Jodi Picoult
“The jury is supposed to be twelve peers, but technically that would mean every single person on the jury should have Asperger's syndrome, because then they'd really understand me.”
Jodi Picoult, House Rules

William Landay
“A jury verdict is just a guess - a well-intentioned guess, generally, but you simply cannot tell fact from fiction by taking a vote.”
William Landay, Defending Jacob

Howard Zinn
“A jury is always a more orthodox body than any defendant brought before it; for blacks it is usually a whiter group, for poor people, a more prosperous group...

Another lesson about the justice system: the way the judge charges the jury inevitably pushes them one way or the other, limits their independent judgment.”
Howard Zinn, You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train: A Personal History of Our Times

Robert Graves
“I happened to notice that among the men who had willingly presented themselves for jury-service was one whom I knew to be the father of seven children. Under a law of Augustus's he was exempt for the rest of his life; yet he had not pleaded for exemption or mentioned the size of his family. I told the magistrate: "Strike this man's name off. He's a father of seven." He protested: "But, Cæsar, he has made no attempt to excuse himself." "Exactly," I said, "he wants to be a juryman. Strike him off." I meant, of course, that the fellow was concealing his immunity from what every honest man considered a very thankless and disagreeable duty and that he therefore was almost certain to have crooked intentions. Crooked jurymen could pick up a lot of money by bribes, for it was a commonplace that one interested juryman could sway the opinions of a whole bunch of uninterested ones; and the majority verdict decided a case.”
Robert Graves, Claudius the God and His Wife Messalina

“This is the week,
the primetime hearings on insurrection
and sedition,
our last chance to make known
and believed
the ugly truth of our last president,
the nefarious doings of his cohorts,
the insanity we all witnessed and went through,
the coup we just barely avoided.

It's now or never.

The jury is out,
the jury of public opinion.

The jury is us.”
Shellen Lubin

Heru Ofori-Atta
“Having vision is much more than just being visual.”
Heru Ofori-Atta, The Clairvoyant

“As I look back on it, I understand that the jury was sequestered and it was a long trial, but they were a rather high-maintenance bunch. There seemed to be a lot of thought and discussion about what entertainment they wanted, which movies they wanted to watch, and which restaurants they wanted to go to. Yet, as we would learn later, when it came time to deliberate, they never asked a single question about the evidence.”
Jeff Ashton, Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony

John Grisham
“Since most law-abiding citizens had no contact with the parole system, it was not a priority with the state legislatures. And since most of the state's prisoners were either poor or black, and unable to use the system to their advantage, it was easy to hit them with harsh sentences and keep them locked up. But for an inmate with a few connections and some cash, the parole system was a marvelous labyrinth of contradictory laws that allowed the Parole Board to pass out favors.”
John Grisham, The Last Juror

Shannon L. Alder
“We don’t yet have a body of scientific knowledge about evil to be called a facet of psychology. Therefore, religious reasoning for actions will always be at the discretion of the psychologist, thus making them the judge and jury over what is delusion and what is a spiritual experience that has to be sedated.”
Shannon L. Alder

Katherine McIntyre
“The jury’s still out on your level of intellect. After all, you signed up with Evil Incorporated in the first place.”
Katherine McIntyre, Scrying for Summer

Reginald Rose
“What a terrible thing for a man to believe! Since when is dishonesty a group characteristic? You have no monopoly on the truth.”
Reginald Rose, Twelve Angry Men

“Women are like a living, breathing casino
Like a judge and jury
They sense everything
They sense what you try to hide
They sense your weaknesses
They sense your power levels
One must be patient
One must listen
Watch
And wait
Before one strikes”
Robert Black

“After George was dismissed, the jury had two questions of its own for Judge Perry. They wanted to know which twelve of the fifteen jurors would deliberate the case and which three were alternates. Would it be the first twelve and the alternates were the last three, or would the order be mixed up? The other question was, Did the alternates get to go home when the jury deliberated? Day Three of the trial and they were already talking about wanting to go home—not a good sign.”
Jeff Ashton

Kenneth Eade
“Emotions are reserved for juries and, in that case, a good lawyer can really lay them on when the time is right, better than the best Academy Award winning actor”
Kenneth Eade, Predatory Kill

Felix Wantang
“Rejecting Jesus Christ is like a fugitive who spends all day running but has nowhere to hide; you will face him after death. He is the only judge and jury.”
Felix Wantang, FACE TO FACE MEETINGS WITH JESUS CHRIST Revised Edition: Biblical Mysteries revealed in his own words like never before in human history.

Harper Lee
“But in the absence of eye-witness there's always a doubt, sometimes only the shadow of a doubt. The law says 'reasonable doubt', but I think a defendant's entitled to the shadow of doubt. There's always the possibility, no matter how improbable, that he's innocent.”
Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird

Kenneth Eade
“The jury system was somewhat of an anomaly, like everything else in the law.”
Kenneth G. Eade, HOA Wire

Kenneth Eade
“It was ridiculous to think that twelve people could “turn off all their biases and prejudices and make a logical decision based on the evidence they were allowed to hear in the trial.”
Kenneth G. Eade, HOA Wire

Kenneth Eade
“Sometimes you had a better shot with a jury, that body of ones “peers who make decisions with their emotional brains; especially if your client was guilty.”
Kenneth G. Eade, HOA Wire

Kenneth Eade
“Even though the Judge would charge the jury that they should listen to all the evidence before they made up their minds, the chances were likely that 100% of them will have already decided if William was guilty or not before the trial was over.”
Kenneth Eade, Unreasonable Force

Kenneth Eade
“You never know with juries. I’d take a judge every time, unless of course I was guilty.”
Kenneth Eade, Unreasonable Force

Susan Glaspell
“No, Peters, it's all perfectly clear except a reason for doing it. But you know juries when it comes to women.”
Susan Glaspell, A Jury of Her Peers

“My workday begins at eight-thirty a.m.
Turn on computer, get coffee, log on to JEMS.
Read my emails, and respond to some.
Turn on the radio, and begin to hum
…to the Captain on Ocean 89
Any type of music soothes this my mind.
By 9am the Magistrates begin to come
Wor. Wolffe, Warner, Tokunbo, Chin and Anderson
…ready to give fairness, decisions, reasons and some.
I then go thru my spreadsheet of outstanding Appeals
My job to prepare them is quite a big deal.
Appeals are then sent to Chief Justice Kawaley.
Each case is met with consideration and commentary.
By 10am I attend to Plea Court
New cases range from speeders, DUI’s and all sorts
Defendants are called by name, charges read out and defined
“Not guilty or “guilty”…”just give me my fine”
…then 10 minutes later Bernews reports cases online.
Never 2 days the same, in the lower Courts.
I don’t complain, I enjoy it, I’m there to support.
16 years in total in this line of work
I love my job as a Magistrates Court Clerk!! ❤️”

“Don't presume to be innocent when all of society is guilty.”
Anthony T. Hincks

M.M. Crumley
“This is why I hate you." "That can't be true," Doc said sadly. "What about the friendship bracelet you gave me?" Jury's eyelid twitched. "It's a protection bracelet." "No, that can't be right," Doc argued. "Look." He held his wrist out next to Jury's. "They match." Red was creeping up Jury's cheeks now. "They are protection bracelets," he insisted again. "And if you're not careful, I'll take it away.”
M.M. Crumley, Hidden

“It takes seriousness to get serious things done.”
Martin Uzochukwu Ugwu

Ehsan Sehgal
“On which law now, the illegitimate three-member jury agrees to rethink and possibly extend the election date, ignoring the essence of the constitution since it contradicts what they had earlier declined: It proves Suo Motu was purely based on bad faith to support one party and one leader. Sure, such an exemption is judicial dishonesty, even a judicial crime.”
Ehsan Sehgal

Percival Everett
“He's white and I'm black and I was fightin' him and two-hundred white witnesses can't convince the twelve I'll never see that I didn't kill him.”
