I taught this novel to high school juniors and seniors. The book was assigned as summer reading, and I paired it with Carso McCullars The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter.

I sure hope not. There is far too much swearing and sex in the book. I would certainly not recommend it to my high school students.

I happened to be in a restaurant the other day and three teachers were discussing this book and one mentioned that the author was her grandfather and that this book was in fact taught in classes in Colorado Springs.
