Read as much as you can get your hands on! Not just current books, but all sorts from as many different voices as you can manage. It'll help your own voice emerge. And secondly: just write. Anything! A journal, emails, poems, random thoughts. You don't have to tackle a full novel right away if it's overwhelming. Just start by playing with words, developing your ideas. When you then begin to write in earnest, you'll have a stronger idea of who you are as a writer and about what matters to you.
