“What you have learned from experience is worth much more than gold. If you have a house it may burn down. Any kind of possession can be lost, but your experience is yours forever. Keep it and find a way to use it.”
Somaly Mam, The Road of Lost Innocence: The True Story of a Cambodian Heroine

Kurt Tucholsky
“Der Deutsche fährt nicht wie andere Menschen. Er fährt, um recht zu haben.”
Kurt Tucholsky, Deutschland, Deutschland über alles

“There is a slave trade still in this country—yes, the real and horrific sex and human trafficking trade run by organised criminal gangs, which is appalling and must be stopped. But there's the hidden slavery too of children exploited and used within their own families, within organised and ritual abuse.”
Carolyn Spring, Living with the Reality of Dissociative Identity Disorder: Campaigning Voices

“Part of the problem was that I couldn't seem to get past the fact that I hadn't tried to escape from Kas. Even in France, when he'd left me on my own for several days, I'd carried on working [as a prostitute] and doing all the things he'd told me to d. And although I knew that it was because of the fear he'd so carefully and deliberately instilled in me, I still felt as though I'd somehow colluded in what had happened to me - despite knowing, deep down, that nothing could have been further from the truth.”
Sophie Hayes, Trafficked: The Terrifying True Story of a British Girl Forced into the Sex Trade

“Slowly, I'm beginning to realise that what happened to me wasn't my fault, that I was taken advantage of by a group of vile, twisted men.”
Girl A, Girl A: My Story

Merlyn Gabriel Miller
“Prostitution has the same relationship to trafficking as sex has to rape. One is voluntary, the other is not”
Merlyn Gabriel Miller, Sex, Death, Drugs & Madness

“All I wanted to do was hide away from the world, but I still had a role to play. I had to be 'Girl A' - the key witness in the trial that finally saw my abusers locked up. Girl A - the girl in the newspaper stories who had been through the most hideous experience imaginable. When I read those stories, I felt like I was reading about somebody else, another girl who was subjected to the depths of human depravity. But it wasn't. It was about me. I am Girl A.”
Girl A, Girl A: My Story

Nicholas D. Kristof
“Even though we are peripheral to the slavery, our action is necessary to overcome a horrific evil.”
Nicholas D. Kristof, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide

“It was in Cleveland that Magic Slim became the most successful pornographic film producer in America. His training center was a key link in a human trafficking supply chain stretching from the former Soviet Republics in Eastern Europe to the United States. Trafficking accounts for an estimated $32 billion in annual trade with sex slavery and pornographic film production accounting for the greatest percentage.
The girls arrived at Slim’s building young and naive, they left older and wiser. This was a classic value chain with each link making a contribution.  Slim’s trainers were the best, and it showed in the final product. Each class of girls was judged on the merits. The fast learners went on to advanced training. They learned proper etiquette, social skills and party games. They learned how to dress, apply makeup and discuss world events.
Best in-class were advertised in international style magazines with code words. These codes were known only to select clients and certain intermediaries approved by Slim. This elaborate distribution system was part of Slim’s business model, his clients paid an annual subscription fee for the on-line dictionary. The code words and descriptions were revised monthly.
An interested client would pay an access fee for further information that included a set of professional  photographs, a video and voice recordings of the model addressing the client by name.  Should the client accept, a detailed travel itinerary was submitted calling for first class travel and accommodation.  Slim required a letter of understanding spelling out terms and conditions and a 50% deposit. He didn’t like contracts, his word was his bond, everyone along the chain knew that.
Slim's business was booming.”

Dominique DuBois Gilliard
“The church must reckon with the reality that ever since black people were stolen from Africa and trafficked to this land, they have been dehumanized, abused, criminalized, incarcerated, exploited for profit, and governed in distinctively sinister ways. This oppression has been personal, institutional, systemic, and legislative. It has been authorized and sanctioned by our local, state, and federal government. As the church, do we have the wherewithal to confront the austere reality that our national economy has been subsidized by a criminal justice system that is, and has been, predicated on the exploitation of cheap labor extracted from poor, racially profiled people of color?”
Dominique DuBois Gilliard, Rethinking Incarceration: Advocating for Justice That Restores

“The menace of human trafficking continues to endure only because, there are some heartless men who are taking advantage of the lives and bodies the gullible victims get trapped into.”
Sunday Adelaja

Chuck Palahniuk
“From his research he knew that child traffickers walk amongst us. They stand beside us at the bank. They sit next to us in restaurants. Foster had scarcely had to scratch the surface of the web before such predators had glommed onto him, sending their corruption and trying to rope him into their sickening world.”
Chuck Palahniuk, The Invention of Sound

Catherine Brusk
“She listened to the silence. Her first thought was relief. He's gone. Her second thought was utter devastation. He didn't kill me.”
Catherine Brusk, What Love Washed Up

Ronie Kendig
“I take exception to that. He lost you the night we met.”
