“I鈥檓 hitting the shower,鈥� Braeden said and slammed his locker shut.

He glanced around at me. 鈥淵ou wanna tell me why Rimmel called you before the game?鈥�
Braeden spun. 鈥淒id you go through my phone?鈥�
鈥淒id you lie to me about my girl?鈥� I countered.
He wiped a hand over his face. 鈥淔ucking A. Don鈥檛 put me in the middle, Rome.鈥�

“There was a knock on the bedroom door and Romeo stiffened. 鈥淲hat!鈥� he yelled.
鈥淚 hope no one鈥檚 naked, 鈥榗ause I鈥檓 coming in!鈥� Braeden hollered. A few seconds later, the door opened and he stepped inside. One of his hands covered his eyes.
鈥淚s it safe?鈥� he asked.
I giggled. 鈥淚s that a no for tacos?鈥�
Romeo shook his head and rolled his eyes. 鈥淲e鈥檙e dressed, man.鈥�
Braeden dropped the hand over his eyes and he zeroed in on me. It took everything in me not to shrink back from embarrassment. He came across the carpeting and held out my glasses. 鈥淗ere,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 figured you might need these.鈥�
Ah, that explained why everything still looked so blurry.
I slid them on and smiled as my sight adjusted back to normal. I noticed Braeden was soaking wet.
鈥淥h!鈥� I exclaimed. 鈥淵ou have to be freezing!鈥�
I rushed around the room, pulling out clothes and socks and tossing them at Braeden鈥檚 feet. 鈥淗ere! Put this stuff on.鈥�
鈥淪he鈥檚 giving away your clothes, man,鈥� Braeden said to Romeo.
鈥淐hicks.鈥� He sighed.
Braeden shook his head.
鈥淵ou鈥檙e dripping on the carpet!鈥� I reminded him.
He laughed and went in the bathroom to get dressed.
鈥淛ust leave your clothes with ours. I鈥檒l wash them for you,鈥� I yelled through the door.
He laughed. 鈥淟aundry service? Damn! I鈥檓 moving in.鈥�
Romeo shook his head.
I yawned. This entire day was catching up to me. Romeo frowned. 鈥淚鈥檒l make everyone leave鈥︹€� He began.
鈥淣o!鈥� I exclaimed. 鈥淭his is your victory party! Go enjoy it. I鈥檒l stay here.鈥�
He seemed torn on what to do. Braeden came out wearing Romeo鈥檚 clothes (they fit him pretty well) and ran his eyes over me in concern. 鈥淵ou okay?鈥�
I nodded. 鈥淒id you jump in the pool to get my glasses?鈥�
He nodded.
鈥淎ctually, he jumped in the pool right after I did. In case I needed help towing you out.鈥� Romeo corrected.
I glanced at Braeden for confirmation. He shrugged. 鈥淲hat kind of brother would I be if I let you drown?鈥�
Without thought, I walked over and wrapped my arms around him. He seemed a little taken aback by my display of affection, but after a minute, he hugged me back. 鈥淭hank you,鈥� I whispered.
鈥淎nytime, tutor girl.鈥� His voice was soft and his arms tightened around me just slightly. For all his witty humor, sarcastic one-liners, and jokes, Braeden was a really good guy. 鈥淲e need to teach you to swim.鈥� He observed.
I shuddered. 鈥淚 know how to swim.鈥�
鈥淲ell, you sank to the bottom like an anchor,鈥� he grumbled.”

“She sighed in appreciation and wrapped her hands around the cup. She took a sip and glanced at Braeden. 鈥淗ow did you know I like mocha?鈥�
鈥淏ecause you鈥檙e a girl.鈥�
鈥淥h,鈥� she said and went back to her coffee.”

“My head cleared the water, and a strong arm wrapped around my middle as my lungs automatically sucked in air. I started coughing immediately, water sputtering out of my mouth.
I blinked against my blurred vision as commotion erupted around me.
鈥淗elp me, man,鈥� a voice said. It was desperate and raw.
Romeo.
鈥淚 got her,鈥� said another familiar voice, Braeden.
He slid his arms beneath my arms and towed me up out of the water. My legs buckled, and instead of letting me fall, he scooped me up and held me against him.
I dropped my head against his shoulder and wrinkled my nose. He didn鈥檛 feel right.
The sound of splashing water drifted over, and I flinched against the sound.
鈥淚 got her,鈥� Romeo said, and I was shifted against a chest I knew very well.
I was home.
I whimpered because he felt so good, and his arms tightened around me.
鈥淒on鈥檛 let anyone in the house,鈥� Romeo said, and I heard Braeden agree.”

“As if I conjured him into being, Braeden materialized nearby and shouted, 鈥淩ome! Where you been hiding?鈥�
The crowd parted slightly to make room for Romeo鈥檚 best friend, and he grinned when he saw me standing there. 鈥淎h,鈥� he said, 鈥渢utor girl is back.鈥�
I sighed dramatically. Was he ever going to stop calling me that?
Braeden pushed into the center of the small crowd and put his arm around me, and Romeo let go of my hand as Braden tugged me into his side. 鈥淗e鈥檚 been unbearable while you were gone,鈥� he said. I was aware of everyone watching the easy affection he showed me. It made me slightly uncomfortable, even if I did enjoy it.
鈥淚 doubt it,鈥� I said, poking him in the ribs. 鈥淵ou were probably just annoying.鈥�
People around us laughed, and Braeden hooted. 鈥淩ome, I need to borrow your girl. She knows all about books and I can鈥檛 seem to find the one I need.鈥�
He shoved his wrinkled paper beneath my nose and steered me out of the crowd so I would help him.
I found the book in like three seconds and handed it to him with an are you for real? look on my face.
鈥淟ooked like it was getting a little crowded over there,鈥� he said, taking the book. His eyes held a knowing look.
He鈥檇 done that on purpose. He knew almost as well as Romeo how uncomfortable I could get.
鈥淭hanks,鈥� I said, and I meant it.
鈥淎nytime, tutor girl.鈥�
鈥淚 do have a name, you know?鈥� I said.
鈥淚 know.鈥� He grinned. It was the only answer I got. He definitely didn鈥檛 say he was going to start using it.

“Braeden sighed and looped his arm across my shoulders again and steered me toward a stack of books. 鈥淪o innocent,鈥� he mused. 鈥淭utor girl, as your man鈥檚 best friend and your self-appointed big brother, I feel like it鈥檚 time I teach you about the real world.鈥�
鈥淵ou鈥檙e my self-appointed big brother?鈥� I asked, looking up at him.
He nodded like it was obvious. 鈥淵ou and Rome鈥� you鈥檙e an exception to the rule. You two are the real deal, but most guys, guys like me, aren鈥檛 looking to settle down. They like鈥斺€�
鈥淭o have fun?鈥� I finished for him, slightly amused.

He lifted an eyebrow.

“Romeo appeared in front of us, crossed his arms over his wide chest, and stared at me and Braeden. Braeden didn鈥檛 seem to mind the death glare he was receiving. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e looking awful cozy over here with my girl.鈥�
鈥淚 was just schooling our girl here on the ways of the world,鈥� Braeden replied smoothly.
鈥�Our girl?鈥� Romeo repeated.

I interrupted their macho talk with some talk of my own. 鈥淗e was asking about Missy.鈥�
Romeo grinned.
Braeden dropped his arm from around me and gave me a look of betrayal. 鈥淲hat happened to brother-sister confidentiality?鈥�
I laughed.
鈥淒ude, there鈥檚 a hot girl in line over there,鈥� Romeo said, motioning with his chin. 鈥淕o get in line behind her.鈥�
Braeden turned and a slow smile spread across his stubbled jaw. 鈥淒ay-um,鈥� he said. 鈥淕ood looking out, Rome.鈥� He held up his fist and Romeo pounded his against it.
