First, people should know that in the UK and elsewhere, this book is titled Genesis, which was the original title I chose. (In the US, there was another book called Genesis--sci-fi--that was publishing around mine and they didn't want confusion). I chose the title Genesis because this was really a restart for Sara Linton. She's in a new city, she's completely changed her life, she's still recovering from the horrible events in Beyond Reach (weirdly, called Skin Privilege in the UK and other territories...) I felt very keenly that I needed for readers to mourn alongside Sara, but I couldn't let it be so raw that she couldn't actually function, so I set the story a few years after Beyond Reach. So, we hear about what she went though, but we also see that there is a light peeking over the horizon.
This is also the first book where Sara meets Will Trent, which is something I had planned way back when I wrote Triptych. I see that book as well as Fractured (the only Will books without Sara) as Will's preparation for meeting Sara. He's starting to shake off Angie, he gets partnered with Faith Mitchell (whom I consider a grumpy Watson to Will's Holmes in that she makes him explain the things that are running around in his head and pulls him out of his shell), his relationship with Amanda is becoming more open...so, he's kind of learning how to be the sort of man that Sara would be interested in. And readers, too!

I also write about a widow on Cop Town (June 2014) which I didn't realize until I had finished the book. What's this with me and widows? I guess I find it interesting, because how do you go on when you lose the love of your life? It doesn't seem possible, but people have to do it every day.
This is also the first book where Sara meets Will Trent, which is something I had planned way back when I wrote Triptych. Undone is another horrific, yet intriguing installment in the Will Trent series.
This book is the most sickening and gruesome of the series that I have read so far. Focused on women who have been abducted and assaulted in ways I didn't even know were possible, it was nauseating to read.
Undone brings Sara Linton into the fold. Faith, who is battling some personal issues, takes an immediate dislike to the doctor, while Will experiences quite the opposite. Angie makes one appearance, and in my opinion, this was one too many.
I found the beginning slow, and I am not sure if it was due to the nature of the crimes, or something else that was going on, but I struggled to connect for the first half of the book. However, as Will and Faith moved deeper into solving the case and the mystery grew deeper, so did my interest.
By then end, I couldn鈥檛 put this book down. I didn鈥檛 love seeing Sara, but at the same time (since I have read book 8), I am well aware of what's to come. Betty is still my favorite character, lol!

ADDICTED, is not strong enough of a word to describe how I feel about this series!! A real page turner!! On to the next one.

TW - the so-called "hero" is a rapist, and everyone hates women because why the fuck not
Alright. It's way too late for me to write a 10,000+ review, but I'm so fucking disgusted that I have to talk about it or I'll never sleep. Let's go to the point, okay?
So. . Or , whatever it's named. I'm so angry I can't see straight. So, so angry because I've been enjoying this series so far, including the beginning of this one, I've made excuses for the rampant sexism pouring through every page, and now I'm feeling so sick, I want to unread this book.
The thing is, there's a tiny limit between picturing realistic, flawed characters and making me loathe every one of them. God, I had hopes for Will!
However, that was before I knew that he was a fucking rapist.
Yes, you heard me. You won't change my mind with the "Angie is a manipulative bitch" narrative, because you know what? Of course she is, I hate the woman, but that's very dangerous to draw lines when it comes to rape. There's NO woman on earth who deserves to be raped. I don't CARE if the book is telling us that oh, actually, she enjoyed it. SHE SAID STOP. SHE FUCKING SAID STOP. I will NOT feel sorry for Will. Was she on the verge of forcing his hand? YES. Would she have been an awful human being if she had managed to do it? YES. But why would Will be let off the hook? There's no such thing as "eyes for an eye, and teeth for a tooth" as far as I'm concerned, because then why would I care for him?? Why would I root for him? He's accountable for his actions all the same, and as much as I liked the guy, now he's like a itch I want to scratch. GO AWAY.
Things go like this : she's trying to force his hand and manipulate him, he (understandably!!) tells her to leave. She doesn't. He then starts pushing her. She fights back. She pushes him on the floor. He holds on and pulls her down with him. He uses his force to keep her under him. And then :
"He grabbed both her hands in one of his, squeezing them together so she couldn't fight him. Without even thinking, he reached down and ripped away her underwear. Her nails dug into the back of his hand as he slid his fingers inside her.
'Asshole," she hissed, but she was so wet Will could barely feel his fingers moving in and out. (...)
'Stop it,' she demanded, but she was moving against his hand, tensing with each stroke. He unzipped his pants and pushed himself inside her. She tried to tighten against him, but he pushed harder, forcing her to open up."
In the end, she enjoys it and has an orgasm. I don't care. The fact that she's wet, that she has pleasure, doesn't change a thing, because we really don't need more scenes like these in medias, scenes in which no means yes. What the hell. Do I really have to explain why? WHY THE FUCK DO WE LET PEOPLE IMPLY THAT THE BOUNDARIES BETWEEN ANGER AND DESIRE ARE SO THIN? They aren't. Why are we excusing this kind of behavior?
We need to stop dismissing this as 'rough sex' : that's not rough sex, that's rape.
And THEN the guy dares think, "He was so sick of this, so sick of the way Angie drove him to extremes" Oh, no no no, you don't. You don't get to feel sorry for yourself and find excuses. Angie is bad news, but she's also been abused in the past. This doesn't excuse her behavior, but it doesn't excuse Will either because guess what, jerk, you are always responsible for your own actions. Again, I hate Angie, but no. No you don't. Even if she enjoys it after, it doesn't change a thing. Will is still this guy who forces himself on her and who doesn't stop when she asks him to and I don't want to read about that fucking guy.
Yes, she wanted to have sex with him before their argument. But that's not how consent works. Consent can be withdrawn at ANY moment. That's sex 101 for crying out loud.
The issue is never addressed after because Will never acknowledges that what he did wasn't right. The narration implies that it's all Angie's fault, and I'm not here for that. Oh no I'm not.
Secondly, what is IT with Faith's internalized misogyny? Amanda's? Is there ONE person in that entire book who doesn't act like a sexist pig? Actually, yes, there's Will. Right. Too bad he's our resident's rapist. I said before that I understood the need to picture a realistic world. But again, you can portray flawed characters without creating a world entirely filled with complete assholes. You can use your narrative to help dismantling stereotypes.
It's called talent.
Here it was sometimes done, but way too rarely for me. This is rape culture at its finest, where everyone including women think of women as petty bitches. The whole thing felt dehumanizing and that was very lazy storytelling.
Finally : the victims. The way anorexia was handled felt very offensive to me, and I'm not sure why the parallel between their bitchy attitude and their eating disorder was drawn so tightly. I understand that it revolved around the killer's reasons for choosing them, but it still did not sit well with me.
I just can't believe no one called Will out on his rape. I'm just - I'm feeling sick and I want to cry.

Karen Slaughter doesn't make violence pretty; these are not cozy mysteries to wile away the hours. I am not preaching against those types of mysteries, because I like them too. She does public service by not dressing up sexual psychopaths. These men are sick and what they do to women is repugnant and nightmare-enducing, that said she also knows people and that's what brings me back to her novels again and again. The violence is tough to read, but the fine people who try to help by solving these horrific crimes, though damaged themselves, are worthy of our attention.

RE-Read - I still love Will Trent ... Angie didn't annoy me as much this time around. She is still a total bitch. I am wary to start the TV show - the characters (actors) are NOTHING like the book description or how I had envisaged them in my mind ... except Betty.
Seriously, he is NOT A BIT LIKE "our Will" - might just stick to the books ... I did the audible this time and enjoyed the Narrator.

This series is a spin off from the Grant County series... I had started this series when I realised that one of the character who was going to show up in this series already featured in the other series... Now I am a bit of a stickler for reading in order, so I had to stop this series and go back to the other. Confused yet??
Will and Faith work for the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation). These two. Lord above, they sure have some baggage and interesting pasts, especially Will. He is not even my typical hero/leading man but I do love him. I want to take care of him. I want him to have a lovely life... I want him to tell Angie to FUCK OFF.
When I started this series, I wasn't sure how the romantic theme was going to go. I sort of wanted Will and Faith together but I think they are better as work partners ... but I want them to be friends. I want them to open up more to each other. Fingers crossed.

Ouch, Faith, not nice ... she did her training as much as a "real" doctor.
SARA
It was great to catch up with Sara. She has moved to Atlanta. Three years or more have passed since that harrowing event in her life.
Some of the scenes are fairly gruesome. Won't go into much detail. There are a lot of religious connotations also, which were interesting.
We have some side characters who appear throughout the books. Amanda. Jeez, she's a bit of a bitch. But I guess she didn't get that high up the ladder in what, in reality, is a "man's world."

No comment really about her. I think the author portrays her as a person we are not supposed to like. I certainly don't like her. But they have a history together.
Will. What to say about Will? I want him to be happy. I want him to have the white picket fence.

Undone by Karin Slaughter is a 2009 Delacorte Press publication.
This third book in the Will Trent series creates a link with the Grant County series by introducing Sara Linton to the series.
Sara is from Grant County, but has relocated to Atlanta following the death of her husband. She meets Faith and Will at the hospital when Faith has a fainting spell, but soon finds herself embroiled in the case Will and Faith are working on.
Several women who have been tortured or are missing has Faith and Will working overtime, while dealing with their own personal demons and various disabilities. A lot happens in this installment and like the first two in the series, this one had me on the edge of seat the entire time I was reading it. But, now that I have settled into the series a little more, I find myself becoming quite involved with Will and Faith鈥檚 personal lives, as well as the case at hand.
I love complicated and flawed characters and Will is one of those types that tugs at my emotions. This time around I got so frustrated with him and Angie, I wanted to throw the book across the room. Seriously, I had to take a break for a while and calm down.
But the crime drama was absolutely insane! The last quarter of the book hits you with one Shockwave after another, leaving feeling almost weak with exhaustion. Good stuff!
Overall, I鈥檇 say this book deserves the old five- star treatment. Can鈥檛 wait for the next book in the series!

I told myself I was going to write this review before starting Broken so here I am and I'm going to try and make it quick.
Undone is my favorite so far of the Will Trent Series and I really should be taking the time to write a full review with perfect pictures but the next book is waiting on my Kindle! :)
For me this was the most gruesome of the three books. As with the others the writing was gripping and captivating. It created such vivid thoughts for me which at times had me squeezing my eyes shut and chanting oh my god, oh my god鈥� I guess I am a little twisted then to say that this is my favorite but it was.
The plot centers on women who share common threads. Someone believes they should be tormented and that they don鈥檛 belong. Some of the scenes are rather brutal and were difficult to read through. I had a constant feeling of dread. There are biblical references that make you stop and contemplate. I found myself completely immersed with Will and Faith as they set out to find this psycho.
I continue to appreciate the development of all the main characters as well as the introduction of new characters. In Undone we meet Sara Linton. I鈥檓 excited to find out where KS takes this character. She has some baggage she brings with her. Sadness and heartache that she desperately needs to let go of. I like her.
Amanda continues to be a thorn in Will鈥檚 side. Quite honestly, this woman is ruthless and at times dispassionate. Faith really shined in this one. I love her "I don鈥檛 take shit from anyone" attitude. She wears it well. Her relationship with Will is starting to bloom both professionally and personally. She is good for him and that makes me happy. They haven鈥檛 crossed the romantic line and I don鈥檛 know if I would want them too. Time will tell I guess.
And Will. There are so many shades of this man. With every book there is a little more revealed. I feel happiness and sadness for him all at the same time. He has ability to make me laugh and in this one he had the ability to make me cry. There was a scene towards the end of the book that I sobbed through....Will did not move for anything. He lay on the floor all night, until the sun coming through the windows told him it was time to go back to work. I want him; no I need him to be happy. 鉂�
Once again, I can鈥檛 end my review without a word or two about Angie. My hatred continues. I get it already. I understand their relationship but I want it to be over.
Moving on though and I鈥檓 off to read more of this AMAZING series!

A naked woman runs across a highway and is struck by a mobile home. Brought to Grady Hospital, she is attended to by Doctor Sara Linton who moved from Grant County to Atlanta four years ago. Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell of the GBI investigate as the bodies pile up.
A taut mystery/thriller that brings Will Trent and Sara Linton together. Hmm. Not sure how I feel about this (though I already had an inkling having read 鈥淭he Last Widow鈥� before the entire Grant County series.. lol!). Will Trent is a serious man and a loner. He鈥檚 never really let anyone in, not even his wife Angie with whom he has an on again off again relationship and who he has known since childhood. I want more for Will Trent - especially given the childhood he had and he definitely deserves more than Angie - that鈥檚 for sure, I just can鈥檛 say what that is. Sara Linton moved away from Grant County years ago to try and make a fresh start at Grady Hospital, back where it all started for her, in the ER. Sara hasn鈥檛 really had a life these last few years, yet that might be about to change. Truthfully, I鈥檓 not sure I love this potential pairing and I am guessing that I鈥檓 totally alone here.. but my heart is still back in Grant County.
I鈥檒l tell you what I do like about this series: the pairing of Will Trent and Faith Mitchell as partners. Faith has spark! I love how she trades barbs with Will and he is often left speechless. I just adore Faith鈥檚 character and can鈥檛 wait to see what鈥檚 in store for her.
The mystery itself was full of twists and turns that really got me. The storyline almost made my heart stop near the end and there was a moment where I had to put the book down to catch my breath.

Genesis is officially my favourite of Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series. I think I have read it previously when it was titled Undone.
One of those lovely books where you find yourself holding your breath, without realising you are doing it until you suddenly let it out!
I strongly recommend this series which is a mix of crime/thriller/romance.
One of those lovely books where you find yourself holding your breath, without realising you are doing it until you suddenly let it out!
I strongly recommend this series which is a mix of crime/thriller/romance.

Undone is definitely my favorite book in the series so far. Karin Slaughter is masterful and comes up with some seriously twisted plots and characters. As with the first two books, I continue to adore Will, but in this one, I absolutely despised Angie. And now with Sara being introduced in the book, I really feel the need to start reading the Grant County series before moving forward with this one, but I want to read the next one in this series, big dilemma. And now I need to go to bed early because I stayed up way too late last night finishing this one because I just couldn't put it down. 4.5 stars.

Will Trent and Sara Linton in the same book!!!!!!!! I can't read this fast enough. I loved the Grant County series. I could not read those books fast enough and I was so sad when that series ended with a BANG. But now I'm hooked with Will Trent and What! What! What! Sara Linton is in this book? Yes, Yes, and Yes!
A young woman enters the Trauma center where Sara now works. After her husbands death, Sara has left Grant County and now works at a hospital in Atlanta. She is on duty when the naked, tortured woman is brought in for treatment. She literally shoves Will Tent out of the way in order to treat her patient. I loved this! Sara continues to be a strong female character.
Will Trent is a the hospital with his partner Faith, when the tortured young woman is brought into he Emergency Room. He inserts himself in the investigation of what happened to this woman and bringing the perpetrator to justice. He treats the tortured woman with kindness and touches her foot tenderly which catches Sara's eye. He throws himself into the investigation and we get to see his brilliant mind at play. He continues to hide his dyslexia and fears it being found out by others. A little more is told about Will Trent. I have a feeling that with each book, a little more will be disclosed about him. Then there is his wife, Angie. I don't like her. I don't like her with Will. She is emotionally abusive. Why does he stay with her? Yes, they grew up in a group home together. Yes, she knows him better than anyone. But knowing someone and using their sad, horrible past as a way of hurting them does not for a healthy relationship make.
Will Trent will not be the only character we learn more about, I have a feeling we will be seeing more of Faith in upcoming books. She is at the hospital receiving care (from Sara of course) and this opens up a story line for her as well. I like her attitude. We also get a little more of Amanda (Will's boos)in this one. Will is surrounded by strong women which makes his relationship with Angie so hard to swallow.
The investigation of the tortured woman continues while another victim is quickly found by Will. Another woman goes missing and soon it appears that they missing women are similar in certain aspects. How do they all tie together? Who is taking them? What will happen next? Where will the beginning friendship with Sara take Will?
Slaughter continues to dazzle with her character development. She continues to shine when writing carnage (is this a compliment) she does a good job giving us evil characters who do the unthinkable. She has a plot that is well thought out with twists and turns. This was a page turner for me!
Keep em coming Slaughter. I have a feeling she is just getting warmed up with this series.

5 super chilling stars
Oh, Karin Slaughter! You are sucking me in even more. I love learning more about Will Trent and he meets Sara Linton in this one, reminding me all about why I love her character. Karin, you are so good at creating characters I root for -- Will and Sara -- and creating characters I root against but somehow understand why they act that way -- Angie and Lena. Signs of a great writer!
This chilling story starts out with the grisly discovery of a woman who has been assaulted and then she's been hit by a car after escaping. Sara works on her at the hospital and Will is present in his role with the GBI. A very professional first meeting for these two!
The rest of the book is a chase to find the madman behind the attacks before he takes more women. At the same time, we learn how Sara has coped in the last three years since she's moved to Atlanta. There's more shared about Will's partner Faith and I'm curious how that goes in the next books!
I can't think of anything to reduce stars for in this one. I raced to the ending and was shocked, as I often am in Slaughter's books, by the conclusion.
We'll see how long I can wait to read #4. Thank you to my local library for having all of these as e-books.

I enjoyed this entry in the Will Trent series. I don鈥檛 remember much about the second book in the series, but I do remember I didn鈥檛 really care for it as much as previous Slaughter titles so I was worried that maybe this would not be the series for me. But, with the ties back to Grant County and the uniquely bizarre mystery I was able to stay invested in this one. Also, one thing that sometimes turns me off to mysteries that did not happen with this one is that it did not seem to become intentionally convoluted and confusing. Often, I feel like authors figure if they make the mystery as confusing as possible it will constitute a good book. Or maybe I am just easily confused! 馃槉
As always, Slaughter brings the gore. Her books 鈥� Undone being no different 鈥� are not for the faint of heart. So, if your gorge rises easily, proceed with caution!

Lately every answer to every question while engaging with my fab booksta friends has been Will Trent, I feel like I鈥檓 smashing them about him. Hopefully some lucky readers will take me up on my recommendation. I am here to say right now I am loving it.
In my favourite series I prefer character development over plot; KS delivers perfectly. Not to say the storylines aren鈥檛 fabulous, they absolutely are. Each character drawn deeply into my heart, their thoughts, emotions, nuance, their motivations seep through every single moment. Not a word wasted, an action unaccounted for.
In this one, I adored the relationship between Will and his feisty partner, Faith. With her own stuff going on, he never once lost patience, he cared for her, often unsaid. He kissed her head. Offered to attend a personal appointment. In turn, she propped up those moments he couldn鈥檛 cope, without question. Enter Sara Linton. Witness Will witness her. I CANNOT WAIT. Listen to Will鈥檚 misgivings as to why he can鈥檛 be loved. The author has planned all this to perfection.
An unseen part of Will鈥檚 character unexpectedly popped up, but there was a reason. The more we dive into this series, the more we learn about him. Heartbreaking facts, making me love him more. Angie and he with their ultra complexity, one scene making me freeze, rewind and soak it all in.
I loved this one, quickly moving on to number 4 with only one break in between. I鈥檒l be devastated when I can鈥檛 source them all on audio, as I鈥檝e already gotten a fab librarian at my local to help me. Pretty much on speed dial.

Another brilliant book from Karin slaughter,I think you should read the books in order to get to know the characters as i was glad to see Sara Linton back in the books she's such a strong character.karins crimes books are really gritty.and bringing up diabetes showing how serious the condition is,I'm going to read the next book in the will Trent series broken.and i bet it's just as good.

Well, I'm definitely whole-heartedly invested in this series now. And Will Trent has permanently gotten under my skin and into my heart. What can I say... Will, Will, Will. He is finally starting to break... to let some light into the cracks of that concrete wall he's erected around his heart. I've said it before and I'll say it again. it is impossible not to love this man.
This book has finally started giving me a little insight into the characters.. Will and his GBI partner Faith Mitchell are finally starting to find a common ground as partners.
And the more they get to know each other the closer they get. They fight like brother and sister, and yet there is this unspoken bond between them. Some secrets still remain between them, but they are slowly opening up to each other in ways that neither of them had expected. And there is now this spirit of over-protectiveness on both of their parts. For Will it relates to Faith's health issues, and for Faith it is Will's gentle and damaged soul, that until now has been his claim to fame. But it seems that the monster within is finally finding it's way to the surface.
Faith is struggling with her personal life at the moment, and most of all some personal health issues that might affect her entire future. But still she carries on with her stressful job. She rarely lets her guard down, and I'm finding I really really like her. She is tough and funny as hell. And I love how she has taken Will under her wing, but not in a patronizing way, but instead in a caring and respectful way.
Then there is Amanda Wagner,
their ball-busting boss, who up until now I have really disliked. But, more and more as I learn about her history, and see her in action. I am really starting to love this character. But I must say, her motivations are still quite the mystery. And something about her harsh attitude towards Will, and now even his new partner, has me sensing a feeling of deep loyalty between them.
Now Angie Polaski,
WIll's now , she is fucking up royally. And she is tormenting Will with the power she holds over him. I see bad things in her future. At least a girl can dream, right?
Sara Linton, MD is the new girl in town.
There are still some secrets to come out about her past. I am looking forward to learning more about her story. And I'll thrilled that Will is finally starting to see the normal possibilities in a woman like Sara. And I think that she has more than noticed him. Can't wait to see where this relationship goes!
Anyway, the crimes in this book are gruesome as usual. I found it a touch more predictable that the last book, but in a good way. The story was more cohesive, and less erratic. Can't wait to jump into book 4!

This was a re read for me. I rarely read books again unless I am in a slunp and need a guarenteed success to pull me out of it. This time it was really because I enjoyed loved, her latest book in the series; The Last Widow so much, I wanted to revisit her earlier work from the series. Even though the story came flooding back to me as I read. Karin Slaughter's style of writing with fast paced scenes and constantly throwing up cliff hangers at the end of chapters. Just mean't I could enjoy the hard work and expertise that had gone into it even more without trying to solve the case as well.

I very much enjoyed this third thriller in Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series, although I'm wondering if I should have read her Grant County series first as a character with history in that series, Dr Sara Linton, has crossed over to this one in Atlanta. No problem so far but I suspect we're going to see more of her in future books.
This was a very suspenseful thriller opening with an elderly couple running into a naked woman running down the road. As well as being hit by their car, she is in a dreadful condition, after being starved, beaten and tortured in horrendous ways for several days. Special agents Will Trent and Faith Mitchell from the Georgia Bureau Investigation take over the case when they discover another victim and suspect that a recently abducted woman might also be about to undergo the same fate. It becomes a race against time to find the links between these women and the warped individual torturing them.
Karin Slaughter's thrillers are always very character driven and the relationships between the characters are key to enjoying them. Will Trent is an abandoned child who grew up and suffered abuse in the State foster system. He is dyslexic and has trouble reading, although he was smart enough to get through high school and college and uses special software to help him at work. Faith, his partner, knows of his disability and as she values him highly as a smart and honest cop, helps to cover for him when required. Will and Faith's boss also knows about his reading difficulty but despite being cold and hard-nosed is prepared to overlook it for her best detective. This episode reveals that Faith is also likely to need some help and understanding from both Will and Amanda in the future.

Undone is the third book in the Will Trent series.
Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell are part of the GBI. When the book begins, Faith had passed out and she has been taken to the ER. Here is where Will will meet Sara Linton for the first time.
Sara Linton was the main protagonist from Karin Slaughter's Grant series. She's a pediatrician as well as a coroner back in Grant County. In Undone, she has moved to Atlanta and is working as an ER doc. Something horrible happened to her 3 1/2 years ago and she needed a change of scenery. She's still healing.
鈥淎nd now, when she looked in the mirror and saw a new line on her own face,a new wrinkle, all she could think was that she was growing old without him鈥�
At the same time that Faith is in the ER, a woman is brought in. She was hit by a car but a lot more has happened to her before the car accident. What she has suffered turns her into a GBI investigation. A serial killer is on the loose and Will, Faith, and Sara will all be involved in the investigation.
Another amazing book in the Will Trent series. It has become one of my favorite series. The character development is extensive and thoughtful.
My thoughts on the main players:
Will---> So damaged. His past has marked him and despite being a smart man he has many vulnerabilities. One his wife loves to exploit.

He asked, 鈥淗ow would she know how long Anna was kept?鈥�
鈥淪he used to be a coroner in some county way down south.鈥�
Will鈥檚 eyebrows went up. He slowed to look at another sign. 鈥淎 coroner? That鈥檚 weird.鈥�
He was one to talk. 鈥淪he was a coroner and a pediatrician.鈥�
Will mumbled as he tried to make out the sign. 鈥淚 took her for a dancer.鈥�
鈥淲oodland,鈥� Faith read. 鈥淎 dancer? She鈥檚 twenty feet tall.鈥�
鈥淒ancers can be tall.鈥�
Faith --> I like her but gosh she can be mean! Luckily it didn't last. She's starting to trust Will and their relationship is more like siblings.
鈥淚 am just an awful, awful person, Sara. I can鈥檛 believe I said that to you.鈥�
Sara--> I loved Sara from the moment I first started reading the Grant series. She's awesome and she was great in Undone too. She deserves happiness and I hope she achieves it with Will at some point.
Amanda Wagner--> She's tough on Will and also with Faith but I do think she protects them and cares for them.
Angie--> Not my favorite character. She uses Will and she doesn't care about his feelings. She had a tough past as well but this doesn't give her a free pass to hurt Will constantly.
Betty- Will's dog. Love her.
鈥淪ara studied him. "Is that a Chihuahua behind your back?""No, I'm just happy to see you"Sara gave him a confused smile, and he reluctantly showed her Betty.鈥�

Agent Will Trent and his partner, Faith, step in to work the case and figure out just what has happened to this poor woman. As the story unfolds there are twists and turns, it's a wild ride.
The compassion Slaughter shows for her protagonists, and the pure evil she is able to convey about her antagonists is a rare gift. In this story, even the surroundings themselves become indispensable. Well done! Magnificent writing.

I just this year started the series and the writing is excellent. I give this book a strong recommend and plan to read the next book soon. So why not 5* there was just something irritating about all the characters...from the victims to the main characters. I read the book over 3 days, so it captured my interest and held it. This book seemed more about what is happening with the main characters with the crime as a backdrop for their development. The book was written 15 years ago and has held up well.

This author really knows how to write. I think every book so far in this series I've given 5 stars to it. It is full of suspense! Wow! Wow! Wow! I could not put this book down in the last 120 pages. It really got my adrenaline going. It flows so well. I really loved what I read. I just love Will Trent. If you really want to read a good thriller and a good series, this one is it! It will blow you away. I do have to say this series is definitely not for the faint at heart. It took me awhile to catch my breath. My muscles are still so tense. This is why I love to read. This is the kind of book that gives me that Wow factor, that I am always looking for and I found it! Have you read this series yet, or this author, she is dynamite!

If I hadn鈥檛 read Karin Slaughter previously, I might have been a bit put off just a few pages into the prologue of Undone. Having read quite a few of Slaughter鈥檚 previous thrillers, I was expecting something dramatic by, oh, the second paragraph. So I was almost lulled into complacency when it hit me 鈥� or rather, when Henry Coldfield and his wife Judith hit a woman as they drove at dusk one evening. Thus began the heart-pounding, stomach-churning tale that is Undone.
For those who have not finished the Grant County series, this book may contain spoilers, because Ms. Slaughter brings back Dr. Sara Linton. It is over three years since her husband Jeffrey was killed, and Sara has moved to Atlanta to work in the ER at Grady Hospital, away from her parents and her practice, away from whatever might remind her of her late husband. Sara, who feels lost and must somehow find meaning in her life again.
This book brings together Sara, Special Agent Will Trent, and Will鈥檚 partner Faith Mitchell. Each is flawed in his or her own way, and rather than judging their weaknesses, Ms. Slaughter seems to put the imperfections out there as if to say, 鈥渋t is what it is; deal with it.鈥� Somehow, each 鈥渨eakness鈥� becomes a strength, if not for that individual, then for the partner, as bonds are formed and strengthened. Call it forced compromise. Teamwork. Will is dyslexic. Faith learns that she is diabetic and pregnant. The two cops are polar opposites on the social skills scale, and each has problems there too. They have been partners for about a year at this point, and while they still drive each other crazy sometimes, at this point they seem to have an alliance that works well for them more often than not. It is the first time that Will and Faith meet Sara Linton, and this evokes some conflicting emotions for all as the story moves along.
The two Special Agents and Dr. Linton meet at the ER. The woman who was hit by the car turns out to have escaped from a psychopathic kidnapper who tortured her and another woman in horrendous ways. We don鈥檛 read these events as they occur, thankfully; just having them revealed after the fact is upsetting enough. The hunt for clues and suspects begins. There may be more victims.
I had a good idea who the perpetrator was early on, but the story was more complex, of course, than what I could imagine. In true Slaughter fashion, there are moral questions to be faced 鈥� by the killer鈥檚 family, by Will, by Faith, and even by the victims. There鈥檚 no happy-ever-after ending either, even after the bad guy is caught. As always, scars remain, inside and out.

For those who have not finished the Grant County series, this book may contain spoilers, because Ms. Slaughter brings back Dr. Sara Linton. It is over three years since her husband Jeffrey was killed, and Sara has moved to Atlanta to work in the ER at Grady Hospital, away from her parents and her practice, away from whatever might remind her of her late husband. Sara, who feels lost and must somehow find meaning in her life again.

I just discovered Karin Slaughter, and as most of you know, there's nothing as good as finding a "new" (to you) author who has many books already published. No "waiting for the next one to come out" anxiety!
Before I had finished "Fractured" I KNEW I had to have "Undone"...and I wasn't disappointed. Slaughter came through for me again, with excellent suspense and a great cast of characters brought to life flawlessly and with depth.
Having never read the 'Grant County' series, I was afraid the reintroduction of Sara Linton would either confuse me (because I'd never heard of her) or mess up what I think is great chemistry between my favorite Georgia detectives Will Trent and Faith Mitchell. But the author works these three characters together seamlessly. *for more about these characters, please see my (or anyone's) reviews of earlier novels. It should also be noted that you need NOT know the backgrounds of these characters to enjoy this book. Yes, it is part of a series, but EACH BOOK STANDS ALONE JUST FINE!
I've recommended "Undone" to friends, but always with a warning: this is a tale of a dark, violent, SERIOUSLY twisted sociopath and Ms. Slaughter doesn't pull her punches. The book doesn't include ACTS of torture or violence, but certainly & thoroughly DESCRIBES the aftermath. The author's villain in this mystery/suspense novel is BEYOND demented and sadistic.
Ms. Slaughter, I am learning, is an expert at leading her readers in so many directions--all connected, yet separate-- that during "Undone", at one time or another, I was SURE that everyone but the cops was the "guy who did it". And ya gotta love a crime novel that you can't figure out til the end!

This is my first book by Karin Slaughter, and I have a few issues with it.
Her detective, Will Trent can't read or write and doesn't know his right from left. Yet despite this
he has somehow managed to get through all the police department tests, and write reports every
day at work. And how has he done this? Because his partner covers for him. She reads street signs
out loud, and helps him with his e-mails. Oh really.
The other main issue is the way the author makes giant leaps in the plot with no explanation.
I struggle to write plots, all writers and wannabe writers do. It's hard to come up with something
original, exciting and yet coherent.
Think about it. How does the cop find the secret cave, underground in miles of woods?
There is no easy answer. The author needs to lay a believable trail for the police to track the victims or the killer.
Or that's what you might think. In this case, the author simply has the cop go searching in miles of
woods in the dark, and find the trapdoor by stubbing his toe on it.
More plot issues -
How did the women escape from the cave in the first place? By unscrewing a bed. Again, oh really?
1) If you were going to go to all the trouble of digging a cave, you'd find a way to shackle the women to something.
2) The first victim is hit by a car belonging to the killer's mom and dad just out for a drive at night.
What are the chances? Absolutely none.
3) Will's boss, appears from nowhere at the end, to shoot the killer.
She is office based so why would she be out and about? No reason. But the author had ran out of options.
The editor and the publisher need to take some of the blame for this. It's their job to clean up for
the author before the book goes to print. Most of the issues could have been explained properly
with some imagination.
My usual moan - Why does every author in the world have to tell us every road, street and
interstate they use to get somewhere? This is rhetorical, because I don't care. Yet they seem to
think by giving me directions for Atlanta, it gives the book some kind of authenticity. Well, it
doesn't. I skip over those bits.

Loving this series more with each book. I love Will, and I'm happy he's gaining some confidence and backbone. I think the pairing with Faith was an excellent decision by Amanda, even though Faith was really moody in this installment. You can't really blame her, though.
I strongly suspected the identity of the killer early on, but I didn't know for sure until very late. Still, there were surprises, and the story was thoroughly addictive! Parts were a little difficult to stomach in the beginning, what the victims went through, but a lot was discovered after the fact, and as a reader you didn't witness it first hand, so I was really thankful for that. I think I dreaded the possibility of having a front row seat while the psycho was at work, and that didn't end up happening. Phew!
Dr. Sara Linton is a fine addition to this cast of characters, and I have high hopes for a romance in the future. The seeds of interest are definitely there. Fingers crossed.
I'm so thankful Phil Gigante wasn't the narrator this time around. Natalie Ross was excellent with both male and female voices. Love her Southern accent!
