Please don't say that I'm the only one that thinks that Bree and Sel would make a cute couple? Nick is a little to nice and sweet. And Sel and Bree have more in common than she and Nick.

Page 487 and 488. ExcUSE ME-. Sel straight up calls Bree a 'sweetheart/darling' in Welsh (Cariad). And Bree thinks 'I don't ask him what "cariad" means, because, in my heart, I'm scared of his answer. Scared to be torn in two once more e.t.c' and 'Sel studies me, sees my twisting heart. Releases me with a quiet sigh. Unspoken words lie between us, but he lets them go until they dissipate in the air to wait for another day.' Does that mean that there's going to be a scene where they have that talk in the sequel? That's what I think anyway. Found another quote: 'I feel Sel's attention on my cheeks- and wonder when the sparks in his eyes had become a comforting heat.' pg 487
'His low voice carries all the intimacy of a caress, and his eyes are melted gold. I turn away, overwhelmed at the meaning in both.' pg 487
'I can't take my eyes off Sel.' pg 310
'He holds my gaze for a long moment "Not every second"
It's suddenly very hard to breathe. I look away. "I have a question."
Sel dips me without warning, sending my stomach jumps into my throat. "I'm listening," he purrs, then pulls me back up with ease. Once I'm upright, I glare at him, but he just smirks.' pg 409
'"May I assist with this quest?" Something harsh and tight in his voice makes me look up. "Or will Nicholas feel left out again?"' pg 410
'I look back at him then, and our gazes lock. I put all of my faith into my eyes, so that he can receive it, hold it, and remember it when I'm gone. I communicate it with a squeeze of my right hand to his left, and the press of my palm against his shoulder. I'm not scared of you. His golden eyes widen, and I think he understands. At least, I hope so.
Sel clears his throat and turns us again.' pg 411
'"You look stunning this evening, Briana.'" pg 411
'The material of my dress is so thin that I can feel the searing heat of his hand against my waist. I imagine his fingerprints leaving red imprints on my skin, and the image makes the fine hairs on the nape of my neck stand up. "Thank you," I say hoarsely.
"It's the truth," he says with a shrug, "You do. Even though you're distraught."
"I'm not distraught."
He leans so close that his lips brush against my ear when he whispers, "Liar."' pg411
'It hits me a second too late that the conversation has taken a turn towards the intimate and that it's all my fault.' pg 411
'Nick's eyes are glued to us, to Sel's body draped around mine- and the anger on his face burns bright as a firework, even halfway across the room.
I pull away, but Sel's fingers hold fast at my hip, keeping me close. He murmurs low, just for my ears, "Oh, the scene he would make if he could." pg 412
'His gaze hits me all over- sharp pricks across my face, down my throat, and over my bare arms.
Face hot, I flounder for words.' pg 340
'He takes another step forward, not enough to push me over but close enough that I can smell the lingering spice from the Oath on his skin and feel the warmth rolling off him. A memory of his heated fingers that first night at the Lodge flashes through my mind, and I wonder, just briefly, if the rest of him runs just as hot.' pg 341
'I back away as Sel bears down on me, the tips of his hair smoking.' pg ?
'I can't help but follow the path of banded muscles from his abdomen to his chest. Intricate black and gray tattoos encircle his arms, cover his shoulders, and connect a Celtic knot on his breastbone. I should look away, but instead I notice the droplets of water that fall from his thick black hair and the tiny transparent beads still clinging to his lashes.' pg 345
'He wipes a hand down his face. To my dismay, it does extremely distracting things to his stomach muscles. Things I don't want to notice.
I look away, a spike of guilt making my throat tight.' pg 345
'Whatever it is, it stretches across his ribs and spans his back and sends heat from my chest to my toes. When he pulls a black T-shirt out, I breath a silent sigh of relief. Clothes are good, I think. In general. On people. On Sel, especially. But then he shrugs the tee on, and it fits him like a second skin- a marginal improvement at best.' pg 346
'Everywhere our skin touches leaves a trail of sparks.' pg 348
'"Like Tor?" I reply without thinking.
Sel turns to me, raises a brow. "Among others."
A confusing mixture of jealousy and curiosity and want swirls in my stomach.' pg 356
'I don't remember standing up. I don't remember walking to him. I just know that my arm is around his middle. His entire body turns to stone as soon as I touch him, and his smoke-and-whiskey scent swirls around us, heavy and burning, but I don't let go. "I'm sorry," I whisper into his spine. He doesn't answer, but his muscles release the tiniest fraction. I wonder how long it's been since someone touched him. We stay like that until his breathing slows.
When he finally speaks, his voice is pitched low. "You called me a monster once."
My arms drop and I pull away, voice colored with despair, "I was angry. I- I didn't mean that."
He turns, and his red-rimmed eyes sweep across my features. After a moment, a shadow crosses his face, and his mouth folds into a small, rueful smile, like he wants to admonish me and call me a liar.' pg 363
'I kneel beside him and place a hand on his forearm, ignoring the small sizzle between our skin. He freezes without looking at me, muscles hard beneath my fingers. "Sel."
His voice drops into an register meant to scare and intimidate. "Don't." But I hear the restrained desperation in his voice. A pause. Then, quietly: "Please."' pg 364
'I see words of comfort and repair hovering uselessly on his lips. He wants to help me but he doesn't know how.' pg 368
'Sel's eyes find mine. Our eyes meet- for half a heartbeat, so quick- but Nick catches it. In that split second, he notices something new between me and his Kingsmage. Something I can't explain right now, not even to myself.' pg 371
There are so many more but I've spent literal hours on this so I just can't do any more. Anyway, enjoy Brelwyn quotes!

I definitely became anti-Nick and pro-Sel when I found out Nick punched Sel knowing that Sel couldn't punch back. I don't know why but that was such an important moment for me and I just started seeing Nick as your typical "nice guy" who in fact isn't remotely nice.
Sokeefe9
I don't know who else will know what I'm talking about, but almost the entire time I was reading this book, I couldn't help thinking about the Feyre-Tamlin-Rhysand love triangle. Like, seriously, Nick and Tamlin have way too much in common for me to like having Bree with him.
Myah
YES YES YES. Nick is starting to display lots of toxic traits and honestly, he annoys me to no end. Yeah, he's nice, but I feel like he's kind of a flat character and I feel like him and Bree don't have chemistry and their relationship felt sort of forced. I was routing for him in the beginning, but it was definitely and insta-love trop and they didn't have time to actually get to know each other and so it feels as if their relationship isn't based on anything real. Sel and Bree have a lot more in common and are able to connect more and have more chemistry than her and Nick ever had. If they do get together in book 2 (which I think they will--- and really hope they do) then their relationship will have already been based on a friendship and will feel more real. And Sel is better than Nick 100%.
Leah
Did Bree and Nick even have a real conversation in the entire book?

I am very late to this.
I would just like to give my unpopular and honest opinion, because I hate love triangles and all of you are clearly on the wrong side.
Sel is kind of the worst?
Like, what all of you are calling "chemistry" is him threatening her life, getting all up in her personal space, being straight up MEAN to her, and displaying SO many toxic traits.
Listen, is Nick perfect? No. But if Nick is toxic, then Selwyn is a straight-up psycho.
I think that Nick and Bree and really great together. Sure it was a little insta-love-y but whatever. Their relatioship is still strong and he just loves her, okay? He just cares about her and doesn't want her to get hurt and nothing he does is intentionally detremental to her. Unlike SOMEBODY we know, who clearly had a problem understanding the hula-hoop personal space bubble excersise that we did in the second grade.
And are you all really getting mad at Nick for being, and I quote, "too nice"? Is he supposed to be mean? I mean, god forbid, we have a healthy relatioinship where the too love interests are nice to eachother. That would be a catastrophe.
And about this whole "Nick being overprotective" thing you all have going on here, let me set someting straight: SELWYN LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL HER, MULTIPLE TIMES, SOMETIMES IN FRONT OF NICK. So is Nick really *that* crazy for warning Bree not to hang out around him? And it's not like Nick is trying to controll her, either. At no point does he treaten her, or call her stupid and other crude names, and just be generally toxic.
Even when Selwyn warms up to Bree, they still just don't feel right for eachother. And she forgives him for everything SO quickly, which almost feels straight up unfair to Nick. Half the time, Bree and Nick don't even get a chance to talk, for almost no reason at all. You can tell the whole point is so that Bree and Sel can get together later on. Which is just CRUEL at this point, because, as previously established, Nick loves her! And he's good to her and he makes sure that she's okay and he sweet and caring and you're calling HIM toxic?
Now, listen: You can think whatever you want. That's fine. You're entitled to your own opinion.
...It's just that your opinion is wrong.

BREE STARTS AND ENDS THE BOOK WITH SEL, YOU CAN'T TELL ME THEY AREN'T MEANT FOR EACH OTHER!!

Ugh!! I have been thinking about this since I finished the book last night. I loved the idea of her and Nick at the beginning, but closer to the end my feelings starting to change. My thoughts are: I think Bree and Nick make too much sense. Whereas, the relationship between Bree and Sel kept me on my toes. This is a triangle I hope gets more page time and details as more books come out!!!!!!!

yes! this is actually the reason that I rated the book 4 stars... I just couldn't understand how Bree even saids that she loves Nick, I don't see the connection between those two BUT Bree and Sel... mygod! I want that real bad. They are perfect for each other. Besides been cute, Nick is very a flat character.
Tiffani
Absolutely! I also half-hope that there is a scenario where Bree, Nick, and Sel find their way into a relationship together, like Sierra Simone's New Camelot series (minus the BDSM).

i am so late to this. I am definitely all for Bree and Sel. Nick is always off going to some place with his dad and kind of not ivesting like emotional connection with Bree. I don't think they even have jad a serious like bree and sel level deep conversation. Yeah, and Nick wouldn't even listen to Bree when she explains that Sel didn't do anything.
I really think that Bree and Sel are endgame and it's going to be a slow burn throughout the series! Also to those wanting it to be polyamorous relationship, that wouldn't work because in Sel's words in David's office, he says he's over that now and saw nick's jealousy and anger for him grow.
Plus Sel calling her cariad and the way he acts in their scenes. You can tell that the authot will have Bree and Sel as endgame.
I understand why Nick was protective over her because Sel tried to kill her but Sel was just doing his job. When she was close to getting killed, he always helped her. And Bree's arrival and the gates were indeed suspicious. I wanna she how Nick reacts to Bree in the 2nd book, like will he get mad or jealous of her, cause she's Arthur's line. Because it took like a moment to yield and bow to her when Sel was the first on who did. Amd Nick looked so Heartbroken.

OMG same same same!! Since the moment of the introduction that I adore Sel! But I'm kind of suspicion because I don't normally go for the good kind. I find Nick doll and boring as hell! In some point, I couldn't even remember his name!
All that scene when Sel and Bree find the true about their moms, I find that sooo heartbreaking and a really turning point for their story! Especially since it was always Sel helping Bree finding the true!

So I REALLY hate love triangles, but I feel like this one is already decided. In the book they are very clear that when it comes to romantic relationships Scions cannot be together because there won't be a clear next Scion and you could be in danger of losing another one of the lines. I feel like it kind of gives an easy out for her to be with Sel.
Iris
I think most of the people who read this book would think that(including me lol). I completely fell in love with Sel from the beginning even though he wasn't mentioned as much as Nick at first, and I feel like Nick is just a very flat character and kinda gives off bad vibes. Whenever Bree was with Nick I didn't really feel anything but when she was with Sel I could just feel the sparks between them. I really hope we get more Bree and Sel time in book 2.

Ok,so i'm late.I think the book kind of pulls toward sel and bree from the beginning. It's unfair to Nick because he is so nice to Bree all the time.Sel is your stereotypical bad boy leaning toward psycho.Sel and Bree have more chemistry. It seems to me that Bree should choose Nick though. He isn't toxic and abusive to her.He obviously cares about her more than anything.

Ummm…well I ship sel and Bree..they have wayyyy to many intimate moments for them to not get together and he calls her love so-
Logan Cahatol
Bree is definietly not meant for Nick. They just don't have anything in common. Sure, Nick showed her the legendborn world, but they just don't go together. Sel is so much better because they had such a range of emotions for each other. AND they went through the trauma about their parents together. You can't tell me that Bree will end up with Nick

ok, so I don't love them together, but I also don't love her with Nick, since they can't be together because of the Lancelot and Arthur thing. I can see her with Sel, but at the same time, I want her to just have a sweet protective friend. Like, if she's the king, she needs a loyal knight to stand by her, romantically or not. Idc if that's Alice, or Nick, or Sel...
(Also, leave the nice characters alone, what did he do to you lol.)

I’m extremely late, but I am 100% in love with the bree and sel ship. Perhaps an unpopular opinion but I really hope that throuple doesn’t happen. Something tells me that sel and nick part of the throuple…idk how it would work out. I will admit, the first time I read the first book, I partly shipped her with nick, but towards the end of the book especially, he just started to seem off and something about nick and bree at the end had me screaming “NO! Absolutely not, I don’t think it would work that well.
As for Sel and Bree, I do admit that in the beginning, sel is a jerk but thing is, Sel’s job was to go on his instincts to protect his charge and the Legendborn. I don’t blame the suspicion. Also re-reading it, it doesn’t feel as significant, especially as we see him truly helping bree, and opening up to her, and discovering new things about his own mother with her too.
I won’t explain anything further, as that would cause spoilers for the next book as well, but I will say: nick seems even more off in the second book at times. There are defo times where I see it could’ve been, but if anyone here has read KotLC, it feels slightly (not exactly though ofc) like a fitz and Keefe situation, cuz everyone loved fitz at first, but then he starts being off, and slowly most ppl shift their opinion.
In the end, I am deeply in love with the Bree and Sel ship, and I do not care for what anyone else thinks of that opinion, though I understand the reasoning behind the other opinions.
Thank you for reading my rant and I am sorry in advance if I said anything offensive or wrong: I didn’t mean to if I did.
