I'm not a big fan of wizards, and the plot of this book seems a little...dull? Cheesy? But this book is so well known, and everyone recommends it to me. Even with my lack of interest in everything this book seems to be about, is there a chance I'd still like it?

Shruthi Honestly the Harry Potter series is not dull at all. As the series progress, we are introduced to darker themes and nuances. Even if you aren't a fan of the plot, the characters are developed wonderfully and there are plenty of surprises to keep you interested. Read it, you won't regret it.
Vieve I totally understand what you're saying - I feel like the first book may be a bit dull and unoriginal, but as the plot progresses through the series, it becomes very interesting. I'd recommend trying to get through a few more books in the series, and then decide whether or not to continue then!
Mary um this book is about rabbits
Liz If nothing else, the series has so many characters and the world is so full by the end of the series, that odds are there will be at least a handful of things you like about it when you're done. So yes, it's worth reading even if you're not into fantasy.
Beth Oxton Even if you don't like fantasy and wizard books there is still a good chance you will like Harry potter it has a very good storyline and if your really not into the whole fantasy craze you may still like the later books (5,6,7) they involve lots of adventuring and romance and other themes that you may enjoy.
Megan Flick The plot is not dull or cheesy once you get past the 3rd chapter in book 1 it is amazing and full of action and interesting-ness. my point is READ THE BOOKS. YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THE PLOT AND THE CHARACTERS
Feather King You should read them!!!! You will find out that you'll LOVE them a lot my brother is not in to wizard that much but when I introduced him to the Harry Potter books he could not put it down!!
Erin These books are so freaking amazing and you should definitely read them. All of these books are fantastic but my favorites are the last four. Trust me you will love these books and they're not dull or cheesy. The first three may seem a little slow because theres not as much action and they were meant for younger audience. You have to remember that these books were made so that kids could grow up with them. They get darker and more mature as the series goes on and by the last few books they're not childish at all. so give this series a try because its amazing and you'll love it.
Anagha I totally understand what you mean. But the books aren't just magic, wands, magic. Sure, it fit for little kids who can to read it. But there is more that just that. The characters are really well shown, so I think you should give it a try. Remember, don't judge the book by the cover.
I hope this helps! :)
Julia I was hooked after the first chapter. Read that first chapter in your bookstore, then, see if you walk out with it or not.

ems I, like you was put off by the look of the plot for ages before i read the books. My mum got me this book for Christmas one year and that was it, I was hooked. I suggest you give them a try and i doubt that you wont like it.
Anarmstrong I never heard anyone say they didn't like "Harry Potter" once they read the books, after the first chapter it's GREAT!
Avery Yes, there is so much going on. It has so many elements, it isn't just one thing. The people I've met who didn't like it always describe it as just one thing- and that;s why they hate it. But I always feel they are far from understanding it. Give it a try, and read it with an open mind.
