even though ethan was "adopted", in the end, i think we are supposed to believe that alistair was his biological father. when he comes over looking for Katie, and sees the chess set, anna asks if he plays. he says something like, no but i used to. and the way katie talks about alistair in general. i didn't think much of it during the first read, but i'm flipping through again and i see it.(less)
