this story is a heartfelt ode to falling in love with life and it couldnt have come at a better time.
we all know 2020 has been a disaster, so its natural and understandable to be feeling a bit down. but this story is such a good reminder that its the small things that give our life meaning. and CA has crafted such a beautiful story to exemplify that message and help put things into perspective.
this is exactly the kind of feel good, positive vibes that ive been needing. <3

The thing about chick lit is that it's simple. It has cliches, it's highly predictable, but it doesn't make you want to gag. You enjoy it. You expect it. You want it. It can deal with serious topics but not be about them. It doesn't romanticize them.
One of the things this Cecelia Ahern's novel deals with is suicide. Our main character Christine Rossi has witnessed a man kill himself. She tried to help him, but just when she thought she convinced him, she did something wrong. Still getting over the tragedy, Christine crosses the Ha'penny Bridge. And again she sees a man about to jump off the bridge to kill himself.
鈥淭hey say lightning never strikes twice. Untrue. Well,it's true that people say it; it's just untrue as a fact.鈥�
Christine, desperate to discourage him from taking his life, makes a deal with him: She has two weeks (until his 35th birthday) to prove to him that life is still worth living.
I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. But I read it at exactly the right time. With every adventure Christine and Adam were embarking upon I was getting a little bit better. The book got me half-way out of a terrible mood.
I read 3/4 of Cecilia Ahern's other novel in the beginning of last year. I stopped reading it because I started reading other books and then forgot about it. Which is unfortunate because I do remember quite enjoying it. Ahern has a way of writing that is both hilarious and inspirational. Her humor is that kind of humor that you might not laugh out loud to, but you can't help but smile at the freaking wit of the woman. I couldn't keep a straight face.
All in All: Whenever you are in a bad mood, I would recommend this book. The experience of the characters feels real even with its cliches. The romance is cute and quite slow burning. It deals with suicide and it doesn't romanticize it. I was delighted.

I have been head over heels in love with Cecelia Ahern right from the moment I started reading her debut novel, PS I Love You, way back in 2007. Ever since then I have obsessed over all of her books and as soon as I heard of this one I was dying to get my hands on it. I pretty much screamed and jumped up and down for a good 10 minutes in excitement before I calmed down enough to crack open the book and read... and I devoured it in one sitting.
Christine has just encountered the most horrifying event. Seeing a man shoot himself in the head changed her life forever. Deciding that she wasn't happy in her life she decided she needed to change before it was too late. After ending her marriage and determined to start again she embarks on a journey she will never forget. Enter Adam. Adam is planning a suicide but Christine stops him from jumping from the Halfpenny Bridge and she promises him that she can help him to enjoy life again. As Christine and Adam are forced together Christine is determined to show him how fun life can be but as they embark on the journey sparks start to fly... can Christine help Adam and let him go at the end? Or are they destined for more?
How To Fall in Love is an addictive and heartwarming love story. Cecelia Ahern has blown me away yet again. There's just something about Cecelia's novels where she just brings a little magic into them and they are just like a modern day fairytale. How To Fall in Love is no different. I absolutely adored every single second this book and is just may be my favourite Cecelia Ahern novel to date. It's fantastic. Cecelia's writing style is phenomenal. She pulls you in right form the start and doesn't let you go until well after the story is over.
How To Fall in Love is unique, beautiful and uplifting. It is a book that has such a fantastic meaning underneath that it will stay with you long after you have finished reading. It beautiful and magical. It's not just a chick lit love story. The love story isn't the most important aspect of the story. The most important part is showing you that life is hard and though there are many times when we feel like the bad times will never be over we still have to go on. Life is a beautiful thing no matter how difficult it is. Cecelia Ahern is just my hero. I adore her and her novels always have a beautiful uplifting message in them so that when you finish reading you are left feeling like you can face anything.
How To Fall in Love is without a doubt one of the best book I have read this year. I devoured the book in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. It was utter perfection. It was beautiful and moving. Uplifting and Magical. Cecelia Ahern is magical! She is utterly phenomenal and everyone has to read her books. They are perfect and incredible. How To Fall in Love is without a doubt a must-read for everyone. It will make you fall in love and have you wanting to just hug the book forever. I loved every single second of it and I will be waiting on tenter hooks for Cecelia's next heartwarming book.

How To Fall in Love is Cecelia's 10th book.
This story focuses on Christine Rose, who works in recruitment and has an obsession with self-help books. One night she witnesses a terrible incident with a terrible outcome, and it prompts her to make a life-changing decision. Just a few weeks later, she witnesses a similar terrible incident, but this time the outcome is different. She befriends Adam, a troubled man trying to win his ex-girlfriend back. Christine immediately takes it upon herself to "fix" his situation - essentially giving herself two weeks to show a man how to love life again.
I'm used to Cecelia's somewhat juvenile style of writing, which is okay. I expect that from her books - I crave it sometimes when I've been on a crime binge, it's like putting on a pair of fluffy socks. I'm even used to insta-romance and "quirky" leads. What I can't get on board with is the notion of someone befriending a complete stranger with obvious mental and emotional issues and basically becoming their shadow. The entire focus is on Adam's mental state, but it's Christine who I find completely unhinged. She makes decisions no rational person would ever make.
The whole story was far fetched, and full of filler - there's an arc about finding out a family secret which has nothing to do with the main story and is never resolved. There's another one involving a detective which we could have happily done without, in particular the chapter about his daughter. I suspect it was the author's way of addressing the recent phenomenon of "slut-shaming", but it came across as 'Oh that would tie in, I'll just whack that in the middle here'. It bore no relevance to the rest of the main characters, and went nowhere. I also thought we had too much of Christine's "bonkers" family. I didn't find them relatable or interesting in any way.
Overall, I found the writing childish, the characters unlikeable, the storyline unbelievable, and the main female lead incredibly irritating and irresponsible. I don't even know how to describe it - it's a muddle.

This was my first go with a Cecilia Ahern novel and I feel like writing Cecilia a heart-felt letter of thanks for writing this book. I don't even know where to start except to say I hope to see this on the silver screen soon (I would also be happy to make suggestions on the casting :)) It needs to be a movie.
I had no problems with the book... Nicely paced and she never draws out a scene and make it longer than it needs to be. The characters are relatable and so easy to fall in love with.
I read some of the other reviews and I remember there being a few issues with the plot (it not being realistic enough). In my opinion, this is fiction. If it seems too real it would fail completely. And about loose ends (I am reffering to scene with two "Eastern European" men) to me it tied in perfectly with the rest of the book. They were doing something random and then happened upon something random and dangerous... Just as random as finding someone stood upon a bridge ready to jump. Such is the wonder of life

Cecelia Ahern is one of my favourite authors, and with good reason. She has a way with words. She has a way with taking difficult topics, in this case suicide, and turn it into a book that鈥檚 somehow light and makes you smile. There鈥檚 always a touch of magic around her stories, something that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. And How to Fall in Love is no different.
Christine goes through life swearing by self-help books. How to Fire an Employee, How to Write A Self-Help Book, How to Enjoy Life. But no book can prepare her when she stumbles across Adam, standing on a bridge and about to kill himself. Christine manages to talk him out of it by promising to show him the beauty of life. She鈥檚 given exactly two weeks before Adam tries to kill himself again. So Christine helps him get his girlfriend back, helps him enjoy the little things in life, helps him with family issues. Only things get a little complicated when Christine finds herself falling in love with Adam.
I have to admit, there were parts that didn鈥檛 quite work for me. I thought Christine was sometimes a bit too thorough, walking in on him showering on purpose just to check if he wasn鈥檛 trying to kill himself. I get it, he鈥檚 suicidal, but there is such a thing as privacy, and some of the scenes felt weird.
However, once Christine and Adam start to really get along, things are wonderful. There were some scenes that really stood out to me, such as the time when they took a pie baking class together, or the time when Adam dressed up as Where鈥檚 Waldo and chased his ex-girlfriend around town with Christine in tow. When there was banter, it was glorious. When a scene had to be cute, it was freaking adorable. I can 鈥渃omplain鈥� about Ahern usually waiting until the very end for the couple to really get together, so about halfway through I found myself looking a little bit like this:
But when they do get together, it鈥檚 very satisfying. I also really liked Christine鈥檚 family 鈥� blunt and straightforward to the point of me laughing at pretty much everything they said. They鈥檒l talk about suicide as if you鈥檙e talking about the morning weather, and it was hilarious and incredibly refreshing.
In a way, How to Fall in Love is a self-help book for us too. It鈥檚 not just a love story, but it鈥檚 a story about how to fall in love with life. It鈥檚 sweet, it鈥檚 light, it鈥檚 fluffy and funny. And you will absolutely fall in love with it.

Todos los libros de esta autora estan tan llenos de sentimientos, sensaciones, pesamientos que siempre termino enamorandome de ellos, no hay uno de los que lei que me decepcionara y aunque todos todos todos me encantaron demasiado este sin duda esta entre los que mas me gustaron.
Christine y Adam dos personas que se conocen a partir de una situaci贸n l铆mite, cada uno con una historia, cada uno con una vida y con personas a su alrededor, cada uno pasando por momentos complicados y a partir de ese encuentro cada uno va cambiando, va descubriendo cosas y asi va naciendo una relaci贸n muy particular que comienza como una ayuda mutua y termina en algo mas. Sufr铆 con Christine y me enoje con Adam siempre tan centrado en el mismo que no podia ver mas all谩 de su dolor.
Me encanto muchisimo Christine, una persona que vive para ayudar a los dem谩s, que necesita ayudar a los otros, con una historia de vida que no se revela hasta bien al final y que me hizo llorar como una loca. Me cautivo como ella intenta luchar contra eso que todos le dicen que es, como se esfuerza por no ser asi,como intenta mejorar y sobre todo como intenta disfrutar (aunque a veces no le salga) de la vida, con lo bueno y lo malo.
Es un libro donde la depresi贸n es una entidad presente y que nos muestra como esa palabra puede hacer tantas cosas en una persona, como puede manejar nuestros pensamientos, nuestros sentimientos, en conclusi贸n como puede manejar a una persona, a cualquier persona.
Como todos los libros de esta autora todos los personaje que rodean a los principales son geniales (en el final hasta entendi un poco mas a Barry al cual odie todo el libro), los dialogos son buenisimos y tiene unas frases tan lindas que marque casi todo el libro. En un momento, hasta la mitad del libro, pens茅 que en este iba a terminar invicta y no llorar, pero me equivoque totalmente y no fue mas que pasar la mitad del mismo y no parar de llorar hasta el final.
En conclusi贸n, es un libro que para mi fue hermoso, duro, divertido, tierno, lleno de frases y dialogos para destacar, si te gusta esta autora no lo dudes y leelo!!!!

Unpopular opinion: DNF because there're so many things that are fundamentally wrong with this book. Most of those many things, as I came to the realization, seemed to be related to the being of our heroine, Christine Rose.
Christine is possibly one of the worst characters I've ever encountered in a very long time. Where do I begin? First, she's incredibly selfish. Hers was the worst kind of selfishness because she didn't even seem to acknowledge it. She married her husband and found him boring, so she filed for a divorce (just because), and then she'd been trying to justify her action by playing victim ever since like, page 1, claiming she didn't know what she wanted. Well played, Christine, have you ever heard the word "communication" and "compromise"?, I guess no. Just played with someone's heart based on whatever you wanted at the time alright. Fucking asshole.
Second, she lived her life based on how-to books. Dude, seriously...
Third, she basically fell for Adam almost instantly simply because he was handsome (and rich). I mean, that's the only impression I got from her because it happened so fucking suspiciously easily, Christine.
Fourth, she's incredibly dull. I mean, we're talking about a person who got married because someone else did it. Who read how-to books and followed whatever things somebody did base on the subject because she wouldn't know how otherwise. Who had zero sense of humor (I find her family, on the other hand, hilarious and charming). This person had neither characters nor imagination. She's a fucking identity thief.....the bland kind!
Fifth, the last and the worst one. She's one of those people who seemed to jerk themselves off by spreading "kindness". Hah. She did "good things" to feel better about herself without really think of long term consequences or sustainability. I mean, here she followed Adam around instead of getting him to see a fucking professional therapist! And then made him do things based on a fucking paperback how-to books! she was so terrible with people in a way that implied that she never actually cared about humanity before, only imposed kindness on them as a mechanism to make her feel better about herself. That's some psychopath energy right there. Most of the things she made Adam do...left me shivering in cringefest. As if this wasn't enough, she was also stubborn about it as well, insisting that she cared and was kind and did well. Dear lord.
Trust me, I'm dealing with depression myself. Everything Christine did to Adam made me wanted to die sooner on his behalf. She's a doe-eyed cruelty personified.
Annnnnnnnnd every friggin time someone mentioned how "kind" Christine was, I just wanna hurl this book across the room because....
1.) marrying her husband and keeping his heart hostage because she didn't know what to do with her life wasn't kindness.
2.) Leaving the said husband because he bored her (without trying to communicate or anything at all) wasn't kindness.
3.) Trying to justify herself by chanting about her boring life with the said husband only to fall for the more handsome guy almost instantly right after separating from him wasn't kindness.

Long story short, by being in charge of Adam's life, Christine found her place as a savior - it gave her purpose possibly for the first time ever in her dull, colorless life. I bet she would dump him in no time in the future when Adam regained his former personality. Since Adam wasn't an improved character compared to her. I didn't actually care much about the guy, to be honest.
Anyway, that's how much I loathe this sorry excuse of a fictional human being named Christine. I DNF this book because I couldn't stand her. She's one dimensional, dull, selfish, manipulative, and dumb. God, I should just get a life and move on.
Unpopular opinion: DNF because there're so many things that are fundamentally wrong with this book. Most of those many things, as I came to the realization, seemed to be related to the being of our heroine, Christine Rose.
Christine is possibly one of the worst characters I've ever encountered in a very long time. Where do I begin? First, she's incredibly selfish. Hers was the worst kind of selfishness because she didn't even seem to acknowledge it. She married her husband and found him boring, so she filed for a divorce (just because), and then she'd been trying to justify her action by playing victim ever since like, page 1, claiming she didn't know what she wanted. Well played, Christine, have you ever heard the word "communication" and "compromise"?, I guess no. Just played with someone's heart based on whatever you wanted at the time alright. Fucking asshole.
Second, she lived her life based on how-to books. Dude, seriously...
Third, she basically fell for Adam almost instantly simply because he was handsome (and rich). I mean, that's the only impression I got from her because it happened so fucking suspiciously easily, Christine.
Fourth, she's incredibly dull. I mean, we're talking about a person who got married because someone else did it. Who read how-to books and followed whatever things somebody did base on the subject because she wouldn't know how otherwise. Who had zero sense of humor (I find her family, on the other hand, hilarious and charming). This person had neither characters nor imagination. She's a fucking identity thief.....the bland kind!
Fifth, the last and the worst one. She's one of those people who seemed to jerk themselves off by spreading "kindness". Hah. She did "good things" to feel better about herself without really think of long term consequences or sustainability. I mean, here she followed Adam around instead of getting him to see a fucking professional therapist! And then made him do things based on a fucking paperback how-to books! she was so terrible with people in a way that implied that she never actually cared about humanity before, only imposed kindness on them as a mechanism to make her feel better about herself. That's some psychopath energy right there. Most of the things she made Adam do...left me shivering in cringefest. As if this wasn't enough, she was also stubborn about it as well, insisting that she cared and was kind and did well. Dear lord.
Trust me, I'm dealing with depression myself. Everything Christine did to Adam made me wanted to die sooner on his behalf. She's a doe-eyed cruelty personified.
Annnnnnnnnd every friggin time someone mentioned how "kind" Christine was, I just wanna hurl this book across the room because....

Right, first off, let me just say that I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Cecelia Ahern writes well and has created some engaging characters and interesting scenarios. I do, however, have a couple of criticisms... but I need to hide them due to spoilers:
These two issues aside, however, I did enjoy this book. It has some very funny moments and some real emotional highs and lows along the way. I wouldn't let my two criticisms put you off reading it if this sounds like your kind of thing.

Almost forgot about this one. I've liked other books by Cecelia Ahern but this one didn't grab me at all. I found the whole idea behind the book to be too contrived (and this is not like me - I believe absolutely anything is possible in a novel) and as such I wasn't really swept away in the Romance of the story.
The main character and her love interest did not pull me in at all. On a few occasions I was frustrated by how she, Christine Rose, seemed to be too critical of her friends and not aware of her own failings. She chose to end her own short marriage and I almost felt as if her ex-husband was fortunate to have escaped her. Other parts of the story were not well-developed and took too much of my kindness to believe. Cecelia Ahern's gift for interesting characters popped through in the friends and family who supported Christine but not the woman herself. Sad to say, I wasn't very fond of her love interest either. Once I finished the book I cheerfully moved on to my next one without a thought for their happiness at all. This is not a good sign, usually I wonder what they'll do next and wish there would be a sequel. Not this time. Giving this book a 2-star rating only.

About a month back, I told a dear friend that the new Cecelia Ahern's book is out and it was called 'How To Fall In Love'. Well, he was amused by it. After reading the synopsis, he asked me,"Can you teach someone how to fall in love? And I'm sure the two main characters will fall in love with each other." Since I haven't read the book at the time, his guess is as good as mine.
So here goes.
How To Fall In Love is the story or rather the journey of two different people, Christine and Adam. Both have some issues that were stressing them but ironically that was what bringing them together.
Christine was searching for happiness. For quite some times now, she felt lost and empty. She was addicted to self help books or the 'how to' books. After the incident with Simon Conway, she make up her mind to left her husband of less than one year of marriage.
Adam was also searching for a way out of all the problems that has been stressing him. He lost the job that he loved due to his father's illness. And when the illness was confirmed as terminal, all his hope to get back the job was crushed, because he has to take his father's place in the family's company, as per his grandfather's will. On top of that, the girlfriend that he hoped to be by his side during this trial has turned to another man, his own best friend.
So, it was on that night when Christine was following the instructions of one of her 'how to' books that she met Adam, who was ready to jump into the river at Ha'penny Bridge. Since she cannot save Simon from taking his own life just the week before, she was determined not to let Adam be another one that she will feel guilty about. She just agreed to everything he said, as long as he didn't jump to the river. After it was over, Christine just realised that she had struck a deal with Adam to try to make him fall in love with his life so that he won't feel the urge to take his life again. And if she failed, she has to face the consequence : Adam will take his own life again. And this time, there would be no holding back. The deadline is on Adam's birthday, which is two weeks away.
It was during this period that both of them learned some essential lessons about life. There would always be some way to cope with the problems that we faced as long as we opened our heart and mind. There are options for us, not only the obvious one. Life has to be lived to be felt, not just by following the instructions in the books or by taking the easiest way out.
So my dearest friend, of course they fell in love with each other, it was a matter of course. But it's the 'how to' that really counts, their journey to find the answers to their quest which led them to the thing that all of us searched for, the contentness with our own life, with someone who loved us by our side, who will always be there for us.
'My problem was, I was unhappy with me.You made me like me again. You helped me live my life again. And whether I have you or not, it won鈥檛 mean I鈥檒l jump, or end my life. I need to be happy with me. All those things we did for Maria, I enjoyed them because I did them with you. I had fun with you. She may have been the reason, but you were the cause. While you were trying to make Maria fall in love with me, and make me fall in love with life, I fell in love with you.鈥� - Adam
