This book has its share of sadness and had me reaching for a tissue, but like all good romance it had A HAPPY ending. And seriously, the dialogue is wicked good. Sharp, smart and witty. What else would you expect when the hero is an MIT graduate student and the heroine is an English major. Loved it, adding to my re read list.

Of the three Shannon Hale books I've read recently, this one I liked the least. If I were 12, it would have been my favorite! In a literary sense, it is probably 'better' than The Goose Girl and Enna Burning, but it was a little too young for my liking. My girls will love this when they get older!...more
I read this for our RS Book Club, then I didn't get a chance to go. It was a cute enough story, just too simple and the writing a little amateur. I found myself disliking the main character so much because part of his conflict in the book was him thinking how silly and wasteful The Nutcracker Ballet was, it drove me crazy! Yes, there were plenty of 'are you SERIOUS???' moments, but really, it's the Twilight series! It's crazy anyway, and I enjoyed it. I've read a lot of Meyer's character explanations on her website and I think that helped. They are not meant to be role models, or even realistic characters. It's all fantasy and over-the-top. With that in mind, I liked it!...more
