼쾱³¾ wants is to be left alone to lick his wounds and plot his revenge. The last thing he needs is a curvy little human who won’t stop talking.
The more time they spend together, the more she works her way into his heart - but the price he paid for his freedom is about to come due and it may cost him everything, including her...
Each book in this series features a different couple and may be read as a standalone, but the books do link together. This sweet and steamy series is intended for mature readers.
We met(-ish) H'zim in S'kal's story and he's not a happy alien. With reason seeing how he's been imprisoned for something he didn't do and he's stewing in a big vat of rage over trusting someone and having them betray him. Yeah, H'zim is definitely in a rough place at the start. He has vengeance on his mind and he's only taking over a farm to make his brother happy.
Finding someone living in the decrepit farmhouse he's chosen for himself when all he wants is solitude to plot and plan and probably stoke his rage stew some more is not ideal for the big guy. But as angry at everything as he is, H'zim can't just toss Kara out when he finds her hiding out. So he reluctantly allows her to stay, not thinking much of her offer to help out around the farm. After all, he's been betrayed by a female he allowed close before and he has his guard WAY up.
But Kara surprises him. She doesn't mind hard work and she's desperate for a place to feel safe. And to call home, but H'zim isn't quite ready for that. So she helps out around the farm and together they start to build something that works. Yeah, yeah, maybe there's a cloud or two hanging over them that always feels like it's about to bring their world down around them, but they ignore it.
Until, you know, they can't. Then H'zim has to decide how far he's willing to go on his own and whether he can put aside his desire for vengeance. After all, he has his old squad and his brother waiting in the wings to help him out if he just asks.
This series is winding down and we definitely get answers to why certain individuals are so interested in the land the aliens have settled on. BUT...we still have Tomlin's story waiting in the wings and I'm ready to see what secrets he's been hiding under his seemingly human exterior.
Excellent reading! This is one of my favorite stories in this series! I love Kara’s intrepid personality. She escapes a dangerous situation, finds a safe place to live, and stands her ground when ±á‼쾱³¾ wants to take over. Embittered, not trusting women, ±á‼쾱³¾ is not easy to win over. I love seeing him slowly fall for Kara. Such excitement, and a vile enemy in their story - excellent reading! Aahh, the mystery that is Tomlin. Will we see more of him? I hope so, I’m intrigued.
Today I come with a new book review! It's H'zim by Honey Phillips, from the series How the Aliens Were Won, Book 7. I really liked this book. It's short, it's sweet, and it has a great ending. Read my full review below, and, as always, no spoilers.
Plot Overview
H'zim, the alien, goes to his farm to get away from everything bad that happened to him - he had just spent 3 years in jail for a crime he didn't commit, being falsely accused by his last girlfriend, which made him very hard inside and determined to never trust anyone again. To his surprise, his farm was already being occupied by a human! Kara ran there, thinking it was abandoned, as she was also falsely accused by a douchebag, called Lucas. First, H'zim is really mean and cold but they slowly open up to each other and, as always, the sparks fly. Oh, and there's only one bed. Of course.
Personal Opinion: H'zim by Honey Phillips
I love a good hurt man - as I know many of you do too. He doesn't want to open up, he definitely doesn't want Kara there. He tells her to leave many, many times, and he's very rude at times. But then he slowly warms up to that human.
The book is very short, it's only 170 pages or so, so we don't have much time to get to know the characters really well. I read it because it was #1 in its category on Amazon and the cover caught my attention, only later realizing this is book 7 of this universe, so I might get more of these characters reading the other books. I loved how sweet it was. However, it didn't have much steam at all. Only two steamy scenes, starting after 50% of the book. I was very surprised by that, I wish it was more steamy.
It has a happy ending and it's definitely connected to the other books in the universe, which makes you want all of them! The thing that I found very weird was that it was in 3rd POV, we don't usually see books like that in romance.
Overall, it's a fun story and I'd recommend it if you want to warm your heart.
This series is such a sweet delicious treat. Its about healing and the power of love. All the characters in these books have had trauma that they have suffered and survived. Sometimes scars were visible and other times they were hidden within. This book was no different H'Zim scared by war and betrayed by a female and imprisoned for 3 years finally Baggins his way out of jail and ends up with his brother on a fixer upper farm. All he wants is revenge he can't think about the future until he comes across Kara. Kara has never had a real home and its the o of things she's ever wanted. A place to belong and feel apart of something. Shipped off to one foster family after another until she's stumbled into Wainwright. But even this little town doesn't feel accepting, and the town womanizer has set his sights on her. She's runs into the mountains and comes across an abandoned farm and she decides to stay until H"Zim finds her. The attraction is instant but both are wary and afraid to trust. They begin to work together to restore the farm and as each day passes their relationship grows stronger and love blooms. But that doesn't mean danger and the past don't come knocking. You need to read and find out if their love is strong enough to save them both! Highly recommend🔥💖🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥 🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟
“she kissed him, and he knew that he had everything he could ever want right there in his arms.
Kara was orphaned and after numerous foster homes is now on her own, scratching out a living. When an unsavory man accuses her of stealing to her landlady in order to push her to give in to his advances, she leaves in the middle of the night and finds an abandoned farm. Here she is found by Hzim (S’kal’s brother and fellow warrior). Hzim has his own issues, being recently imprisoned under false pretenses and he wants revenge. He was brought to the ranch to find peace by his brother and wants nothing more than to be alone. But he can recognize her plight and agrees to let her stay. This story has all the feels and is like a wonderful homecoming with all the previous couples coming into play. Plenty of steamy times add to the enjoyment. Danger too - how is Tomlin involved?? Highly recommend this whole series!!!.

Okay, this is the perfect grumpy/sunshine read which is one of my top favorite tropes! In the beginning, our FMC, Kara, is so alone and it made me so sad. She may be at disadvantage, but she just keeps showing up! Enter H'zim. We have met him before in previous books. He is most definitely the grumpy to Kara's sunshine. Kara is a bit sassy with ±á‼쾱³¾. She likes to tease him, but also wants to know him. ±á‼쾱³¾ is the one that transforms during the book. He goes from wanting revenge to wanting more.
Reasons to read this book: **Grumpy/Sunshine is one of my favorite tropes! **Loved Kara! Strong FMC and she rocks! **±á‼쾱³¾ gets the glow up in this story. Great character development! **Perfect spice level and not too soon. Def teased us! **I thought this wrapped the series quite well and we got to touch base with other characters, too!
Not only was this book such a good one, but we have TOMLIN coming! And I am here for it! Honey is blessing us with a BONUS book! Great read! 4 stars, 3 spicy spice!
Another wonderful story about the aliens on cresca. In this book, H' zim, S' kal's brother has been dropped off at the most remote farm on the property, as he requested. S'kal is not happy, but he understands. H' zim has been recently gotten out of jail for a crime that he didn't commit. He has nothing but vengeance on his mind. Except that there is a human female bathing in his bathtub !!! Kara has run away from a difficult situation, and found herself on this seemingly abandoned property. She has been fixing it up as best she could. But she really didn't want anyone to know she was here. Until some great big alien tells at her while she was in the tub !!! Kara and H' zim were such a cute couple. Together in their quest to create a working farm, they naturally become closer then either had thought that they would. And , as always I really enjoy taking a peek into the other previous couples, as the mystery of the property comes together. Already looking forward to the next book !!!
(This review is really for the whole series because, OMG, I couldn't stop reading.)
If you’re a fan of westerns with some spice and the MMC is an alien instead of human, then this is the series for you. Each of these books is about a human female who meets/pairs with one of a group of aliens who are healing from their own war wounds. They are working the land on an earth-like planet and the women are likewise trying to figure out their lives.
Initially, I wondered how many different storylines you could come up along the same theme. Well, Honey Phillips doesn’t disappoint.
Each story is as individual as the MMC and MFC that fall in love. And when I say, I couldn’t put the books (ebooks) down, I am not lying. I read through the whole series over the course of a weekend and then waited impatiently for #7 to be released in June.
Each of the characters is endearing and fallible and wounded. I found myself rooting for each and every one of them. I have the release date for number 8 in my calendar and I can hardly wait!
'Of course Kara was his mate. How could he have been so blind to the fact for so long? Now it was time to claim her properly - but first he had to tell her the truth.'
I really enjoyed this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both H'zim and Kara, and their grumpy/sunshine personalities are my favorite dynamic. Both have not had an easy past. Kara ran from a man who wanted to bed her and accused her of being a thief when she refused. H'zim was betrayed by a woman and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit and wants revenge. While he doesn't trust women and was still willing to throw Kara out despite her having no where else to go, her being innocent of an accused crime was something he could not turn away from. I enjoyed the way their relationship developed and grew into so much more. But is Kara truly safe there? Will H'zim still try to get revenge, or instead find the peace he deserves? 4 stars.
H’ZIM is angry. He is angry that he was betrayed and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. He seeks and wants revenge. He lives in an isolated farm on the compound. is afraid and on the run because a brutish man is trying to force her to sleep with him. He has even gone as far as telling people of the town that she is dishonest and has stolen from him. It is all lies but as the outsider, although she is outraged, she does not want to test that they will trust her character and know that she is innocent. She hates him so escapes to the forest area way outside of Weinwright. Desperate she finds a farm that has been abandoned and secretes herself there for months. One night ±á‼쾱³¾ , a stranger to her, returns to his isolated home and walks in while she naked having a bath. Great tormented story of loss, fear and eventually very sexy including underlying menace.
Think...well, think of him having about as much confidence as , and a surliness to match that of , and you've pretty much got this hero down pat!
Ahem, but, that being said, his romance with Kara really did progress organically, and overall left me with a satisfying read!
Also, while I've kind of been indifferent to Tomlin thus far, I AM curious in the heroine of that book (we get a brief glimpse of her here), and therefore will be reading the next book when it comes out.
Kara has fled the boarding house she’d been living in when a super creepy guy accused her of theft to blackmail her into sleeping with him. ±á‼쾱³¾ has served the majority of a prison sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. ±á‼쾱³¾ finds Kara squatting in his farmhouse, and after a bit of discussion agrees to allow her to stay as long as she earns her keep.
The pair find themselves unable to resist each other as they work hard side by side to rebuild the farmstead. Will ±á‼쾱³¾ leave Kara to exact revenge on those who framed him or will his feelings for Kara outweigh his need for payback?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and even though I’ve not read other books in the series, it’s not difficult to follow along.
I received an advance reader copy from the author and booksprout, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.
I knew from his very first attitude filled growl that H'zim was going to be a favorite character. There's just something wonderful about a growly broken male. I also knew he would need somebody equally spectacular as his Love and Kara is. Her life has been hard and she is supremely alone. She could have been almost as broken as H'zim but instead she is filled with light and love and beauty. Her light is exactly the tonic H'zim needs to glue his soul back together. Their journey to healing was so satisfying. I loved getting to say hi to the other couples in the series. I am so glad Tomlin is getting his book, even if it is the last book in the series. That makes me sad because I have come to love these damaged ex-military aliens. Honey Phillips writes what I want to read...great stories with wonderful characters.
Kara (h) is on the run, Accused of a theft she didn’t commit, Kara is on the run and finds refuge in an abandoned farmhouse where she hopes to make a fresh start. Scarred by betrayal and haunted by his past, former warrior ±á‼쾱³¾ (H) wants nothing more than to be alone. But when he discovers Kara living in the farmhouse, the one he’d chosen for himself because he thought it was deserted, his plans are upended. Forced to share the space, Kara and ±á‼쾱³¾ reluctantly begin working together to restore the farm. As they face external threats and their own inner demons, they form an unexpected bond. Kara’s kindness and resilience start to break down ±á‼쾱³¾â€™s walls, while his strength and protection give her the safety she’s always longed for. Sweet and spicy alien-human, grumpy sunshine romance with a side of danger as H'zim and Kara heal and connect.
I love this series. Even though H'zim and Kara get their wonderful HEA ,the book should be read in order to know the other characters and the backstory. The plot thickens with the knowledge Tomlin has about what he thinks is going on. Why H'zim was accused of thief, and his promise of a future favor. Kara has her own problems, hence her running from town to a deserted house. I loved how H'zim "helped" her with her problem. I loved how she also helped him if not accept his past at least be able to live with it. She is his beacon of light in his darkness. Action throughout. I loved how the other characters are helping H'zim with his problems, how his brother S'kal always supports him. Steam to the romance. I loved the way the mysteries were solved. Can't wait to read Tomlin's story.

Another of those authors where I get the book regardless. That does not for one minute mean that I am not caring over what I read just that there are some authors which I know are brilliant no matter what and Honey is one of those.
H'Zim has been sent to prison for a crime he did not commit (why do I always have the A-Team soundtrack in my head whenever I see that.. anywho) and he has managed to get away before the end of it. He is surprised to find in his absence a small chatty human woman. Kara has run away from the boarding house she was living in because of one creepy male who was trying to coerce her. She found shelter in what she thought was an empty house and boy was she surprised when the owner turned up out of the blue. They each needed something that the other unconsciously had.
Kara was a strong woman, but even a strong woman has her limits. Being harassed repeatedly by Trask. A rich perverted dirt bag who thought women should do what ever he wants, and is enraged by her refusal, again, and again. He then used threats that she stole from him, and he wanted to press charges. She has to escape by foot across rough territory, and a forest till she finds an , what she thinks is an abandoned farmhouse. Little did she know, her future Mate was about to be dropped off to live there too! H'zim has a lot of trauma to deal with, and as much as he tries to ignore her sunny disposition, and her flirting, eventually he can't deny that she belongs to him. Threats from an old deadly enemy come to a head, and are finally eliminated for good. Another winner for one of my favorite sci-fi authors.
"...she’d learned long ago not to underestimate a vindictive man."
H'zim, like many of his fellow warriors has PTSD, but his is compounded by a betrayal that landed him in a civilian jail. Can he break free of his past and build a new future?
Kara has spent a lifetime moving around, always hoping to someday find a home. One day she stumbles upon a place most people would refuse to live, but she sees the potential, and hope for the future.
This done in one book moves forward the overarching arc of what is Marshall looking for on the warrior's land, and why. While the entire series is about emotional and mental healing from the past, this book feels like it takes that theme up a level, while adding in dashes of accepting help, understanding when we are alone vs. when we are isolating ourselves, and taking the risk of letting someone else into our lives.
How the Aliens Were Won series continues to enchant me. Our main characters have gone through so much. Kara is accused of something falsely by the bad guy so she'll sleep with him. So she leaves town fast and finds her way to an abandoned farmstead away from town. It feels like a great place to settle until H'Zim comes in. Guess it wasn't abandoned. H'zim was falsely accused of a crime and spent several years in prison. He's cranky, a loner and wanting revenge. He wants nothing to do with anyone, especially Kara. But he agrees to let her stay. Why? Honey writes a very sweet story, with its issues and bad guys and great friends all coming together for a great read. This whole series has been amazing and hopefully Tomlin will get his chance too.
I was both happy and sad as the author gave us the best characters of the series with H'zim and Kara. Both characters proved how strongly they were actually meant for one another as they both had been put through so much.
I was sad as the author alluded in the ending "Authors Notes" the the series was coming to its end as she as besides the couples romantic story unfols, we get the long awaited answers to why someone is so hell bent on taking over the Warriors' little farming community.
I highly recommend any and all of Ms. Phillips books if you haven't read any of her books that she has presented for our entertainment.

I loved ±á‼쾱³¾ and Kara, they were so cute and absolutely perfect for each other! Kara was so lonely and hiding out on the abandoned farm after running from another crappy situation and ±á‼쾱³¾ was lonely too but he was also angry and dealing with the demons of his past. They get off to a bit of a rocky start but it doesn’t take long for the forced proximity to work it’s magic and then they were falling!! They were so sweet, ±á‼쾱³¾ all broody and set on his revenge slowly falling for the ball of sunshine helping him heal! It was good and with how all the drama on the farm ended I’m definitely even more intrigued by Tomlin and can’t wait to read his story next.
±á‼쾱³¾ is book 7 in the How the Aliens Were Won series and I loved getting to know ±á‼쾱³¾ and his mystery gal Kara.
±á‼쾱³¾ is grumpy, prickly and such an untrusting alien he just wants to be alone. Kara is sunshine and happiness despite her loneliness and fear of being discovered and kicked out while hiding in an abandoned farmhouse. They are so different yet two of a kind and they just might find their HEA together.
We get to revisit some of our favorite characters from the series and as always there is some action and drama on the farm. I recommend starting the series from the beginning, it is a fun adventure and I cannot wait for the next book in the series Tomlin!
Sometimes the bark Is worse than the bite. This is so true for our growly warrior H'zim, who, was truly dealt a bad hand. Fortunately for us Honey gave him and us everything he needed to overcome his troubled past and unwarranted incarceration.
His first interaction with Kara initially knocked him off his feet. Her strong, no-nonsense attitude and soft caring heart besotted him. When he learns of her recent circumstances, that growly warrior peaks his head.
Everyone deserves a happy ever after, and I'm pleased to say that theirs was one of the best .💜
An amazing read as always, Honey!

I’ve been curious about ±á‼쾱³¾ for a while now and I’m glad we finally got his story. Betrayed and imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, ±á‼쾱³¾ is bitter and angry and has some serious PTSD. He wants to be alone but finds Kara hiding in his new home. He doesn’t want her there but he does so it was fun seeing him struggle with that. Kara was understanding about all of it and read him well. They’re just cute together in their exuberant affections once ±á‼쾱³¾ got over himself. I am now intensely curious about Tomlin’s story and can’t wait for it to come out. This author does very well to make us crave the next one.
Their story is engaging and interesting, easy to get lost in. They were perfectly suited to eachother he just took longer to convince. Although they were both just drifting loosely in the world, Kara with no family and no connections, and H'zim with connections but with PTSD and bad choices plaguing him, you'd think they'd never even notice each other, until they do! The same bad guy is featured in this installment but his end goal becomes clearer. I was all in right from the blurb, Kara is on of my favors male chain the series so far!
Kara and H'zim have the sweetest romance ever. Kara finds an abandoned farm when she had to run from a rejected suitor who accused her of theft. After H'zim is released from jail, his brother takes him to the farm he selected. Then he finds Kara living there. He agrees to let her stay on the farm even though she doesn't stop talking. Kara grows on him very quickly. H'zim still has a debt to repay. Will he lose Kara? Will that rejected suitor file charges against Kara? Not with H'zim around he won't. This well written book has charming characters, danger, a lovely ending and a future that Kara and H'zim look forward to.
Kara is running from a rejected suitor who was spreading false rumors. She escapes and hides in what she thinks is an abandoned farmhouse. H'zim, who was also falsely accused but served three years in jail, finds her in the farmhouse. He also chose it due to it being abandoned. He wants nothing but to be alone and plot his revenge, but allows the chatty human to stay. I loved how they work together on the farm, and grow closer. They help each other heal. Another awesome book by Honey Phillips!.

Idk. I just didn’t enjoy the characters or the relationship or the plot.
Fluff. Alien. Alien peen (circle of ridges below the head and at the base. 3 holes of tip). Low angst. No OWD/OMD. FMC with no family and on the run, accused of a crime she didn’t commit. Traumatized warrior MMC. Former convict MMC (falsely imprisoned). Isolated gruff MMC. Stretching/stuffing. Massive peen she takes with no prep 🙄. No cheating. No breakup.
Epilogue 4 months later on Christmas. She gets pregnant.

Kara finally thought she found a place to settle down. But a local man, who won't take no for an answer, spreads lies about her. So she runs away and ends up at an abandoned farm. She's happy there until a large sexy alien, who has just gotten out of prison, turns up and tells her to leave. Steamy fated mate story.
