“Arabella squinted back. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e almost nine months pregnant. Shouldn鈥檛 you be soft, and happy, and glowing? When are we gonna see some glow?鈥

Arabella clearly had a death wish.

Nevada finished her pickle spear and licked honey off her fingertips. 鈥淚鈥檓 the size of a house, the kid inside me keeps kicking me in the kidneys, I have to pee every five minutes, my legs cramp, and I can鈥檛 get out of bed by myself. I have to roll to the side like a walrus, which is harder right now since my husband is somewhere in the Russian Empire and he isn鈥檛 there to steady me. And how was your day of being young, beautiful, skinny, and carefree? Why aren鈥檛 you glowing?”
Ilona Andrews, Emerald Blaze

"No, it was Leonardo."

Mira clutched a hand to her breast. Shock radiated onto her face. "Leonardo? Leonardo beat Mavis?"

"Beat her? No, he banged her. You know, knocked her up." Confused, Eve shook her head, then began to laugh as the light dawned. "Sperm meets egg," she managed as she had her first genuine laugh of the day. "She's pregnant.”

“Tomoya: Nagisa! (gasps)
Nagisa!
Nagisa: (weakly) Tomoya鈥
Tomoya: She鈥檚 here, Nagisa. She鈥檚-she's right here! You can hear her, right?
That鈥檚 our baby, that鈥檚 our baby crying.
Nagisa: (weakly) Y-yeah鈥
Tomoya: Here, look! I got to hold her before anyone else, see?
Nagisa: Oh鈥he turned out so cute鈥
Tomoya: This is our little baby, Nagisa. It鈥檚 our little Ushio.
Nagisa: Hey there, Shio鈥
Tomoya: It鈥檚 a girl, she鈥檚 as healthy as can be!
Nagisa: Yeah鈥 I鈥檓 so glad I could have her here with you, Tomoya鈥 I鈥檓 sorry I had to make Shio work so hard for it, but at least we were all together鈥
Tomoya: You did a great job. I mean it.
Nagisa: (Sighs) Hey鈥鈥檓 sorry, but I鈥檓 starting to feel a little tired. Could you let me rest? Just for a second鈥?
Tomoya: Come on, let鈥檚 talk just-just a little longer, okay? You don鈥檛 have to say anything, just listen. Come on, you have to look at our baby. She kinda looks like a cute
little monkey, doesn鈥檛 she? See? She鈥檚 so tiny. Here, I鈥檓 going to call her name, okay? Ushio. Hey, it鈥檚 daddy, Ushio. And this is mommy, see?
Look at her, see?
(Sniffles and laughs softly)
She鈥檚 ignoring me. Guess, she doesn鈥檛 understand yet. I鈥檒l bet she鈥檒l grow up before we know it. She鈥檒l be starting school. We鈥檒l have to go clothes shopping with her. We鈥檒l have open house and school festivals to go to. We鈥檒l do it all as a family, even though I used to make fun of that stuff growing up. (chuckles)
Nagisa? (gasps)
Nagisa. Here, it鈥檚 Ushio鈥檚 cheek. Come on. Hey鈥
(Nagisa Breathes heavily)
Tomoya: Nagisa. You told me you鈥檇 always be by my side. You said, we鈥檇 always be together. You promised me that, remember? Over and over again. We both promised. That was my only dream. Nothing good ever happened to me until I met you. I thought I had a crappy life but even someone useless like me finally found something to live for.
Right, Nagisa? Right?
狈补驳颈蝉补鈥
NAGISA!!!

Tomoya thinks of flashback when they first met:
Nagisa's voice echoing in his head: Do you like this school? I have to say that I love it very very much! But soon, everything changes. Well, at least it does eventually. Fun things, happy things, they鈥檒l all eventually change someday, you know. But, do you think you can still love this place anyway?

(Instead of meeting her Tomoya turns the other direction and walks away)
We never should have met. We should have kept going down our separate paths. We
never would have gone out. We never would have gotten married and Ushio never would have been born. Then, at least I wouldn鈥檛 have to go through so much suffering.
(sniffle)
(sighs)
We never should have met.”

“The French don鈥檛 valorize a pregnant woman鈥檚 anxiety. Instead, in the word cloud of French pregnancy, terms like serenity, balance, and Zen keep popping up. Mothers-to-be are supposed to signal their competence by showing how calm they are and by making it clear that they still experience pleasure. This small shift in emphasis makes a big difference.”

Sarah J. Maas
“Cassian grinned and said to Azriel, 'We're going to be uncles.'

Feyre groaned. 'Mother help this child.'

Azriel's own grin bloomed at that, but Feyre's gaze slid to Nesta.

Nesta said quietly to her sister, 'Congratulations.'

For she'd said nothing, had only been able to stand and watch them all, their joy and closeness, as if she were looking in through a window.

But Feyre offered her a tentative smile. 'Thank you. You'll be an aunt, you know.'

'Gods help this child indeed,' Cassian muttered, and Nesta glared at him.”

Steven Magee
“I do not have fond memories of my ex after the first couple of years. It was all downhill once she was pregnant.”

Elizabeth Bard
“For iron and pep, I wanted to make a cold lentil salad with a zingy orange-ginger vinaigrette, handfuls of chopped herbs, and slices of white peach. (The purple-green Puy lentils, more common than the orange ones in France, just seemed too dark for a summer salad.) After unpacking half the kitchen while standing, against my better judgement, on a kitchen chair, I ended up not with orange lentils, but with a bag of yellow split peas. That would have to do.
The split peas had been hiding up there for a while--- I'm pretty sure I bought them after a trip to Puglia, where we were served warm split-pea puree drizzled with wonderful glass-green olive oil and a grind of fresh pepper. Still hankering after a cold salad, I tried cooking the dried peas al dente, as I would the lentils, but a half hour later, where the lentils would have been perfect, the split peas were a chalky, starchy mess. I decided to boil on past defeat and transform my salad into the silky puree I'd eaten with such gusto in Italy.
When the peas were sweet and tender and the liquid almost absorbed, I got out the power tools. I'm deeply attached to my hand blender--- the dainty equivalent of a serial killer's obsession with chain saws. The orange-ginger vinaigrette was already made, so I dumped it in. The recipe's necessary dose of olive oil would have some lively company.
The result was a warm, golden puree with just enough citrus to deviate from the classic. I toasted some pain Poil芒ne, slathered the bread with the puree, and chopped some dill. My tartines were still lacking a bit of sunshine, so I placed a slice of white peach on top.”

“Tell him鈥 she said, 鈥榯hat I鈥檓 pregnant and it鈥檚 his fault so that means he has to do what I want.”

“That we did not have several unplanned pregnancies a year was a testament more to God's grace than effective family planning.”
