There are many, many, many different ways to go about writing a book, and not all of them work for everyone. Spend some time learning how you write best, learning what your own personal writing process is, and don't get fixated on feeling like you have to do it how you think everyone else does, or how they tell you you should. As long as you're writing, that's all that matters.
